When we arrived at Argos, we really weren't sure what to expect but our heads were quickly turned by the sheer beauty of this amazing boutique hotel. Okan, who greeted us at reception quickly helped us get into our room for a brief cleanup and then suggested a local spot for a quick but very good lunch. Our plans called for a lot of sightseeing in the afternoon and we hit the ground running. We had until five o’clock before we were expected back at Argos for “the tour”. We joined Okan and another hotel guest for a tour of the caves, the wine cellar and a peek at their amazing suites that include private pools. The tour was fun and informative, the architecture stunning, once again the beauty of the hotel really amazed us.

Both nights we ate at the hotel restaurant and were so pleased we did. We dined alfresco enjoying traditional but updated dishes that were excellent. Local wines from Cappadocia complemented the dishes perfectly. After dinner we took the cave route back to our room, a short 150 meter walk to a grotto just below the entrance to our room.

Staying at this property was dreamlike, the small touches like the flower planters and the lighting, and every little detail was executed with such an excellent design concept that you relax just observing all these things. The entire staff supported this concept of relaxation and complete contentment. To a person they were fantastic.

To come to Cappadocia and not stay at the Argos would be a huge mistake! We’ll be going back as soon as possible and staying longer.

Room Tip: We visited Uchisar during Ramadan so the early wake-up call goes with the territory.

The hotel is located almost in the top of a mountain. You have a marvelous view of Cappadocia. In the morning you can see al the balloons rising during sunrise. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant with the most beautiful view. Food is great and service perfect. In the rooms the only problem is the absence of a support for your luggage.
No pool or fitness center.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view of the red valley

The Argos is an incredible hotel with incredible views and a heart for restoration. The rooms were formerly caves and their restoration is beautiful. You must go on the informative, nightly tour of the hotel which will take you through a long tunnel deep into their wine cellar and provide you with the history and vision for future restoration and development. Get up early and witness 40-50 balloons rising closing by, or better yet, go on a ride yourself. Service is excellent, buffet breakfast is more than ample. We were there with a fixed price dinner included in our package and I would give it a B-, however, you can't beat the vistas from the outdoor restaurant. Be aware that the hotel is adjacent to a mosque and it has calls to prayer beginning around 4:30 a.m. I slept through but it can be an issue for some. Overall, this is an incredibly lovely place to stay while in Cappadocia, centrally located in the heart of this magical place.

Room Tip: If you can afford the room with it's own swimming pool get it. Otherwise there are no other poo...

I now can see why my partner Jacqui was so keen to get me to Cappadocia 20 years after she first came here. Gwion Gwion stick figures in the Kimberley create a sense of awe but are hard to identify with. Argos' renovations amidst the living ruins of Cappodocia have an historic immediacy that grabs you by the throat. The staff are excellent, the rooms totally in keeping with the hotel's context and the wines and food an absolute delight. The lack of air conditioning is a big plus after the wheezing units of Istanbul. Attention to detail sets this hotel and its staff in a league of their own!

Traveled as a family (couple and 12 year old) and were upgraded to a suite on arrival. Mixed reaction to that.. loved the upgrade, but it wasnt the cave room that we had wanted to experience..so we went and looked at a cave room too.. and decided to stick with the upgrade.. because honestly, though the 'cave' experience was great.. with an active 12 year old and our own preferences for looking out of windows.. the room felt better.

The hotel is gorgeous, perched right on top of Uchisar, next to the castle. The view is amazing, breakfast out on the terrace is a treat for the eyes (menu isnt very extensive though) and the best is when you see balloons sail over the horizon straight at you, like golden floating mushrooms, with tourists slung underneath, their Nikons opening like black flowers.

The location is on top of the mountain, with other hotels and shops and small eating joints about 5minutes walk on either side. There are a couple of small convenience type stores right opposite so chips, water and cold drinks can be purchased quickly when needed, especially when heading out on excursions and tours.

The hotel staff is attentive, and well informed and can quickly hook you up with various tours and activities in the area - balloon tours ( we had already booked Royal Balloon tours online), guides, group and private tours etc. There is also a monastery on the premises and their own wine cellar. The hotel actually has a tour of the premises-which we kept missing because it was at a time (6pm i think) when we were never around.

The bar is great, restaurant is alright - think Asians will struggle with the menu since everything was European (expected) and tasted bland (unexpected) - actually thought we would have more Turkish choices.

Tip - make a booking with the hotel for a pickup from Kayseri airport - we didnt, missed a shuttle when we were making enquiries, finally ended up taking a taxi - and its a long, expensive drive.. the silver lining is that its a also a gorgeous drive through rolling plains and at the end, through the jagged little mountains that the region is famous for.

Argos is a beautiful hotel. However, there are several other things. First, Argos is immediately adjacent to a mosque which announces calls to prayer over a loudspeaker 5 times a day including 4:30 AM and 10:30 PM while we were visiting. It is quite loud and if in a non-air conditioned room blasts you. Our room was a “cave room” which is supposed to be naturally cooled; it was 80 (we have a thermomter on our travel clock). As well the staff is not proficient in English so communications is sometimes difficult. Breakfast is quite good and the wait staff attentive. Dinner was overpriced, only acceptable quality, great wine list, and the wait staff near incompetent. One had to point at the menu to order. Wine service was poor – they did not know how to pour properly. The food was bland and lacked any excitement. We went on the recommended tour lead by an excellent English speaking woman who never identified herself by name or position and literally “ran” through the tour of the underground spaces (most of which are wine storage). She seemed very impressed with the owner (whoever he is) and was constantly saying “the owner will be doing …” All in all not a great experience. Argos builds itself up as exceptional, charges exceptional prices and has laudatory ratings from several travel “authorities” but does not deliver.

Room Tip: Get an air conditioned room

If one could truly fall in love with a location, a hotel and a way of life, this would be it. Argos is a gem of a hotel, it is set amongst the cobble stones of Ucisar nestled between real homes. The hotel is a restoration project which started 16 years ago and is still going on. The rooms are sympathetic to the culture, heritage and the mood of this exquisite landscape.
Argos is special as it allows it guest to feel part of the village rather than just a privileged luxury hotel guest.
The staff are superb, friendly and helpful... We were greeted by the lovely Merve the hotel guest relations manager and were looked after by her for the entire week - she new all guests by name and made sure to give us the best advice at all times.
It is rare to stay somewhere for a week and to be overwhelmed by its beauty every morning when walking onto the courtyard.

As added bonus, Argos, has an excellent wine cellar, a dream for wine lovers, the restaurant is also nice with breath taking views of pigeon valley.
Argos is a secretive girl with a shady past, and over the years she has slowly revealed her glories and conquests to the owner, where they had found: tunnels, monastery and caves.... It seems to me that there is a lot more to her past but she is sharing it a little at a time.
The owner is now in the process of restoring one of the volcano chimney into a museum and I can not wait to go back and see it.

Go to cappadocia and stay here... Capadocia will change you, amaze you and make you see a world beyond amazement, Argos will give you the warm hug and love that you need after a long day of exploration.

Room Tip: See if you can star away from the mosques a little! The call to the prayers at 4:30 in the morning...
