Argos in Cappadocia

My husband and I had the pleasure of spending three nights at Argos in Cappadocia in October. This hotel is unforgettable; every detail has been meticulously planned and executed to perfection. And of course, the setting itself is utterly unique and magical. The hotel has gone to admirable lengths to ensure that it seamlessly co-exists with the Cappadocian landscape, and as a result, the entire space is infused with a great sense of serenity. The location in Uchisar is perfect for those seeking a peaceful respite from the the crowds, and I would highly recommend it for couples. We stayed in two different rooms during our stay: a deluxe and a suite (interestingly, we both preferred the deluxe as it was more intimate and enjoyed an incredible view of the valley). We also had virtually all our meals at the hotel's main restaurant (Seki), which was amazing both in terms of food and service (and setting). During our stay, the manager also gave us wonderful tours of the property -- these are not to be missed. The sprawling gardens, underground tunnels, and wine caves gave us great insight into the history of this unique property. My husband and I truly did not want to leave at the end of our stay... if and when we return to the region, we will not stay anywhere but Argos!

My husband and I spent three nights at the Argos Hotel last week, and we cannot stop thinking about how magical and wonderful our time there was. The staff was so warm and welcoming and really cared about making sure that we were happy and well taken care of. The photos of the property on the website don't even begin to do justice to the spectacular setting and views. Suffice it to say that you have to see it to believe it. Our suite of rooms was just beautiful; large, comfortable, bright and airy, and designed to echo the surrounding architecture of this special, historic part of Turkey. The hotel is an ongoing project, as more of the surrounding historic ruins of the town of Uchisar are being beautifully renovated and incorporated into facilities of the hotel. The Argos is more than a hotel; it is a continuing work in progress of an architect and designer with enormous, talent, vision and taste. We loved the restaurant and particularly looked forward to the bountiful breakfast buffet every morning, with super fresh cheeses, fruit, bread, yoghurt and eggs and honey which are all produced within walking distance, much of it from the hotel's own gardens. We loved taking a tour of the hotel's wine cellars which go deep under ground and contain thousands of bottles of the delicious local wine. Staying at this hotel was a very special and memorable experience.

The location and views at this hotel are so fabulous, we actually cancelled a day of touring and we just stayed at the hotel, walked the surrounding hiking paths, enjoyed the local town and just walked and enjoyed the locals. Argos at Cappadocia is simply too special to use just as place to sleep. Our suite was fabulous--two floors with a massive, gorgeous bathroom and two huge terraces with astounding views--a perfect place to enjoy the complementary bottle of wine that awaited us. (see photos I have uploaded for actual views of the room and surrounds) Of course, as everywhere in Turkey, there is a minaret within feet of you, so alarm clocks are unnecessary ;)

We ate dinner twice at the restaurant and had excellent meals and great service. Breakfasts are excellent with made to order eggs of your choice. Meals can be taken outside on the terrace weather permitting and it is lovely. In the morning, the hot air balloons drift over you. It is very cool and surreal. There is free wi-fi that works perfectly inside and on the terraces. And unlike another reviewer, I found the mattresses to be very comfortable. Perfect in fact.

Everyday at 5PM the manager, the lovely and engaging Merve Uzel, gives a tour of the tunnels and wine cellars below the hotel. Taking this tour should be required!. It is as interesting as the entire "underground city" tour site. The owner of this hotel has such a respect for the region and it's history; you feel it in every corner and every item in the hotel.

For those who love horseback riding, this region is the best. Cappadocia means "land of beautiful horses" and there are horses available for trail riding through the Fairy Chimneys.

Lastly, you MUST take a balloon ride. You MUST. Here is a YouTube Video I did of our balloon ride with Butterfly Balloons: http://youtu.be/nc9X7m_WXYw

Just stay here. Stop looking for other options. It's fabulous, a great value and it will make your trip to Cappadocia so special.

Room Tip: Splurg on a deluxe room or suite. You won't regret it.

The location is incredible the views beyond spectacular ! The service warm efficient and non invasive a very important point for me we were lucky enough to have a working fireplace and in late autumn we used it! The bathroom was larger than my first apartment beautifully detailed.
The amenities in the rooms very nice I loved the turkish coffee machine :))
My only complaint is that the beds were all very uncomfortable. a hotel of this caliber really should have better mattresses. We had three rooms and all beds were so hard no one slept well at all.

The restaurant was much better than we expected the service friendly and competent . The wines were somewhat overpriced by Turkish standards but the selection was very good.
The breakfast was incredible everything you could imagine
The early breakfast bag to go was a nice touch for those going early to balloon rides or off for the day before 7 am

I would return but would ask before if different mattresses were available REALLY! Be sure to book with an agent the rates we paid were much better than what they quoted us privately and that was a surprise!

If the beds had been comfortable I would have given a perfect score!

Room Tip: If you have walking issues or are handicapped check to see if there are rooms all on one level many...

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Argos. The service was excellent, the rooms wonderful and the food superb. Below is a bit of a breakdown.

This property is clearly a labor of love by the owner. The restoration of rooms and buildings, the wonderful tunnels, the wine cellar and the conference room are extraordinarily special. The collections of artifacts in the public spaces and even in the rooms makes you feel that you are living history and not just staying in a hotel.

The included breakfast was a wonderful buffet and dinners were extremely reasonably priced and also very high quality. The restaurant staff go above and beyond to make your meals special.

I did have the pleasure of staying in a Splendid Suite, and the combination of the pool and fireplace made for a wonderful opportunity to unwind at the end of a day of touring.

This hotel was by far one of the best boutique hotels that I have stayed at! Merve who manages the show is such a warm and friendly person and the entire staff of the hotel embrace the same qualities that the hotel wants us to experience.

The rooms did have a bit of dust, but hey, we are living in a cave after all!! All though we did miss the sound system in the room that was mentioned as included in our booking.

The view from the hotel was simply magnificent, with one hot air balloon coming really close! Ask Merve for a tour of the hotel, there is so much history behind it and it is very interesting to know that the owner wants to make part of the hotel a museum to display ancient stones of the area, cooking utensils used 1000's of years ago, etc.

The breakfast spread included in the room rate had a splendid spread. From cheese, to cold cuts, eggs in whichever way you like, to pastries, etc.

The decor of the hotel uses old restored pieces with modern contemporary designs. The staff response are very prompt and satisfying. This gives you the feel that you could be sitting in the luxury of your own home!

You must definitely keep one day to enjoy the hotel without any sight seeing.

The pictures of Argos make you wonder if the place really can live up to them. Well, the pictures don´t lie. The hotel looks like nothing you´ve seen before and is beautifully built in the hillside. The lounge area and restaurant offer a lovely view of the Pigeon valley. We stayed four nights in splendid suite 3304 which is a cave with a private pool. The room is spacious and the decor is simple and beautiful. So is the bathroom and the heated towel rack was a nice detail. Be aware that this particular suite is a cave with now windows overlooking the valley. Two chairs are placed on a small platform outside the room and when sitting here you can enjoy a more private view of the scenery.

The food has a homemade touch and taste and everything we had either in the restaurant or ordered to our room was truly delicious. If I should give Argos one tip; put a "today´s" on the menu too. When you stay here for more than two nights, the menu does seem familiar on night three.

We stayed here over Eid, so the hotel was fully booked and the staff was really not up to speed handling all the guests. We had to ask more than one time before a glass of water or an espresso would turn up. One would think that a hotel like Argos have trained their staff to handle what is every hotel owners dream, a fully booked hotel.

The Cappadoccia region has a unique landscape and is really worth putting on your list of places to see and Argos does add to a spectacular and unforgettable travel experience.
