“Low Budget”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

Our 3 night stay was arranged for us in this pension by our tour agency. When you walk up the hotel is tucked into a corner and the first impression seeing the sign and the main door is not very good. But once you walk in the place is quite pretty. On to the room, we had a basic standard double room...and it is very basic. It's an actual cave room, which is pretty cool. But bathroom looks like it was added as an afterthought. Its very small and The shower has no door, so the entire bathroom will get soaked every time you shower. The service is okay, the staff take sometime to warm up, which sucks, cause they seem like they'd be cool. There are different levels of staying, including a dorm, basic rooms, plus a super cool suite, with a nice bathroom that we managed to sneak a peek at while wandering around. Their terrace has a nice view of Goreme, and in the mornings the hot air balloons are visible. The restaurant is ok, we only had breakfast there. The biggest pain is the wifi. You can't get any signal in your room, as its a cave,so you have to come out anytime you want to use a Internet connected device.

Room Tip: If you have the budget book their deluxe suite :)

This hostel offers simple, clean and affordable accomodation. I liked the breakfast and the views of Goreme from the pool's terrace. The staff was nice. You get what you paid for, I would return again.

We were placed in this pension by the tour agency. We got a double room with a private bathroom, which was very clean. The bathroom was very basic. Take into account that the shower has no curtains, the toilet has no lid, the toilet paper will, most likely, get wet. It was just OK to sleepover for one evening and leave the following day. Bed was confortable. The pension is very close to the city. Breakfast was REALLY good.
Staff at the reception was not friendly, neither upon check in, nor the following day, when we woke up early (4 am) to be picked up for the hot air balloon trip, nor upon check out. It looks like they take for granted that people will come in and flow out.

Room Tip: If you can, stay in a room with private bathroom facilities. I used the shared restroom upon arrival...

We booked two beds in the dorm room. The dorm room was in a cave and wasn't bad. The beds were decent and it was dark and cool even in August, the hottest part of the year. The hotel itself is very nice and has everything you need. There is one computer for people to use with internet for free. The breakfast was very good and lots of choices available. The pension is in the middle of town and close to everything in Goreme. The staff weren't overly friendly or helpful when we asked for suggestions, but they ended up saving us when we forgot our passports in the safe (they didn't remind us either that we had stuff in their safe). They sent our passports and money on the next bus to Ankara so all was well after a few hours, so I must congratulate them on this amazing task. A great place to stay and good value for the money.

Why choosing Shoe String?

1) Because it's very nice and quiet
2) Because its rooms are actual caves
3) Because its dormitory is perfect for low-budget travellers
4) Because it has an great terrace with an amazing view
5) Because the breakfast is huge and very good
6) Because Oktay is a great host and he will give you all the information to enjoy Cappadocia and the rest of Turkey, booking for you air balloons, bus tickets and blue cruises, ecc...

I loved this hostel

The location of the hotel is very convenient, about 3 minute walk to the center of town. The dinner was excellent as well for a small hotel. The first night we had meat balls (kofte) and they were juicy and well-spiced. The breakfast is mostly Turkish style, a good selection of cheese, olives, breads. The drink they offer on premise are reasonable as well. The staff that received us was very friendly and knowledgeable. The view from the pool area is breathtaking. It's definitely good value for money.

We stayed for 2 nights in the deluxe double room, which was great. We add on another night but had to move to standard double. The standard double room's toilet seat was broken, so you have to sit very carefully on it. The bed is not as comfortable as the deluxe room, but has much better connection to wifi. The shower also takes a while to heat up, I felt a lot of water's wasted. I'd say spend a little bit more and stay in a deluxe room and make this a special occasion.

Also right across from the hotel, that you can see from the pool area, there's a restaurant called Topdeck. It's a cute little restaurant that has beautiful food. Currently rated as #1 on Tripadvisor, by the way. See, I told you this place is convenient!

Room Tip: I think the super luxury rooms are on the 4th floor and has great view. Our deluxe was on the first...

Me and my friend stayed in a double room at Shoestring for a couple of nights in July. We really liked the place: very cute, friendly staff, great location and generally really good value for the price! We didn't have breakfast or used the pool due to the lack of time, but they looked fine. I would definitely go back!
