With Middle Earth Travel we hiked for 3 days in the mountainous region around Kaçkar. We went from Instagram favorite Pokut yayla in a beautiful day-walk to another yayla. There we were welcomed by Ufuk and her family as if we were old friends. In the evening we sang songs, thought some card games to the others (and were severly beaten while doing it..). We ate amazing vegetarian food (being vegetarian is no problem, enough cheese and veggies around).
Day 2 was a great hike to a crater lake where we swam. We foraged raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. We saw million different flowers.
Day 3 took us from Kavrun (appr 2000m) to the top where we saw 4 different lakes, a cute little mouse, some playful bulls and an enormous snail. On the way to our starting point a beautiful big bird (buizerd in Dutch). When we descended we were happy to see Mustafa and his indestructible bus! We ride back to Çamlıhemşin brought us through thick forests and a very touristic Ayder. Nice to see the contrast between what we did and what we happily missed.
Loved: pristine nature, flowers, foraging, nice pace, breaks with Turkish coffee from our hazelnut coffee mugs, singing along with Kerem guitar, getting to know the Laz culture, eating incredible cheese, sleeping like a baby, being beaten by Ufuk at my own game!
Would have loved more: had we only had more time!! 3 days was great to get acquainted with the area and to be sure you have to come back!!
Middle Earth is an outstanding, locally based agency: very thorough and realistic on tailored advice and programming according to client's interests and needs - in our case long distance walking on the St Paul Trail, Turkey. They are very professionally run by people who know their area and their business well. Coronavirus forced us to cancel the trip but we'll be back, and back to Middle Earth! Thanks, Deniz, for all your help.
Emrullah was an Excellent guide. Personality galore. Great itinerary and he was flexible to meet our needs. Everything was superb!
Just spent an excellently organized two day single track mtb holiday with mountain biking Turkey. Service offered from very first contact to very last drop off at the bus station was impeccable. Knowledgeable, helpful riding guides ready to inform with both the technicality of the track and also the history of the area. Accommodation and evening meal were excellently chosen and organized by the company which meant we could totally relax and soak up the fun of the terrain and the excellent riding. My son and I had so much fun thanks to all involved.
My friend and I did a 6 day guided hiking trip in Cappadocia and on the Lycian Way with Middle Earth Travel. Our guide and co-owner Kerem was excellent. His brilliant knowledge about the nature, history and culture of the places we visited enhanced our experience and also the rest of our trip through Turkey. He went out of his way to make sure we had the best experience possible. Organising the trip was very easy with Deniz in the office taking care of everything and answering our many questions. I hi
We booked the "Goreme Panoramic", which was billed as an easy to moderate ride on mostly dirt roads and paths, with occasional single track opportunities and many stops at local sights. Instead, we got a single track mountain bike tour. Our guide did not speak much english, so we had a hard time getting him to understand that aggressive single track was not what we had in mind. We did get him to change course, but did not see the sights and some of the valleys we expected. That said, we still enjoyed the scenery and riding (at least the second half!) and got to some unexpected places. Our suggestion: confirm the itinerary BEFORE you leave the shop with someone that speaks english.
