DO not pay good money to see this. A complete waste of time, phony baloney. There is no sense of spirituality when people are chugging water bottles, the dancers are sneezing and coughing, and the arena has seen better days.

This was the worst part about my trip to Turkey, but I give it a three because there is some skill involved in whirling like they do. However, if you see pictures of the dervishes beforehand, it looks like they are spinning quickly. They are not. The impressive thing is that they whirl for long periods of time. But after the third or fourth time they go into whirling, you really just want it to end. There was no explanation of what was going on, you sat in a theater, they came, they whirled, they left. Luckily they handed out a leaflet to try and explain what was going on. Anyway, if you can find some sort of a dinner service that has a dervish show, I would recommend that because then at least you have the food to entertain you. There is a restaurant in the Hippodrome area where you can see the dervishes while passing, you don't even have to commit to eating there. And in my opinion, seeing them whirl in passing is enough.

Great to see, didn't know what to expect, can appreciate the skill in whirling & not falling over, can respect their religous beliefs but hard to stay awake for 2 hours when whirling seemed to be 15-20 per cent of the show, not overly expensive so a unique experience any-how that i wont repeat when i revisit Turkey one day!

We didn't realize that Whirling Dervishes were religious in nature. No photos are allowed during the service, which is a little disappointing, but it was very interesting. There is a charge(about $30 per person) so it seems like a show, but it isn't.

Food was barely average and the wine was not drinkable. The dancers were good particularly the solo female whirling dervish. It would be very nice to be able to just pay to see the show and skip the meal.
