Dervis Evi Whirling Dervishes

If you've never seen the Whirling Dervishes, you should! They trance-like dance and music is simply mesmerazing. It's worth the 25-euro ticket. I have attened the 1-hour ceremony in Sarihan, just outside Avanos, near Goreme, Cappadocia. They serve tea at the end.

The cave rooms that the dance was located in was really stuffy. The music accompanying the dancers was ear piercing and filling rattling. We were served an outstanding meal in the cave next to the dancers, but again the air was so stuffy it was uncomfortable. The dancers were mesmerizing.

The performance was about 35 minutes, which were told about an hour, but to see these men swirl for long periods of time is amazing. This is so Turkish, something you would not see anywhere else. We took pictures during the performance, which were not told we could do,,,, SO wait until the end of the performance and two will come out and dance for you to take all the pictures you want. It is a ceremony we dont really understand, but you must learn to appreciate the religious aspect of the full ceremony... They give out leaflets so you can read what they are portraying during the ceremony... Enjoy Turkey!

I paid 60TL to see this spectacular show. The setting was beautiful. A far better performance than being part of a Turkish night. Very professional performance. Religion taken very seriously.

Could not understand much of this. There is only one form of whirling for one hour and since they speak in their Turkish Urdu language, you do not understand anything except keep watching them.
