Unique place.
They should isolate some paintings and some rocks inside the cave from visitor. People climb on the tables

Goreme Open Air Museum is a wonderful site where volcanic rock provided the perfect material to build homes, stables, chapels for the Christian communities who lived there. Fascinating and unique site.

Fantastic frescoes, but beware, your admission fee DOES NOT cover the DARK Church; you only find out when you arrive at the dark church, and it's actually in small print on the museum ticket.

However, do visit the Buckle Church (Tokali) across the road. Your ticket to the Goreme OPen Air Museum covers this as well. It is supposedly very very good, but beware! the church is open from 10 - 2 pm, and then it closes from 2 - 5 pm!!! It then opens again from 5 - 7 pm.

My husband and I didnt manage to visit the Buckle Church because we arrived at it after our time spent in the open air museum, and it was past 2 pm. As we were going to walk back to the village, and it was impossible to wait in the sun for 3 whole hours for the Buckle Church to re-open!

The open air museum was a great place to see in Cappadocia. Very interesting to see how these caves were made and how people lived in these areas. Highly recommended.

We waited until almost 4PM to go to the Park, per our hotel's suggestion as a way to avoid all the lines. Even so, there were so many people and tour buses it was tough to see everything. We actually preferred some of the other Cappadocia cave sites/monastary more. Of course, you have to go to the National Park when you're in the area because it The Thing to Do. But also try to hit up some of the other, less visited sites as well.
