“Not worth the money - explore the caves in the surrounding area for free instead!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We went to the open air museum and thought it probably wasn't worth the money. It is interesting if you like looking around churches, but we found it much more fun exploring the caves nearby for free which feel much more authentic and non-touristy. Just cross over the road and go down the hill a little and there are amazing views and caves to explore. We managed it in sandals but some sensible hiking boots might have been better!

“Museum outside and realistic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

It's real life and its real time. No stuffy lines no boring pictures, you can touch feel nd look around this museum. A short stroll ( albeit uphill) from Goreme town in Cappadocia the open air museum is well worth a visit.

It's not a rushed museum, you take your time and look at the beauty of the natural environment.

“Fascinating.”

Our second tour of this park and it was much improved with new lighting and the renovated Dark Church. The Dark Church is well worth the climb. Best done with a guide or the audio program.

Very interesting and informative introduction to the area. Captions in English so if you don't speak/read English you may not get full benefit.

“Incredible”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

How to describe a cluster of cave churches with the most amazing paintings, each depicting the tell of Christ in various forms and showing the various saints of the various churches.
One has to visit to see how the monks lived in caves and how wealthy people paid to be buried within a church and have a saint painted above their grave.
It's most certainly a place to visit, not just for the view but for the history.
