Royal Balloons was recommended by our hotel and we were NOT disappointed. We were picked up at 5:15 and taken to their Head Office for a buffet breakfast (basic, but satisfactory). We were then loaded into mini-vans and taken to the launch site which was only about 5 minutes away. We watched our balloon being filled and then we were up, up and away! It was a bit squishy with four of us in one of the four compartments (13 passengers and the pilot altogether). Our pilot/ guide, Suat, was fantastic! He was hilarious and felt comfortable bantering with the passengers (my husband, in particular) and offered lots of information on the sites we were seeing. We soared up into the sky as the sun was rising - it was absolutely spectacular. At least 100 other balloons were in various stages of flight as well, and it was a very mystical, magical feeling being up there. The scenery was amazing as we passed fairy chimneys, rock houses, the town of Goreme, and miles and miles of agricultural landscape. We were up in the air for about an hour and then had a very soft landing, where Suat managed to get the basket to land exactly on the trailer that was used to tow it. Impressive! We were treated to champagne, medals were passed out, and we were then driven back to our hotel. It was a fabulous, never-to-be-forgotten experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Cappadocia.
