My girl and I spent two nights in Panoramic Pension, although we did not intend to do so in the first place. There were some problems with our booking in the hotel we wanted to stay in originally, but luckily the manager of the latter arranged our stay in Panoramic. We didn't regret it! Staff was really nice and helpful and gave us the room for a price very close to the one we had originally booked for in the first hotel. That's especially worth mentioning because at the time we were there it was a big Turkish holiday which had boosted prices! Breakfast buffet was served in a cosy alpine-like cabbin which provided a great view over Goreme. It also had free Internet access. The room we stayed in had been built directly into the stone of these great rocks of Cappadocia, it was clean and warm (central heating) and had a bathroom attached (wc/shower) which, however, had no door... sth. to get used to but not the end of the world. Staff were friendly and helpful and made our stay a memorable experience!

All in all, a great place to stay in Cappadocia and certainly worth a visit!

After having checked out a couple of places, the Panoramic pension seemed straight away a better place due to the friendly guys which are running the pension and also because of the great location (from there you can see Goreme from the top). My friend and I preferred sleeping in the normal rooms which anyway are embedded in the rock but you can go for the "fairy chimney", which costs a little more but you will have the pride to sleep in a Unesco protected building. The breakfast quantity is enough for you to skip lunch and rather stroll around town or in the near rocky villages.
Last but not least, the owner and his partner are extremely nice and willing to help on your travelling questions.

We arrived at the pension in the early in the morning after 10 hour bus ride from Antalya, we were too tired to look for any other places. When we first checked the fairy chimney room it was, it's cool, brighter than other cave rooms..' and the price was same as other hotels 'cave rooms so we decided to stay there. As we walked in, we figured that there was no light bulbs and no tabs were fit on basin in toilet.. What the.. we went to tell the owner lady and she was like, 'oh we forgot to tell you, we can fit them in today' so were like 'ok, at least there is working shower', and it turned out that the water isn't warm yet due to solar panel just started heating up(?). So we waited for very long time for to have a shower til late afternoon. Well, they fit the light bulbs and tabs in while we tried to have a little nap, we had to wait outside for a while.. After all these trouble, we were going to move out, but the lady said she will make the room 10 TRY cheaper so we stayed.. However, when we checked out she demanded the original sum of money without any discount. And she told us that another German couple who arrived on the day are paying 20 TRY more than us so we should be thankful.
To sum up.. 1. they were fixing up the room while we were staying. 2 There is no hot water in the morning. 3. The owner didn't know much about the town (no information). 4. The price isn't fixed. 5. The hotel owner couple keeps fighting all the time (about money) 6.They didn't know their own internet password so we had to use some other hotel's weak WiFi connection. 7. They didn't keep their words...

The Yellow Roses Panoramic has an alias on Hostelbookers called "Global & Panoramic." We booked a week in advance for 8 nights and here is what happened.

Ergün picked us up from the bus station in Goreme and without warning took us to another hotel. He stopped the car, turned to us and said, "For the first night, you stay here, OK?" I said, "No, last week we made a reservation for 8 nights at your hotel." He said "Sorry, we are full." He didn't really care if it was "OK." Instead, he went inside that hotel to find us a room. However, they were full so he drove us to the Panoramic where they did actually have a spare room. Uh??? I don't get it.

It gets stranger. He put us in the room and said, "Tomorrow we move you to another room." I said, "Why got through all this trouble? We made the reservation last week." He said exactly this, "YOU'RE RESERVATION DOESN'T MATTER TO ME because some Chinese people booked late last night via Hostelbookers." I ignored the first part of that statement, chocking that shocking rudeness up to a translation problem. Instead I said, "Let me get this straight, I made a reservation for 8 nights. That means I am wanting to give your hotel 8 nights of business. And I made this reservation last week. But somehow you give precedence to a person who books at the last minute for a one night stay?" I didn't bother asking about why they didn't just give that other person this spare room or why they didn't just offer this spare room to us for the 8 nights. None of this was making any sense.

I asked, "So will you offer us a discount on the first night for this inconvenience?" He laughed, said no. Then, exasperated because I was arguing with him Ergün barked, "If you want to go, go." He made the shooing motion with his hand. Nice welcome to Goreme, eh?

I wish we had left when he shooed us away. But we just arrived via overnight bus from Konya. We were pooped, hungry, and nearly in tears, too tired to search for another room for the night. I figured we would make the most of it. After all, we're in Cappadocia.

I would not have believed it at the time but things got even worse. After we set down our bags, Ergün offered us a drink. My boyfriend asked for tea but they refused. No more tea. Huh? Have you ever heard of a Turk refusing to make tea? Especially after the debacle, you'd think they'd offer us a bottle of raki to smooth things over!

But feeling resigned and mellow, we explored the town and later returned to use the "free WiFi on the terrace." Only there was no WiFi. Instead, Ergün said that we would have to use the hard wire one at a time--and that meant sitting in their stuffy office. That didn't last long.

Later that evening we retired to our room after dinner. Given it's October, it's getting cold at night. We turned on the "central heating in all rooms." And guess what? Yep, no heat. I went to the toasty warm office to tell Ergün and he replied, "Sorry, it's still warm during the day so we don't put the heat on." Ouch. Double ouch given that his office was warm when he said this! Triple ouch given I explicitly asked in my email correspondence if there was heat in the room and was told yes.

One more thing, they claim to have a wonderful patio but as I write from our new hotel I can assure you the Panoramic has one of the poorest patios in town both in terms of view and in terms of comfort. Also, we slept badly in the dank, dingy, mildewy cave room. The next morning we bypassed breakfast, gave Ergün his money for one night and took off. He was as happy to see us go as we were to leave.

In sum: The Global & Panoramic/Yellow Roses (or whatever they call it) is a very badly run, uncannily unprofessional establishment that ruined our first night in Goreme. I would strongly recommend against staying here. There are a wealth of decent, good hotels in Goreme that deserve your business. Global & Panoramic, on the other hand, is the kind of business that deserves to fail.

On a whim I decided to stay at the Panoramic pansion (despite many lodging options) for four nights during my time in Goreme. It offers several rooms coming in the traditional cave, stone cut, and fairy chimney variety. All the rooms looked great and had a certain character and warmth. They were also clean, spacious (even the fairy chimney) and charming with bright bed linens and carpets on the floor. My bed was huge (king) and comfy.

The best things though probably had to be the friendly family that ran the place, the cute little beagle, Funny, whom fortunately wasn't much of a barker, and the double level, indoor/outdoor terraces that provided the best panoramic views of the town. It's on these terraces that you have breakfast every morning. On occasion you might see a few of the hot air balloons traveling across the sky while having the yummy breakfast. I enjoyed the fact that the cook (mother of the family) made something a little different every morning. Some mornings you had an omelet instead of a hard-boiled egg, others these deep fried doughy things.

They had a TV which guest where allowed to use in the family room/indoor terrace, which had glass windows all around, as well as a computer with internet for guest use. And without fail, everytime I returned from a hike, meal, or excursion out, I was always offered coffee or tea upon my return.

They also offer very reasonably priced excursions. In fact, their prices were better than those at the tour agencies in town. I booked my hot air balloon ride and tour to Nemrut through the manager here and got a great deal. He was even nice enough to guide people through Zemi Valley on their way to the Open Air museum.

If I'm ever fortunate enough to make my way back to this magical place, I will definitely stay here again.
