Lalezar Cave Hotel

We arrived early morning at Goreme after a 12 hour overnight bus ride from Istanbul. We were a little disoriented as there was no one there to receive us. We went to the tourist information office located close by and the officer on duty made a phone call to the hotel. We were told to wait 5 minutes and true enough a jeep came over to fetch us to the hotel.

First timers take note - you get dropped off at the terminal and you report to the tourist information office and they would inform the hotel of your arrival and would send someone to pick you up.

The hotel was located up on a slope af a fairy chimney close to the town's centre. We received a very warm welcome from Ozzy the co-owner of the hotel's restaurant. Our initial anxiety of our arrival at the terminal was quickly forgotten with the ever highly enthusiastic and very energetic Ozzy chatting us up during breakfast. He even briefly gave a summary of the tour we were about to take the same morning and that helped us to mentally prepare ourselves for the day.

We were given a dugout cabin/cave room with no window. The big terrace attached with a view of the whole valley of Goreme easily compensated for the lack of direct sunlight into the room. The room was big enough for the three of us and was equipped with a small TV but there was no signal for wifi. The beds were big and the sheets clean. The bathroom was of medium size, well maintained and furbished with almost new towels! We slept well and did not have any problem with the temperature.

We took Ozzy's offer of a barbecue dinner for 20TL/pax for the evening. It turned out to be a feast of deliciously prepared chicken barbecue and other local delicacies. Ozzy had 20 years of training in the art of culinary! Note - Request Ozzy for his barbecue chicken dinner, you will not regret it! After dinner we had tea in the dugout part of the hotel's cosy lounge. The wifi was good both there and at the dining area.

Breakfast was standard and hot Turkish tea was free all day long. We wished we had stayed longer at Lalezar and would really like to know Ozzy and his team better. This was not a 5 star hotel, and we didn't expect it to be, but the charm, the enthusiasm and the extra hospitality offered by the staffs and the owners were enough for us to want to come back to this hotel.

If you're for the hospitality of the people rather than the facilities, we would recommend Lalezar for you.

We stayed in the suites that came with 2 double beds. It was nicely decorated with carpets and ornaments. Two areas did not meet up to our expectations- one was the breakfast and the other was the cleanliness of our rooms. Either the owner wanted the place to resemble a real cave or the furnitures were due for a good cleaning. If you have difficulty climbing up 3 flights of stairs, do consider staying somewhere else.

We stayed here two nights in September 2010. We were looking for a cave hotel in Goreme to take expirence of living as ancient people in this location but all cave hotel were so expensive - more than 75 euro for double, and most of them were full. We saw Lalezar Hotel by chance. There were free room for reasonable price - only 50 euro for double with breakfast. The staff is so friendly and helpful! They gave us full map of Cappadocia with the walking routs and told about all atractions. It was wonderful expirience to live in this hotel. Breakfast is good, rooms is large with big and comfortable cave bed, the hotel is in the heart of Goreme. I recommend this hotel everybody and we will stay here again next time!

A +++ all the way around -
Cozy rooms, inviting open areas, tea all day long. Located a stroll away from the charming main street, with zero pressure shops, restaurants, shops, cafes and restaurants. Wish I could have stayed a few more days! The staff plays a mean game of darts too! ; )

Lalezar Cave hotel is just a 10 minutes s stroll ( with luggage ) from the Goreme Town Center .( where the bus drops off ) .But it is a steep climb up and can be challenging for some . The hotel is nested into the base of a fairy chimney and appears pretty from the outside .
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful , but there were a few things going against the hotel .
1. The breakfast was just average .
2. The linen on the bed seemed to be dirty and not changed since the previous occupants . However it was changed promptly when we informed them .
3. The Heating was turned on , but just at minimum and we complained 4 times thru the night that our room is too cold , but it was of no avail and the heat was not turned up .
This was a major issue with us .
4. The hotel has Wi-Fi , but the signal is not strong enough to reach the rooms and internet has to be done sitting in the sitting room of the hotel .
5. The hotel has no lifts
6. Our room had no windows at all , and apparently there were only 2 rooms int he hotel with a window . May not be a problem for some , but can be difficult for some people .

The other Points going for the hotel are
1. As i mentioned the staff tried to help us with whatever they could .
2. our room had a sitting area just outside and we enjoyed the view and evenings outside .
3. The rooms were generally spacious , clean and the bathrooms clean .

Stayed in for two nights, the room was very impressive. had a nice clean modern bathroom, the view from the room was awesome, I could sit on my bed and enjoy view of the town and the fairy chimneys. To wake up to see that view was priceless. The location is perfect and 2 minutes walk to the paronamic view peak point. Overall, it's perfect for relaxation and gives you a feeling of peace and quiteness. Nice staff and helpful.
I personally loved it.

I travelled with a family of 6 and stayed here for 2 nights. We had 3 rooms tucked in a cave with a little "living room" area outside our rooms. The rooms are clean but the bedsheets and towels seem to look old and grey.

It is a unique experience sleeping in a "cave" as it supposedly keeps u warm when it's cold outside and cool when it's warm outside. It was rather chilly at night and we needed the heater on but it wasn't very strong. Still we could sleep comfortably.

We also met with power cuts throughout the town 3 times in 2 days, but other than having no light, there is still some hot water if you happen to be caught showering when the power goes out.

The staff is very personable and friendly. Ozzy has a quirky sense of humor and may rub people the wrong way at first but he is really nice.

Breakfast is traditional Turkish style so no elaborate spreads or international cuisine.

Because there are no lifts, all luggages will have to be hand carried up the steps, with the help of the staff if you need. My room wasn't cleaned out on the first day, while another only had their rubbish emptied.

The hotel is located on a little hill some distance from the main area where the souvenir shops and restaurants are located, but it still within walking distance. The location of the hotel however means there is a better view of the area compared to hotels located closer to the main street.

Wifi is free but only available in the lobby/restaurant area.
