When making the run up the Turkish Riviera, it's nice to find a place that knows the meaning of service, the definition of which is "meeting or exceeding the customer's expectations." The one place I ran into service in my travels from Bodrum to Byzantium was in Kusadasi, at an adorable little pension called the Goldenbed (or is it the Golden Bed?). Nobody demanded to hold on to my passport, I got a beautiful view of the ocean complete with crossbreeze, a staff fluent in both Turk and English, a rooftop terrace and breakfast complete with olives the owner cures herself. You will never forget those olives.
Maybe it's not the olives, but the hand that cures them, Sandra, owner and proprietor, who came all the way from Australia to find herself in a new life in a strange land, complete with all the tales to tell of one who found herself running a hotel nine thousand miles away from her homeland. Go figure.
