“Great Location, Nice Enough Rooms”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

The location is very central and is directly across from the beach. We had a room with a balcony and it was gorgeous. The rooms themselves are small and the finishes are just okay. The bed is not very comfortable (only has a sheet) and the bathrooms are pretty small. The restaurant downstairs was good, but do not except authentic Turkish food. The prices were high for the area. Overall, the location and the balcony made us love our stay here.

Our room was clean and spacious. The staff was very pleasant staff. The hotel is walking distance from the Bazaar, and fronting the Aegean Sea where you can swim if you wish. Great places to eat nearby as well. Our room was spacious. Also, across the hotel is a park (which stretches along the Aegean Sea) that people walk and sit to enjoy the view and sea breeze.

The staff were extremely helpful when the local tour agency - castle tour , last minute change my schedule resulting in a series of inconvenience.

Prior to my overnight trip back to Istanbul , they went out of the way to did a place for me to shower and tend me while I try to sort out the issues.

Please do visit this hotel dying your stay, you will never be disappointed. My heartfelt thanks to the staff and management !

Sidenote - DO NOT TRAVEL WITH CASTLE TOUR, extremely unprofessional.

While the Ilayda Hotel looks clean and modern, it's a big disappointment. The rooms are so small you have nowhere to put your clothes and suitcases; the lighting is snazzy but so dim that there's nothing to do at night but watch TV; there was only one sheet on the bed (no top sheet) and no extra pillows; no complimentary toiletries in the bathroom; the breakfast buffet is mediocre, with a juice "drink" coming out of a machine and the coffee coming out of a Nescafe machine; and finally, the reception staff is unhelpful and barely courteous. They really make you feel like they disdain tourists. It was also represented to us as a 4 star hotel, and it didn't even have a fitness room.

On another related note, we did not like Kusadasi. It's dirty, noisy and crowded. The beaches were littered with sunflower seeds that people spit out and the water was covered with a thin film of oil from the boats. Why be on the coast if you can't enjoy the beach?

We did have however, one of the best meals of our trip there. If you like really delicious fresh seafood, go to Ali Babba, just to the right of the fisherman's warf square.

The Otel Ilayda is an older property that has received a complete renovation. The hotel is located on the main road fronting the beach and has 5 floors of guest rooms. The pictures on the website show the place off accurately. There is a large and small room, we had the small one shown. The room we had was on the 3rd floor and faced the Aegean Sea. Never sure what a hotel in Europe means when it says "double", but the bed was firm and large (King Size). The floor to ceiling sliding door was nice as you could open it all the way and lean over the tiny (12" deep) balcony. The modern room was very small (but clean) and it was difficult to find a place for both of our suitcases. I ended up having to zip it up and put it in front of the door and lay it out on the bed to open it fully. The bathroom was fine, not the smallest nor the largest I used on my trip. The A/C was good and there is a small refrigerator for use.
Location was fine as you could easily walk into the main part of the town in 5 min. The street (Ataturk) is busy and is good for people watching. If you do not like to see the sunset and the street and beach, you could ask for one of the rooms that doesn't face the water and look out across a brown soccer field and towards the hills. There is a 24hr Pharmacy nearby of which I had to (unfortunately) avail myself.
I didn't have a car, but it looks like it is street parking only. The night I ate at the hotel restaurant on the main floor, I saw plenty of parking police looking to give tickets, so mind the signage. The restaurant was fine, not great and the service was slow. It was also a bit on the pricey side if travelling on a budget. The Rooftop breakfast area was great though, with lots of room and the best views of the sea and the cruise ships letting off passengers looking to visit nearby Ephesus. In all, a good to very good hotel with nothing that would make me stay away, yet nothing in particular that would draw me back. If staying in Kusadasi again, I would definitely consider this hotel, especially if I could get a larger room.

Room Tip: There are 2 sides, one facing the sea and one facing a field. Looks like the upper level Corner roo...

Kusadasi is the port town for giant cruise ships bringing passengers to visit Ephesus. The hotel is located on the water, but just enough distant (about 4-5 blocks) from the harbor so that it is not swarmed by the cruisers while the ships are in port. The rooms are, as noted, very small and it takes a little ingenuity to find room for two suitcases. Once situated, we found no problems with the size. The rooms are modern, neat and well soundproofed. The attached restaurant is very good, with a nice view of the sunsets. Breakfast is on the top floor and also provides nice views.
I recommend the hotel.

If you want to be in the centre of Kusadasi, the Ilayda is in a great location. If driving, the hotel keeps a few spots in front of their hotel for your car. The rooms have been renovated, but are tiny. If you are travelling with suitcases, it would be a squeeze to get two suitcases in the room. The terrace breakfast area gives you a great view of the harbour. If watching cruise boats come in and out of port is your thing, there are many cruise lines coming to take their guests to Ephasus.
The hotel photo shows a small beach across the street. It is not a place you would put a beach towel down on.
Kusadasi is a busy town.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room.
