Palmin Sunset Plaza
Ranked #54 of 156 Hotels in Kusadasi
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Stayed here from 16th - 23rd September.
The Hotel is spotless, the staff extremely friendly, and can honestly not think of one thing the staff could have done more.
We were told on booking the only rooms available were twins, but Sunway put in a request for a double, and that was granted on arrival.
I have read the reviews regarding bottled water, and although there are signs, and the rep made a point of mentioning it, it was not really enforced as far as I could see, certainly no-one ever searched us.
The point is made that it is in accordance with every international hotel this rule is enforced. Hmm every international hotel except the ones I have stayed in the US, Germany, China, Egypt, Holland, Spain, Bulgaria, Belgium..etc etc haha - and it has to be said - in no other hotel I have I ever had salt water piped through the cold taps as this one does :)

Just to re-cap though - this wasn't really an issue, just buy the odd bottle of water and dont be stupid about being obvious what you bring in and i'm sure its fine. The facilities are good, the food is great, and the staff very friendly.

I would just like to reply to some of the price issues people are having.
We ate in the Hotel, and also in other restaurants around the place. We found the hotel to be cheaper than most of the popular places on Ladies beach, and certainly a lot cheaper than the popular "Irish Bars/restraunts". Turkey is not as cheap as it used to be, and prices can often be comparable with middle of the road restraunts in Ireland.

If you are thinking of booking here for next year, I would recomend. We had a fabulous week.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for pool view :)

Myself and my Fiance stayed here from the 16-23rd Sept, and honestly I have very few complaints about the hotel or location. We were in room 207, so it was overlooking the pool. Really good size rooms, bathroom & balcony, and spotless to be fair. I don't know what all the chat about the beds are about, but maybe its just preference or that we have two functioning hips, but we thought it was perfect. There is only one pillow provided, but ask housekeeping for any extra's and they will provide them straight away. I know we shouldn't have been watching TV on hols, but on one or two lazy/hungover afternoons, it was a nice surprise to have a movie channel and others in English which is rare enough for overseas hotels. The sheets and towels were changed everyday, and the housekeeping staff were lovely.

The bar is expensive - beer is def more expensive than is in town, but then again, it can be as there is no bars around the hotel to compete with. The pool is lovely, except there is an inordinate amount of wasps, but perhaps this is down to the time of year! The only complaint that needs to be mentioned is the parrot that appears at 1pm sharp each day, and yells down the microphone about "wwatttteeerrr pooolllllloooooooo" or whatever other activity is planned for that afternoon. Again, its not our bag of chips, but others were eating up with a big spoon, so perhaps we are just not used of resort activities, but her voice really did pulsate through my head. There was also nightly "entertainment", but after witnessing the first display of this, in which a man similar to Ron Burgundy performed the worst magic acts known to man, we avoided each night that followed with vengeance. We also had the Turkish Bath in the Venus Spa (€18), very relaxing and something different.

Kusadasi centre is very easily located via the Dolmus bus - 2.25lira - about 25 minutes ride. Advisable to get off once you see Capi Diem - its the most central point in the town. There is not a whole lot to see, every stall is pretty must the same, closely guarded by the same overly excitable men practically dragging you into there shops to buy "genuine fake" converse shoes, or Burberry bags! If you take their comments and "persuasive manner" with a pinch of salt, and have a bit of craic with them, they generally calm down and climb down off your back. Dont be afraid to haggle like hell, and if you don't think you are getting a good price, dont be after to tell them you will come back to them! If they offer you tea or a drink, this is of course a ploy to get you to buy, but if you just chat to them about their own lives etc, take their card and tell them you'll be back, they are usually good humoured about it. As fakes go, they are pretty good. There is a good variety of places to eat - however we found Saray & Ekiz the best for turkish food with really fresh Fish & Meat options. Saray is pricey by Turkish standards, but think its worth it for the ambience and food. If you want home away from home, you cannot go wrong with Ladies beach - Somewhere Else has good fresh food, and we also had breakie in Seamus's Place - proper Irish breakie. Personally I don't like going away and seeing menu's exactly like home, but they are there for those who dont want to taste the turkish tucker.

On a whole, I think the hotel is perfect for couples and young families - def a no no for young and singles or you'll be bored off your block. The weather was perfect for us at this time of year, and as the hotel is on a cliff, there is always a nice breeze. Don't mind the BS chat of staff checking your bags for water or food purchased outside the premises, cos unless you have a stall strapped to your chest, I reckon they would not nor would have any legal standings to do that! Also, don't heed the pics of close ups on iphones of chipped corners and rusting shower nozzles - honestly some ppl just need to get out more! The hotel is lovely, food in it is grand, only ate in it a handful of times (dont get anything with bacon...i mean it just goes without saying that a country that does not eat it, probably wont stock anything other than cat spam), and the staff are sound!

All in all, I would go back to the Palmin - just would ensure to bring ear plugs or sedatives for the annoying rep girl!

Cheers

Laura, Sligo x

This was my 8th holiday to Turkey and my third stay at the Palmin Sunset and Im going to be honest when I stay that the negitives outway the positives. This hotel is rated 4* and to be fair I would give it an average 3*. It is a very clean complex, low rise and the pool is really nice. Food is ok, not alot of choice and pricey. The rooms are very spacious, nice balcony but the beds were so uncomfortable that we had to use the sofa bed. The bathrooms are in need of refurbishment, very old and shabby. You have to climb into quite a high bath to access the shower and the water is so salty I would recommend you ONLY use bottled water... From pervious years I also felt the attitude of the staff had disimproved. The waiters were not so friendly and the staff in the shop were very rude. Entertainment here is very good with something on each night. Having visited Turkey many times, this time round I felt that the prices are now the same as Spain, Portugal even Ireland which is a shame. Value for money is a thing of the past here and the hotel also needs to address some of the above issues. Time for a change of scene for us next year Im afraid.

Just back from a week in the sunset plaza, we had the most amazing holiday there. The staff are brilliant, the rooms were clean, bright and airy. Beds were actully quite comfortable. We had a ground floor family room, which consisted of two interconnecting rooms so we had so much space which also had an excellent view of the amazing pool. They may charge Irish prices for drink but they don't serve Irish measures GREAT!!!! No staff member ever approached us as we entered or left the hotel. Entertainment good except for the magic guitar players AS they say on the X FACTOR it's 4 from us. Fifi was so friendly and really funny, Turkish night was the best !!!!

Just got back from my first trip to Turkey, and this hotel also. I was worried by some of the reviews, but if you check the dates of negative reviews, they are few and far between and you will always get disgruntled one-review-wonders that had a "terrible time".

The hotel is spotless inside and out. The pool is a great size and each day, and night, entertainment or staff are on hand to try and help you in any way you need. The location is a 20 minute (downhill) walk to the very popular Ladies Beach area that has numerous restaurants and bars. There is a dolmus bus stop outside the hotel and always taxi waiting to bring you anywhere you want (Dolmus is about 0.75c to ladies beach & €2 to kusdadasi)

The room was large for two, and had a portable 14" tv and small fridge that was no use at all. It would lose electricity when they key was taken from the room and was said to be "something to keeo things cool" as opposed to make them cool. In my opinion, it did neither. Each room has a safe that is €10 per week. The cleaners came everyday and changed towels and sheets. Nothing went missing from the room, but we left nothing lying around. Some rooms have no view, viewing only other balconies, but for an extra (I think) €50 you can have a pool view room. I think the whole hotel is housed by Irish people. I didn't talk to any other nationalities.

The only problem with the hotel was the price of drink in the bar. It's more expensive then nearly all other bars we drank in. Efes is the local Turkish beer and is 7lira a bottle in the hotel, 6lira in most bars and 5lira in some. Heineken, Bud, Magners are all more or less the same price as a pub in Ireland and shorts are the same also.

I'd definitely stay here again and next time make more of the private beach which is a 3 minute walk fromt he hotel door, downhill and about a 10 minute uphill walk! Its very very steep!

Oh and it's not a 4 star hotel. It's a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: You have to pay extra for a pool view so contact them in advance to book this if you want, a pool vi...

The hotel itself was fine. The location of the hotel was excellent and the staff were first class. The food was good. The layout of the complex was excellent. The only fault we found was the water in the shower and wash hand basin was pumped up from the sea. This meant we could not have a proper shower or shave,so we had to buy gallons of water from the shop for our basic needs. We will not return to this hotel until they solve their water problems

Room Tip: If you like salty water then all their rooms are good. Choose a room that is located as far away fro...
