When our family of 7 wound our way to the front of Ponz, we were wondering whether we had been taken for a right ride! We had done a day of driving in from Marmaris and spent the day in Ephesus (wonderful wonderful) and in Selcuk town (where there was a big weekly market on Thursday).
When we entered the Ponz at the ground floor, things looked dank and depressing.
It was when we hit level 1 that things changed. Here was a long woody bar, with seating inside and out on the porch, facing a largish swimming pool with rooms all around the pool and bar. We met Michelle (general manager? owner? head chef?) who quickly sorted out some minor issues with our rooms.
Ponz is a British setting. The food was excellent, and available when you wanted it. The team of Michelle and Jojo (her husband) were courteous, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We were fed drinks and burgers within 30 minutes of our arrival; and our bag of clothes laundered away the next morning.
My only regret (michelle) is that I never ended up using their kitchen to cook up some butter chicken (chicken tikka masala) for dinner. Michelle has promised however to look up my blog, and who knows, it could be added to her menu by the time you get there!
A beach is 300m away from the hotel, and a truly efficient bus service (#5 and #10) take you from the corner of the hotel to the kusadasi harbour every 5 minutes. Cost was 15.50 lira for 7 of us - so pretty effective; and this allows you to see some of the town and decide where you want to come and spend time.
We spend quite a while in the main town area; and half a day at the waterpark. Which is avoidable honestly, unless you havent been to one before. We've been to the one in Dubai at the Atlantis, and after that, this one came up short on the thrill factor!
