Kismet Hotel
Ranked #59 of 156 Hotels in Kusadasi
Reviewed May 29, 2012

The lobby of the Kismet is filled with photos of almost every crowned head of Europe in the Fifties and Sixties; Britain's present Queen Elizabeth stayed here. Then it was probably the only place to stay in a charming little fishing village. Sadly, it is now marooned on the end of its little headland among Costa Brava - style development. It remains an oasis of tranquility, excellent service and rather faded glory. The food is average but the dining room delightful; Our room was spacious and most are likely to have terrific sea views, comfortable but not equipped to modern standards. Lovely gardens and both beach and pool. Would not want to spend a holiday here but lovely for a few days of relaxation. A great jumping off place for a visit to Ephesus but get there before the cruise liners disgorge their passengers or you will be competing for the sights with c. 25,000 others!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view with balcony.

This hotel built by a grand daughter of the Ottomans. Is run by charming helpful people. The rooms are good and the position of the hotel ensures good views for everyone. It's an old hotel, don't expect chrome and plastic , be pleased when the parrot in reception gives you a cheeky whistle.
The drawback I find is that the dining room is across the courtyard and down 2 sets of steps not good in the rain. The breakfast room is in the body of the hotel.Breakfast is standard and any requests provided for.
The town of Kusadasi is not the most attractive so stay and enjoy the hotel!

Room Tip: A corner room with double aspect windows

As others have said, the position on a headland overlooking the marina is very good. But tht makes it about 25 mins walk to the centre of Kusadasi. Otherwise it is average to poor. The rooms are fairly good, most with small balconies. The ones facing north, like ours, were probably quieter: one could go to sleep with a faint sound of the waves. People in south-facing rooms reported more noise from the town. Breakfast wasn't very good: orange juice obviously from concentrate and very thin - a great pity in a country with ripe oranges everywhere. Our group had 4 dinners in the hotel, which weren't all that good either: limited choice of main courses not very appetising.

Our room, like about a third of the total, was on a floor which couldn't be reached on the level from the lift, you had also to go up 8 steps, then down 8. A bit like the set of "Fawlty Towers", for anyone who remembers that. So if you wan't to avoid too many stairs, ask about access when choosing a room.

One serious issue was that their swimming pool area was closed throughout our stay - they said that mid-May wasn't the summer season. One could swim in the sea, but it was fairly cold and choppy while we were there, and the swimming area with about one square foot of beach, wasn't all that attractive.

Room Tip: North side probably quieter; some rooms accessible only lift and stairs.

This hotel is located on a very narrow peninsula giving every room a view of the ocean on one side or the other. The rooms were small and dreary unless you happened to receive one of their suites. Hotel was run down. Breakfast was normal. Do not order a Coke or coffee or tea. The price is outrageous. Almost $5.00 US for a small Coke! Ouch!!! The best part of this hotel is the location.

Room Tip: Request a larger room or suite on the harbor or town side.

I have been going to the Kismet for over 30 years and am astounded at the poor reviews. There are newly renovated rooms that are delightful and I have never seen dirt here. Pity the poor tourist who wants all of the glitz of modern hotels, when the old world charm here is a gift. The garden overlooking the Aegean is worth the trip. What better place to relax after a hard day of sightseeing? But, of course, those who denigrate it are tourists, not traveler.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Sadly, I agree with all of the other poor reviews. It's not the cleanest hotel, the breakfast is mediocre, and the front desk staff is...well I'll just say that they are not providing the sort of hospitality that Turkey is known for. There is no information in the guest rooms - no menu, no local map, etc. Unfortunately, there are much worse hotels than the Kismet. Kusadasi doesn't have great hotels. We end up putting clients here despite the drawbacks.

If you are eating/drinking here, watch what you order. There are some ridiculously overpriced items (e.g., a 50 lira chocolate souffle) that the staff will steer you towards. Insist on seeing a menu (and you will have to be rather insistent). We ordered room service because we were tired - the only reason you should order room service here. For better dining options walk down the hill to the main street. To your left is a nice (but pricey) seafood restaurant - Tarihi Cinar Balik, and across from there are 3-4 inexpensive "regular" restaurants. Pick the one in the middle - Antep Mutfagi - tasty fresh food, excellent service, affordable and yummy wine list. The closest one on the corner wasn't good.

Very disappointed in this hotel - rooms were drap & dreary, food mediocre, service on the outside patio was terrible - we waited for over 1/2 hour for a waitress & she waited on another couple, before us, as soon as they sat down; the girl at the front desk couldn't speak English & didn't even know what an ATM machine was!; the bellman was fantastic & I pointed out to him, in front of the manager, that he was the best attribute of the entire hotel. The location was beautiful - they displayed all their famous customers pictures on the lobby walls - they obvioulsy weren't treated like we were - or maybe they were & they never came back! I am a camper so do not care about all the bells & whistles but this was the only place I've stayed that when we left & dropped off the key at the front desk, they didn't even ask if we enjoyed our stay or even said goodbye - they just didn't care - they had our money & that was all they cared about. Our travel agent told us htis was one of the best two hotels in Kusadassi - I wouldn't want to stay in the other ones!
