“Great tour with Atilla of Magical Steps Travel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Atilla met the eight of us as we exited the pier at Kusadasi. We walked to a neat, clean, air-conditioned van and spent the next several hours exploring Ephesus. Atilla is a very knowledgeable and organized guide who loves sharing the wonderful ruins with his clients. He steered us around the crowds and found quiet corners to talk with us. He allowed time to enjoy the sights without being rushed to keep up with someone else's schedule. His fluent English enhanced communication and he was happy to share insights of his beautiful country. We enjoyed a delicious Turkish lunch (included) before returning to the port. I'd recommend Atilla and Magical Steps Travel for anyone searching for a personalized tour instead of a large group bus tour. The cost was actually less than the offered by the ships...another plus!

“The BEST tour ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

We have just returned from a cruise that included the Kusadasi/Ephesus. Not certain whether to book through other services we used the ever-helpful Trip Advisor to find a company for us. We made the agreement via email and received swift confirmation. We agreed to pay at the end of the tour in USD. The day of the tour, they met us at the dock with our private SUV and driver, with a name card as promised. The transfer was flawless. TOUR GUIDE (UGUR) We do not have enough superlatives for Ugur who really made our visit to Ephesus, The House of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis so wonderful. He was patient, an expert in the local areas ad provided a rich history about the area near Ephesus and its many incarnations . Our tours with this company far exceeded our expectations. You should seriously consider using this company as no one will be disappointed. We were easily able to maneuver through large crowds of the cruise ship tour companies. Further, we had delightful lunch (included) at a local restaurant- the only other out of town people there were also booked through this company.

There is only one minor issue we had but can be dealt with if you are aware- we went to see a "silk worm/carpet manufacturing" event after lunch. We were not prepared to purchase carpets nor were we interested in doing so. That said, it was an very interesting presentation.

“Good Tour of Ephesus, Tour Guide very knowledgable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

We had a very nice tour with Magical Steps Private Day tours in June during our 12 day Mediterranean cruise. The family we were traveling with was the contact person and booked the tour. We originally booked the tour for 8 people and about a month before changed the number of people to 14 because another family wanted to join us and there seemed to not be a problem.

Our tour guide Tevfik, met us promptly at the ship and took us to the van where his son and the driver were waiting. This is the biggest issue we had. The van only sat 12 people, it would have sat 2 more in the front but then there was no room for the guide or his son. It didn't become an issue because 2 people that were scheduled to come did not because they were not feeling well. We were concerned though because had they been there, we couldn't have all fit.

Tevfik was a very thoughtful and knowledgeable tour guide. However, he spoke about everything at a very detailed level and did not engage the children or speak in terms they could really understand (we had 5 kids aged 10 and 12). We as adults respected his knowledge but he was speaking way over their heads. Tevfik was respectful of the older members of our traveling party. He made sure to let keep a pace they could keep up with and when we were doing something that he thought would be difficult for them (like walking through the Terrace Houses) he let them know and found them a shady spot to sit in .

After a very thorough tour of Ephesus on a very hot day, it would have been nice if there had been water provided by the Tour Company, as was on our other private tours in other countries. We then went to lunch at a very nice place with a bunch of others using the same tour company. The lunch was very good. Before we got there Tevfik mentioned that he was taking us to see carpets, which was not ok for most of our group, due to bad experiences in the past. Although he was required to, he understood that we were adamant about not going (after the men told him that - cultural issue) and he acquiesced.

He then took us to see a couple of other sites and then back to the port.

Overall we had a good experience with our tour guide and this tour. The company is very easy to deal with and was very responsive to emails prior to the trip. I would recommend them to others.

We have just returned from a Mediterranean cruise, which included the port of Kusadasi (as a launchpad to visit Ephesus). Before our visit we did not know much about Ephesus, nor had we ever booked a shore excursion with anyone other than the cruise company. However, based on all of the positive Tripadvisor reviews, we decided to book with Magical Steps - and we are so glad that we did!!

The booking process was flawless. First contact was made by phone and we immediately received answers to all our questions. We followed up by making the booking via email and received swift confirmation - arguably the most efficient and friendly booking experience ever from a tour company (thank you Gonca!). The company also provides the option to pay cash in person during the tour, which gave us added comfort.

Our guide, Ugur, was waiting for us outside Arrivals when we disembarked, with a name board as promised. After a friendly welcome, he escorted us to our vehicle waiting outside the port - an air conditioned ~8 seat minivan, in good condition, comfortable and very spacious (especially considering there were only 2 of us, plus Ugur and the driver). Again, the transfer was flawless.

We do not have enough superlatives for Ugur who really made our visit to Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis special. Throughout the trip, it was clear that Ugur was an expert in his field providing an abundance of interesting information / commentary as we went around the sites, delivered in an interesting, engaging and friendly way. The pace at which we went around the site was perfect - we never once felt rushed or uncomfortable - and he provided us with time at various points along the way to have a closer look on our own and take photos (something that was important for us). Ugur spoke fluent English (amongst other languages).

Ephesus - what can we say except "wow". Completely exceeded expectations and a "must" for anyone visiting Kusadasi. Was a highlight of the trip and one of the most fascinating historical city / ruins we have seen (and we say that having been to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Acropolis, etc). The only downside is that the site gets very busy - but this is where a private excursion really paid off versus the very large groups associated with the cruise ships' own shore excursions.

We cannot recommend Magical Steps highly enough. Not only do you get the personal experience, but Magical Steps was slightly cheaper than the cruise operator and included lunch too! For those that worry about missing the ship - we too worried about doing a private excursion - but there is absolutely no need to worry given ample time, little traffic and fantastic logistical arrangements by Magical Steps! (As for the Carpet Factory referred to in other posts, you will find that all tour operators, including the cruise ships, incorporate a short carpet presentation. We felt no obligation at all to see the presentation or purchase anything - in fact, we opted to see it and actually found the whole experience quite interesting).
