Stopped at this restaurant while staying in Kusadasi on my recent trip to Turkey. We were staying at the Ilayda Hotel and decided to wander down the street to find a bite to eat instead of eating at the restaurant.
We came upon a very sharply dressed fellow who beguiled us into his establishment, just off the main street, down a side alley. So glad his charming care brought us in for we were treated to a wonderful evening of food and conversation at the Efes.
Sahin, our server/host extraordinaire, took care to ensure we had a prime seat (what to see the comings and goings on the street beside us and to get a solid view of the sunset over the sea), suggested a wonderful Turkish red wine (Majestick) and gave an extensive overview of the establishment's various dishes. He recommended the chicken kebap in particular. I elected to follow his suggestion. Over the course of the evening, we learned a good deal about Kusadasi, Turkey, and of Sahin himself. As is his gentlemanly way, he treated us each (my friend and I) to a single red rose, which made for a lovely cap to a wonderful evening of dining.
The ambiance is one thing -- it's eclectic, being street-side, and a busy side-street at that, along with great charm, ambiance, entertaining hosts and great food!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Efes (which is a regular haunt for a good many British expatsin Kusadasi... with loads of British fare on the menu, btw, along with great Turkish dishes), and made a new friend in Sahin. A trip to the restaurant will make for a most entertaining and enjoyable evening. Enjoy!
