Reviewed October 3, 2012

Apartments are clean and spacious, pool is good size plenty of beds available, we ate at the restaurant three times, we were there for one week, good evening entertainment, dj played all song requests, friendly staff, beach is a 10 minute stroll, lovely sandy beach with watercsports available. Queens reaturant serves good food and staff friendly, we also ate at the fizz bar. Side centre is 25 minutes walk away with plenty of bars and restaurants. We had a great holiday

This was mine and my boyfriends first holiday together and we were dead nervous about going away, especially after reading the reviews.... But I am so glad we picked Melissa Gardens!!

For all the typical non-cultural english customers that were forgetting that they are not in the UK anymore - the staff were amazing and they deffenatly made our holiday, they are extremely friendly and love having a laugh with the customers but because some British people are so narrow minded they think they mistake playfulness and banter for flirting with our children - which I can assure you wasn't the case!!! And as for being pushed in the pool, it was a laugh and they were more than happy to be pushed in aswel.

Please do not be put off by the nasty reviews these people clearly think they can get 5* for a 3* price - but the staff were 5* and would do anything for you.

We are planning on going back in May and consider the Melissa Garden Staff close friends!!

P.S you must try Antonia's special cocktail along with a pink lady cocktail!!

Returned from Turkey yesterday - 21st September 2012 after a stay of 10 days. First impressions were that Denis on reception was very pleasant and helpful, however, the reception area itself was very unimpressive - was very small and shabby compared to other hotels in the area - not very inspiring at all. We had asked for a quiet room overlooking the pool. Got the pool view ok but the room was right over the bar and was so noisy we had a sleepless first night. Fortunately we were able to change rooms so a little bit quieter but not much!!!! Very poor facilities in both rooms for self catering. Hardly any cutlery, crockery or cooking utensils!!!! Very suspect kettle and small hob with two rings. The chopping board was so ingrained with dirt on both sides - woudn't prepare pet food on it!!!!! Shower not working properly and countless light bulbs needed replacing. The bedding was very clean. Self-catering in my opinion does not mean that you have to hire a toaster or beg a pan from the maid which appears to be the norm in these apartments!! The fridge was so bad even cooked meats went 'off' in it. Food and drinks just never felt cool enough. Also - take sink plugs with you as none of the sinks had any - we had to wash up in a large saucepan!!!! Don't forget to take a tea towel either as this is also not provided. There is only one air con unit in each apartment - this is situated in the living area and not in the bedroom where it is most needed at night. In my opinion, the staff made a positive difference to our holiday experience. Bar and pool staff were always very helpful and their English was certainly better than my Turkish!!!. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced, we ate there most nights. We discovered after we had had one, that the Turkish bath at the Melissa Garden was the most expensive in the area. A fabulous experience but don't be pressured into having one there - try somewhere else - there are plenty around. Thomas Cook holiday reps were also a big disappointment. Didn't mention how far the beach was and that there was a section of the beach for use by Melissa Garden guests (at a price) or that there was a lovely promanade that you could walk along all the way to Side. More interested in selling excursions than giving useful informatiion. This was our first holiday in Turkey and we did have a lovely holiday as we were happy to go out and about to the markets which was a fantastic experience, and Side itself is a charming, unspoilt small harbour town with lovely little shops and bars. Turkish ice cream is delicious too. We would go back to Turkey again but not to this accommodation - it's all inclusive in future - that seems to be a much better deal and having talked to other holiday makers the hotels are of a much higher standard than the apartments at Melissa Garden.

After reading the reviews on this site we were very sceptical about Melissa gardens before we arrived. We arrived at 4.30am the last drop off and when we turned up we had to enter via a little passageway in between two shops.
When got to reception we were a party of 7 with two appartments however they didn't have the booking for a second appartment and wanted to put us all into one. At 4.30 after a long flight all you wanted to do was sleep. The bloke on reception found us another appartment and then that's where all the problems finished. The staff couldn't have been more helpful if they tried nothing you asked them was too much trouble.
Some people on here say that they are pervy and having two young girls in our group we didn't see any of that. One of the staff made a flower out of serviettes and wouldn't give it to the younger one so shows that they are not all after the young children. It's the turkish nature to favour children and touch their hair and face, they don't mean anything by it at all so maybe people need to realise that before throwing accusations about. The staff really were great, getting into the pool in the afternoons and dancing in the evenings.
Apart from a little noise at night when in the appartments that over looked the road and shops the noise level was fine.
The pool area is lovely and the pool is all one depth which isn't too deep.
Only criticism really would be the appartments could be slightly cleaner and need a bit of tlc but we literally only used them to sleep in. They are very basic but do the job, you get what you pay for at the end of the day. Turkish night in the appartments is good, the food is superb. We didn't get any hassle of the staff to go to their functions at all.
As for local restaurants we ate at the queens and golden fizz both of which were fine no problems.
We will be returning to melissa gardens next year without fail, the owners are doing some work within the complex over the next year to improve the facilities and make at least 4 apartments fully accessible for disabled people.

Four of us stayed here and enjoyed our holiday!! The rooms were very clean and the staff were excellent. Air-con was a definate and worked well. Self-catering facilities basic but fine. The cleaners worked with a smile even finding us on the last day as we had left something in our room. The bar/pool staff couldnt do enough for you, working long hours and keeping their smile. They made our son Andys holiday more fun ( especially Rodney and Elvis). Helping him with his dancing!! All the bar staff made an effort for you, so you enjoyed your stay. The pools were clean and a good size, having fun, staff pushed you in for a cool only if you wanted too though! and when we ate there we had no problems with the food. The hotel supermarket was close by and he was very friendly and made us feel at home. The bars around the hotel were good too. The Golden Fizz and Lindas, food, staff and welcoming was excellent. The beach was near and Ali made sure we had a bed to relax on. We would visit again without hesitation. Teşekkür Ederim :)

We got there on a Monday - 39 deg.C - air-con not working. It took til Friday to fix!! No alternative room offered (small refund given). Noise from outside was dreadful - on a very busy main road and rave bar next door - music blaring til the early hours. Room was shabby, especially the bathroom, cracked sink and bath. I know that other reviews are reasonable but we had a very bad experience there - you have been warned! Some of the service was not bad in the restaurant though.

Room Tip: If at the front of the hotel demand one in the very rear block!! They look newer and may be quiter.

As this was my first holiday with just my friends, I was extremely nervous but everyone was so welcoming, it put me straight at ease! All the staff were fantastic! Cobra, Mao, Alex, Elvis, Kaya and Dennis are some of the best hotel staff I have ever met, they work extremely long hours but are always smiling and never fail to entertain. We spent many nights drinking with Moa until the very early hours and he never complained once, just danced and laughed with us.
For a self-catering holiday, everything was there that you needed!
The food at Melissa Gardens was always freshly made and tasted incredible (with no bugs!), we ended up eating there most nights. Some nights, entertainment was also given such as fire shows, Turkish dancing, a belly dancer and even Bingo!
As for the comment saying that staff were causing issues between children, during the day around the pool, all I ever saw was the staff encouraging the children to play together and share the toys they had.
As for the surrounding bars, me and my friends spent most of our nights at the Golden Fizz. Eddie, Bob, Jimmy, Cha Cha, Jacob, Osmen, Ramazan and Adem always made the night super fun! Drinks were decently priced for the amount of alcohol that was actually put into them, and the food there was also delicious. We spent many nights watching the sunrise at the Golden Fizz and was the highlight of my holiday!
The beach is not even a 5 minute walk from the hotel and is absolutely stunning! We ate at Fantasia bar one night, which is situated right on the beach and we were served good food.

Couldn't recommend Melissa Gardens more! Already planning next year!!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms in Melissa Gardens 2 are quieter as the bar in Melissa Gardens 1 plays music until early hours
