“Not a 5 star hotel”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

The hotel is very noisy, having a bad isolation of the rooms, the maids are also very noisy cleaning the other rooms, if you want to sleep during the day it's almost impossible having a constant banging all day long. We have a small child almost 2 years old who need to sleep during the day. They changed our room, but after 2 days of going to reception desk even in the night because of the noise coming from other rooms, our neighbours were some party young boys. The staff in the reception desk need a strong training. Either don't speak English, either, if they do, they are impolite, they change our room finally but with the air that they've made some charity with us. Also, we needed a late check-out, the departure hour was 2.10 in the morning and the normal check-out as everybody knows is at 12.00, it was impossible to stay with a baby almost 12 hour without a room to sleep, to change, etc. When I asked them, they avoid to give us a solution, they've said that we have to ask them in the morning of the departure day if is possible, but they don't promise anything. Even the Complain Manger gave us the same answer. We've called Neckerman, our tour-operator, they called to reception and the solution came: we pay 30 euro and we have the room till the pick up time. We were happy with this solution, but it came from our tour-operator, not from the reception desk of the hotel. I wonder why they could not give us this solution from the beginning.
If you are travelling with small babies/pushchairs, the hotel is not friendly at all, you have to change many lifts and still remains a lot of stairs to go the beach or if want to have a walk to Side. (The promenade alley it's along the beach).
Talking about the good sides, I would mention the food, a big variety, everything fresh and tasty.
The cleaning of the rooms and of the hotel overall, even if the hotel is not a 5 star, so don't expect a luxurious hotel but a clean one.
A good animation program in some nights
The beach and the sea in front of the hotel, very friendly for children, the sand is fine and the level of the sea is small on a long distance from the beach.
Overall, a low price-quality ratio.

We arrived early hours of morning to be put in a room that the air conditioning never worked which made it difficult for my 11 month baby to sleep they said they would send an engineer the next morning which did but only with a screwdriver in his hand. We demanded another room and then they swapped. The safety box come up with an error and when I called reception the said the can only send someone in the morning again made another complaint as it had my child's medication in it. When asking for extra water for mini bar to clean my baby's bottles they said that will be extra. When asking for toilet paper they didn't give so we landed up putting it in our safety box to get more. The lifts in this hotel don't stop on the floors so if you have a buggie you need two people to travel through the hotel as you need to go up or down stairs to get to the lifts, these also includes going to the beach bar. This was very stressful and unpleasant. The food timetable they give you is wrong they don't serve snacks 13:00-16:00 and 23:00-24:00 at the pool bar. The spa wellness centre white uniform people are awful always trying to sell you packages and if you not interested they are rude. It is impossible to get a sunbed because the lifeguard takes tips they do a special handshake we saw a lady giving him 20 euros they do the same thing in the resturant for the tables that have the sea view. The staff all seem to understand German but if you English they ignore you. The entertainment the first two nights were awful it was live music where couples were dancing closely to lady in red. Not really appropriate for an 8 year old. Only half through our stay did the entertainment team tell us we can go to the village were there is better entertainment. To me it's all about them getting tips it's unfair as we had spent a lot of money already to have a lovely family holiday. Please don't book this hotel if you have small children the accessibility is dreadful and there are no baby changing facilities you have to change your baby on the floor which is very unhygienic. We did complain to our rep Dani her response was we are the first people to say anything which I find extremely hard to believe as there were many British family's complaining. I will never go back to his hotel and I don't recommend it. I am very disappointed as the minute I arrived there I wanted to come back home.

Back from Side Turkey over a week ago. Wish we were back. Beautiful hotel, fantastic room, nicely decorated. Very clean throughout, chamber maids great. Food was amazing so much choice and all delicious. Staff fantastic ,very professional, friendly and extremely hard working, particularly Poolside attendants, Chefs, Chamber maids and the Animation team. beach side was great too, with lovely cool foot wash and showers and beach snack bar. Didn't use the a-la-cart restaurants as the main restaurant was too good to leave! Had some amazing treatments in the spa too.
Loved it. Can't wait to go back.

This was my second visit to the Melas Resort Hotel. The Hotel has seen a lot of changes to when I was last here and they certainly aren't all good. The rooms are very nice with the walk in shower topping them off. The reception area is also kept very clean, the pool is nice and the entertainment staff friendly. That's about it for the positives. Lets start with the sun loungers by the pool. There's a clear notice leading out the pool area that says no towels to be place on sun loungers before 7.30am. We had to set our alarms to enable us to get down to the loungers by 7.15am to ensure we got two together. The pool attendants were taking money from other hotel guests to reserve sun loungers and place towels on them so by the time we got there most of the loungers had gone. We saw this happen most mornings and so did other English guests at the hotel we spoke to. We reported this to our rep, who strangely said, "I've not heard that before", enough said about her. Then we had the mini bar or should they call it the mini bare!! We had to phone reception to get someone to replenish it when we did drink the two half cans of lager in it. Reception informed us that the standard was two cans in the mini bar so they either can't count or they don't maintain their own standard. Then we had the fiasco of the tea/coffee facilities in the room. Two adult guests in our room and they didn't leave enough tea/coffee cream for one. The minimum they should leave is four, two cups at night and two in the morning for two guests. Again this was brought up with the rep when after the room being cleaned the tea/coffee had not been replenished at all. The rep told us she would speak to the hotel, when we returned to our room later that day we didn't have enough to make one cup of tea. Again more phone calls to reception, this time they gave us enough which is what everyone should get anyway. The attitude of the hotel staff with the exception of a few is appalling. They look miserable, often blatantly ignore you when you are waiting to be served and everything looks like too much trouble for them. The evening entertainment with the exception of a couple of nights is useless and the couple that do the Sunday evening live music are embarrassingly poor. This was just as well as we had to get to bed early to get up for the early shift, sorry sun loungers. To sum up this hotel I would say bitterly disappointed. I came back as I'd had such a good time previously but it's so different now. I will definitely not go back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The hotel looks very luxurious and is very clean. The room/shower room was lovely.
The staff were very laid back in that they continued doing the task they started even though they knew you were waiting to be seen or served.
I had to contact reception on three occasions for them to replenish the tea bags. The receptionist asked if we had tea in our room everyday? What a silly question. I also mentioned it to the rep but it still took over a day for extra tea bags to appear.
The mini bar contained two half cans of beer, two bottles of water, one bottle of fanta and cola. I nearly forgot two small bottles of sprite. The statement 'mini bar' was correct.
The food was average but very much the same each day.
We had to set the alarm on holiday for 7am to take the towels to the sunbeds to ensure we got two even though the rules stated you were not to put towels on the sunbeds until 7.30 am. If you went to the pool at 7.30 am you just might get two together. I was tired having to get up so early. I just couldn't get my head round how so many beds were taken so early and that the lifeguards didn't impose their own rules.
I must say that the entertainment staff were friendly.
I certainly would not recommend this hotel and the standard is not five but three star.
My one word to sum up this hotel is mean.

Have just got back from a lovely week at the melas hotel, beautiful rooms we stayed in 1808 looking over the mountains it was very modern and spacious with a lovely wet room, maids came and cleaned the room and changed the towels every day.air conditioning was great as was needed with temperatures at 45 degrees.the whole hotel was so clean and tidy, with some beautiful lighting and features.staff were really friendly and helpful especially the two waiters sebahattin fartli and sinan made us feel so welcome.will definately be going back.my only problem was not being able to get a bed by the pool, but the beach was just as good with beach bar close so did not have to go back to hotel for lunch. missing it already.had a wonderful time

Room Tip: rooms opposite the mountains on top floor very quiet

I have reported on the Melas Resorted twice before and feel that all I need to do is update you on the facts. Over the last year the management and owners have carried out major alterations to further improve the hotel. Massive amounts of money have been spent on improving what was a brilliant hotel. On arrival the reception has been moved to a more convenient position which makes it easier to book yourselves in. Having been shown to our room 1805 (top floor) and being early hours in the morning we were not sure where we had been placed. As the sun rose and we opened the balcony doors we found ourselves on the top floor over the main entrance with a beautiful view overlooking the mountains. The whole area is spectacular. There has been a major renovation to the rooms and all the carpets have been removed and replaced with laminate flooring. Walls completely repainted and fixtures and fittings greatly improved. The old shower units have been replaced with wet floor showers and power shower. All new carpets in all the corridors and access lighting improved.
Now to the staff. Most of those that we knew from our last two visits had unfortunately gone and where replaced by others. Needless to say, they were impeccable in their appearance and the standard of service was second to none. We soon made friends with many of them who after a couple of days looked after us well and attended to our every need. It was soon apparent that they wanted to make our stay the best ever, and we were not to be disappointed. Room service is excellent and the room maid works extremely hard to ensure your rooms are kept to a high standard. Mini bare is topped up every day and if you require more than what s supplied just ask.
The pool area has not changed, nor has the beach. There are plenty of sun beds at both locations. A word of caution! At the pool area there is a temperature reading displaying time, humidity and of course the temperature. The temperature reading is well out to where it may show 30 degrees in fact we were able to show that the real temperature at the poolside was 37 degrees, this is important if you are a new arrival.
July and August is the time when many Russians and of course the Germans take their holidays so be prepared for some ignorance from some people but generally most of the Germans are polite. Russians do not queue, so be firm and point hem in the right direction and they will get the message.
There are several places to visit and I will be completing a trip advisor report on the following shops, restaurants and places. OTTOMAN RESTAURANT, NAR JEWELLERY, LEATHERGOODS FROM LEHRER TASCHE and APLLO’S TEMPLE so take a look it will be to your advantage.
Well I will sum up by saying that the Hotel was excellent, food excellent, staff excellent, facilities excellent. Well done Thomas Cook please keep this hotel on the books as it is well worth the money we spent.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor above the main entrance 1805/1807. Rooms with a view every morning and night.
