We have just returned from a fantastic two week holiday at the Barut Hemera. Check-in was quick and pleasant and we were showed to our room which had a great view from the balcony over the main pools, gardens and the sea. The room was spacious, clean and came with all the usual toiletries plus a kettle with a selection of teas (various fruit ones as well as breakfast) and coffee. There is a mini bar which is restocked daily and includes two bottle of Efes malt beer, a bottle of Coca Cola, two bottles of sparkling water, a larger bottle of still water plus a couple of cartons of fruit juice. Our room also had a plug-in mosquito repellent which came in very handy. We found a beach bag on our bed upon arrival with a couple of hotel beach towels. These can be replaced at no charge from the small kiosk near the pool bar. The beach bag is a great idea. There are a few pools plus the hotel has its own beach. We regularly used the beach and the quieter pool near the Olive restaurant as there was never any problem getting a sun lounger. That said, the main pool area had plenty of spaces but it just wasn't for us. The grounds are beautiful and well tended and in the shaded areas towards the beach, there are a number of loungers and beds available.
Facilities are great. The fitness studio has everything you need from cardio machines to free weights. My wife used the spa three times for a Turkish bath and massages and found it to be cheaper and more effective than visits to the osteopath back in the UK. There are two tennis courts and a mini golf too.
The food choices were absolutely brilliant. The main buffet restaurant has a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. There are lots of Turkish dishes to try which was great. We both were very impressed and pretty much enjoyed everything we tried. There is a waiter service for drinks which is quick and reliable at lunch and dinner, however, depending upon where you sit, it can take a while to be asked if you want coffee which is our only gripe. We managed to dine at all of the à la carte restaurants - you book through a touchscreen machine next to Guest Relations just in front of the Lobby Bar. Maybe we were lucky as I have read that not everybody could get in. Our favourite two were the Olive and the Akdeniz International restaurants. Service at both was top notch, your glasses are always full. The food at both was delicious, as it was at other eateries on site. The Hanimeli Patisserie had a great choice of cakes, pastries and biscuits as well as ice cream.
The bars are all fine and we didn't have any problems getting served and most of the time, didn't have to wait. In the evenings though at the pool bar, the entertainment of a trio singing outdated songs (usual easy listening dross) meant we moved on to somewhere else. We didn't see any of the shows which take place at the beach bar as it's not really our thing. The lobby bar near reception is open 24 hours too.
What we liked was that everything was all inclusive. We had our first experience of all inclusive in Fuerteventura April and thought it was good however it was not a patch on the Hemera. Here, everything is all inclusive. The safe in your room is free, Wi-Fi is free and works everywhere, beach towels are free etc.
Side town centre is about a 30 minute walk along the prom with a number of places to stop off for a drink on the way - a bar called Lime was really good. Opposite the entrance of the hotel on the main road are several shops all selling the same things plus a few chemists, restaurants and a cash machine. You can catch the Dolmus into Side and Manavgat straight outside the hotel - 2 lira to Side, 3 to Manavgat one way.
We had a brilliant time at the Hemera and from now on, I think we will always compare any other hotels to this one. It was our first visit to Turkey and we really enjoyed the area, visiting several places by bus. We found the local people to be very friendly and honest and will definitely be returning to the country in the future.
