“Great value, great location friendly hotel”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We would definitely recommend this hotel and Side.
Returned home on 24/08/13 from 2 weeks at the Cennett. This was our 2nd stay here and we weren't disappointed.

Rooms are basic but cleaned daily and spacious enough for 2 adults and a 9 yr old.
Lots of nice freebies - food and bottled water on arrival after a long night flight, beech bag, beech towels, wifi (hit and miss), free room safe, air-con, toiletries, free sunbeds on the lovely clean beech, free sunbeds and cushions around the pool.
Hotel even delivered a free bottle of wine and bowl of fruit on my Husbands birthday :-)

There was plenty of choice for evening meal with at least 5 choices plus lots of sides and salads. Wednesday evenings were Gala or Turkish night, both very nice and speciality meals. Variety was so good that none of these meals were repeated in the 2 weeks we stayed.
There were free drinks galour with your meals - wine, beer, soft drinks, water and juices and these were not restricted to one glass each ;-)

There were various daytime activities - yoga, beech volleyball, tennis, water polo etc.
Evening entertainment was a kids disco ( aimed at the young ones, songs mainly in German but they all loved it ) followed by a small variety/cabaret show - including a Leather show lol

We had a late return flight after a noon checkout. We didn't extend the room as the hotel offer a private shower facility. There are 2 showers, toilet , changing room, free towels, sink & hairdryer all with air con. There was plenty of room for us all to get showered and changed in comfort.

Room Tip: 1st floor ( 201 - 205) 2nd floor ( 301 -305 ) all have excellent sea views and nice balcony Ground...

Stayed at cennet 16th August for one week . Cennet pronounced Jennet is officially a 3 * . Hotel has both good and bad points you get a card instead of using cash upon check in which you use to pay for food and drink etc then pay the bill daily or at the end of your stay you get beach towels too br it costs to change them. Pool are was lovely and very refreshing in the August heat. The pool bar man ( I'm so sorry I e forgotten your name) is lovely with a smile for everyone and always happy to help. Main restraunt was a little chaotic to begin with it but you get used to sharing your table and eating with complete strangers amazingly quickly.the food for me was ok but no so good for the children. We were lucky sitting on the edge I would have gated to be seated in the middle. The rooms are ok but very dated we had third floor and the air con packed up after a day. Maintenance fixed it daily by wiping it with a cloth and turning it off and on which got it going for 10 mins max and then generally it rained all over the beds and packed in. Minibar is chargeable in the room and the shower is a nughtmare with fluctuating water temperature . Balcony furniture is flimsy plastic and not good. Gorgeous cool cotton sheets and firm beds. All in all ok for a weeks break .

The hotel is officially named "Barut Cennet & Acanthus". Cennet is a 3 star, Acanthus is a 4 star hotel. We stayed at Cennet and think that it deserves 4 stars. We booked a standard room, but asked for separated beds, so we got upgraded with no charge to an apartment with 2 rooms and a kitchenette (great!). We had half board which was really enough for us, because the breakfast and dinner buffet was full of many delicious meals and snacks :). The beach was AWESOME. If I have to mention one negative thing then it is the wireless internet. Unfortunately there is no free wi-fi in the whole hotel area, but just on some points (reception f.ex.). It should be better if they offer internet in the whole area, on the beach as well, since many guests use their smartphones etc. Service was great (Barut group is known for it). Mostly the guests are Germans, but there also various other nationalities, i.e. a good mix.

Room Tip: ask for an apartment next to the pool

We chose the Cennet as it was one of the few hotels where we not compelled to stay on an all inclusive basis - we drink very little other than water through the day & eat enough at breakfast time to keep us going until evening meal - therefore all inclusive would be wasted on us! When we arrived at Side on a Thomas Cook package we were the 6th drop off and the previous 5 hotels were absolutely massive - reminiscent of some on the Las Vegas Strip, some were positively Disney-like!!! When we eventually arrived at the Acanthus/Cennet we were dropped off at the roadside as the hotel doesn't like coaches dropping off on site at night due to the possible disturbance to guests. We had to register at the shared reception based in the Acanthus & then accompanied to our room by a very helpful bell boy who explained the free air conditioning and free safe. A supper had been left in the room which was extremely welcome after a half day of travelling. It is no exaggeration to say that the food at the Cennet was the best we have ever had in a hotel - the Royal Kenz in Tunisia is the only one that comes close. I consider the Acanthus Cennet to be the best located hotel in Side as it is on the promenade & therefore beside the sea with its own large beach space & free sun beds & umbrellas - mattresses are for hire at 5 Turkish Lira each for the day.The beach is very safe & has a blue flag for cleanliness.
It is a half an hour stroll into Side centre so it is close enough to be convenient but far away enough to be quiet and relaxing. The staff were superb & facilities were excellent. The only reason I have given a rating of 4 rather than 5 stars is because we had a bathroom that was in need of refurbishment - it was kept very clean & we always had hot water & clean towels but the bathroom decor needs some TLC.We were in block 4 which is probably the next to be given a face lift but we think that this is of less importance as we spend nearly all our time out of the room anyway.
We had the added bonus of free drinks with our evening meal - my partner had 3 glasses of red wine & fizzy water most evenings & I had either rose or white wine but we could have had beer or soft drinks. It is true that Side is predominantly a German/Scandinavian resort but that didn't bother us , in fact it meant that it was very peaceful & civilized - the major effect is that the majority of prices are written in Euros.
I cannot imagine that we could have had a better holiday in Side if we had stayed at any of the massive 5* resort hotels.
This is our 4th Turkish holiday (including one in Northern Cyprus) & we have enjoyed every one. If we decide to return to Side then we would definitely stay at the Cennet. Thanks & well done to everyone concerned.

Room Tip: Cennet garden rooms vary in size. Ours was on the ground floor which was convenient.

First trip to Turkey and found people to be very helpful, kind and trustworthy. The staff at the Cennet/Acanthus do their best to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible, despite the language problems. There is only one reception, at the Acanthus, so if you are staying at the Cennet make sure someone shows you to your room. You can use the air-conditioned lounge of the Acanthus. They each have their own dining rooms, open-air, over-looking the beach. Very picturesque although of course very hot in July/August. Food selection is excellent and there is a gala dinner one night a week. There is also an a-la-carte area with different food near the beach. I thoroughly recommend eating here too. Apparently one night is included here for 'all inclusive' guests.

Air conditioning in the room works very well. Beds firm but comfortable. Massage parlour/reflexology is highly recommended for service and prices which are very reasonable. You could also treat yourself to a more luxurious spa at a nearby hotel (leaflets at cennet) where you can have turkish massage with bubbles - amazing - and still cheaper than England.

Gift of beach bag which was very useful. Towels available to use on beach. Swimming pool (and sea) warm this time of year. Always found sunbeds there and very clean and pretty gardens. About 30% of guests were English. You can ask at poolbar for free blue cushions for sunbeds by pool. Poolbar staff very friendly. Spent a lot of time in the shade there as temperatures about 40degrees.

Took Thomson trip to Troy Waterpark and Dolphin show which we all enjoyed. Might just do the waterpark another time to keep cost down.

Night entertainment was fine although I found the music for the kids disco every night too loud and a bit dated but I think the younger children loved it.

Sea was clean and safe and warm except that out at the rope there are some bits with seaweed on that can give you a rash if you touch it. Various watersports and boat trips available nearby.

Good idea to have some Turkish Lira, some Euros and use the hotel card for most refreshments there.

Overall, for a three star resort at a very reasonable price, it was a beautiful setting, good food and a very relaxing, safe week.
