“Fabulous, luxurious place to unwind!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This was our first experience of an all inclusive holiday. We were not disappointed. The cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding - there was always someone clearning, somewhere. The food was fantastic and there was an abundance of it freshly cooked during the opening hours of the buffet lunch, dinner and breakfast. There was plenty of choice - I really cannot imagine anyone not being able to find food they like. The facilities were the best including the beach section where you were still treated to excellent food and waiter service for drinks. The sun beds were well spaced out and comfortable. We would certainly go back again and again and again....

Room Tip: At the moment there is buidling work going on at each side of the hotel. We were ok on our side as...

Review – Commodore Elite, Side, Turkey

A luxury holiday in the sunshine for our anniversary in mid-October 2012.

Reception/Check In

Was quick and easy – the reception staff gave us a run-down of where things were (buffets, pool towels, etc) and our all-inclusive wrist bands. We had champagne, and the bell-men took our luggage to our room, whilst another took us up to our room (on the 4th floor – 6502) – and showed us how to use the air-con, safe, explained the mini bar (restocked daily with soft drinks/beer/water). There was also a kettle with tea/coffee.

Room

We had a view of the front of the hotel (so not looking at the pool/beach which is at the back). Was spacious – plenty of drawers and cupboard space. Separate wc, sink and double shower. Bed was very comfortable. Room cleaned daily and towels changed – housekeeping also made ‘swans and hearts’ out of our towels and night-clothes. Balcony with table and 2 chairs, and a small wall-mounted airer to hang out your rinsed bathers.

All-Inclusive

Was brilliant – 24 hours – there are 2 buffet restaurants – Sunrise (floor –2) for breakfast and lunch, and Sunset for dinner (floor –1). The food was excellent, plenty of choice and kept nicely hot or chilled. There was always something to eat outside too – which was different to what was displayed inside. We also ate in Gusto for our anniversary, which is one of the al la carte restaurants – these can be booked at the on-screen panels in the reception area (near the toilets) or with ‘guest relations’ by reception. The Bistro bar was open from 3pm to 7am – so you can always get something to eat and drink. There is also the Sweet Dreams café for ice-cream, tea, coffee and pastries – this was open 10am to 5pm. Carlsberg lager and branded spirits were also part of the all-inclusive.

Staff

Although their English was limited, they were always very friendly and helpful and eager to please. They appreciated tips (should you want to express your thanks for good service). They surprised us with champagne and a heart-shaped cake in our room on our anniversary too, which was a nice touch and much appreciated.

Hotel/Pool

Opened I believe in May 2012 – it was immaculate, clean, spacious and very peaceful as it is Adults only. It wasn’t crowded at all, and there was always plenty of free sun-beds around the pool. We didn’t find the beds around the pool too close together – and you can obviously move them about to suit your needs in any case!. Soft drinks and water was provided in fridges around the pools. The water temperature of all the pools was quite chilly, but it was ‘alright once you were in’!. This was the same for the indoor pool. We didn’t use the spa at all – only to collect the pool towels, where you swapped your towel card for a towel each. The manager did give us a guided tour of the spa, and explained the Turkish bath treatment (chargeable). A steam room and sauna were free to use.

Beach Area

This was adults only too – it had a bar and did BBQ lunches with salads. Although we didn’t sit on the beach, there was plenty of sun-beds.

Local Area

The hotel is in Evrenseki – about 10K from Side – we did walk ‘the road route’ to Side – it took us 3 ½ hours – so not for the faint-hearted in the Turkish sunshine. You can always get the Dolmus bus for 1.50 euros – they dropped you on the main road near to your hotel. Each bus displayed which hotels they went to, or you can always wave your all-inclusive wrist band at the driver to show them where you are heading for. Side itself was bustling, cobbled streets, and plenty of Roman ruins to see.

We also did a trip with our holiday company, a river cruise from Manavgat, with lunch, outdoor and indoor markets, and then the waterfalls at Manavgat– well worth the £30 for a whole day out. The guide on the coach was brilliant too.

Would thoroughly recommend the Commodore Elite.

Room Tip: There are some rooms with direct access to a shared infinity pool, but these seemed to in the shade...

I was a little bit wary of traveling it turkey before we went, but it had such good reviews I thought I'd give it a go...and am I glad I did. My main concern was the food, but I can not fault it at all, it was outstanding. Each night is a different theme in the main buffet, which if not booked into one of the three al a carte, makes a nice change from the usual hotel Buffet dull food that is usually offered in big hotels. It really was great. Fresh food, hot (which again is usually not the case) and always being refreshed whatever time you arrive.
Water is available in fridges by the pool areas which is a great idea.
There is a hardworking gentleman who runs around the pool all day asking if you want a drink, gave him a tip as he was very friendly and nothing was too much. Maybe get him some help though hotel management-I did feel a little sorry for him.
The restaurants are fab, and to a very high standard.
I just loved it here and would definitely return. If anyone reading this is also unsure of Turkey, please just give it a try and is sure you'll love it also!

Room Tip: Book a suite, the standard rooms are a little small.

We recently went to the Commodore Elite as we wanted an adults only, good quality all inclusive hotel and that is what we got.
For some strange reason, flights from Scotland are scheduled to arrive early in the morning and we got to the hotel about 0230. Despite this we got a warm welcome and there was a choice of hot meals available throughout the night.
Our suite was excellent with plenty of space and very comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the pools.
The food was absolutely fantastic whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner and on 2 nights we went to the A la Carte restaurants which again were terrific,
There was a cafe/ice cream parlour which was open till 5 pm and we certainly made full use of that.
For those who like the beach, all the hotels have big areas in front where the have plenty of parasols and loungers in front of a bar which provided a small selection of food for those who did not want to go back to the main hotel. The staff were very attentive here and were always coming round with drinks and iced towels which were great. The sea temperature was actually higher than in the pool which made it great for strolling along the beach with the water just lapping your feet.
The negatives were the evening entertainment didn't start till 9.30 and was not always very good. One night it was 2 DJs who just played music all night and never spoke. A bit boring.
The other main negative was that not all the staff spoke English and my Turkish is non existent.
They all spoke very good German and as there were more of them than us, they appeared to get slightly better treatment.
Would I go back? Possibly! It was great to be in a good hotel with no kids and the food was to die for, but I don't think it was good enough to make me return rather than try somewhere new.
One point I would like to make is that we should always remember that these hotels are for tourists on holiday and therefore should not be compared to normal 5* hotels which are a lot more expensive.
One last bit of advice, if you visit the old Side do not be tempted to get the water taxi which takes you back to your hotel. It turned out that this was an old boat that took about an hour and a half to get us there and then it stopped well off shore and we had to jump into a small dinghy which took us to about 50 metres from the beach where we had to quickly jump into the water and wade ashore in our normal clothes. All the people who were swimming etc looked at us as if we had lost our heads.

Just got back from 1 week at the Commodore Elite - AND LOVED IT!
Not sure what other reviewers expect!!
Yes the local wine isn't the best; and yes it appears construction is about to start next to the hotel. The food is EXCELLENT! - the quality and quantity is out-standing. In 1 buffet I could choose (or have all!) 2 soups, salad, sauté veal, turkey snitzel, roast meat, plenty of sea food, potatoes, rice etc. etc. etc. etc. The quality is excellent!. I think people are rating too harsh when they down grade their rating based on 'not good wine' or 'not luxurious enough'. This was VERY good value for money especially if you make use of the activities i.e. sun beds, belly dance classes, aerobics, gym, billiards etc. etc. I could not find another hotel in this area with a significantly higher rating on trip advisor without spending a heck of a lot of more cash. You will not be disappointed!. Our first visit to Turkey; though we have previously stayed in all inclusive worldwide - this was great. The nightime entertainment is rather cheesy (makes you laugh) and the a la carte only fail because they do not exceed the fantastic level of the buffet. Book here and enjoy!

Just returned from 7 days at the Commodore Elite on 20th October 2012.

Overall the accommodation is fairly nice, but it is not 5* more like UK 3*. Being a fairly new hotel this hotel is clean and modern and you cannot fault these.

Service - greeted by sparkling wine, which was a nice touch but didn't taste great. Staff overall OK and fairly friendly. Bar staff bring drinks round to loungers throughout the day.

Rooms - originally in a Elite non sea view room on ground floor facing other hotel. Asked to me moved to another room as both hotels on either side are under construction so noisy/dusty. Had to pay extra 98 Euros for the week but got an Elite sea view room. Sun-loungers and table and chairs on the balcony. The bed/bathroom set up was slightly odd as you walk into the bathroom and then through to the bedroom there is no separate bathroom as such. Beds were much more comfortable than expected.

Location - beach front, good views, small beach areas, each hotel has a section of the beach, slightly cramped. Didn't spend much time on the beach. The hotel is small in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in Turkey. Very little to do outside the hotel except other hotels, very close together along the beach.

Food - looks a lot nice than it tastes, Lots of little canapes etc at meal times, which look lovely but reality is they don't taste that great, Not that much variety from day to day despite themed nights. Two a la carte restaurants are just a bit fancier than the main restaurant with 5 courses!
There is a cafe that serves afternoon tea and ice-cream which was a nice touch and also fridges around the pool to help yourself to water/soft drinks etc which is a great idea and saves having to queue at the bar.

Holiday was very relaxing and the weather was mid 30s everyday, overall a good holiday but will not be visiting or recommending the Commodore Elite which is a great shame as we had high hopes.

Room Tip: Elite Sea Room are best value for money. Extra for a suite not worth they additional charges.

Our two weeks of adult relaxation ended on 13 October. I'd like to have said 'luxury'. It wasn't quite, but it was very enjoyable. It was our sixth visit to a 5* Antalya hotel, so we can make comparisons.

What has Commodore Elite got very right? The food, most definitely. Choice, quality, presentation, variety, taste. Yes, some of it was over-cooked, but you expect that with a buffet. We also enjoyed the two a la carte restaurants, preferring the mediterranean Gusto. Lots of tables-for-two, and well-spaced out so dining was always a pleasure. Oh, except we found it a little dark on the outside terrace in the evening. And the covered outside area for breakfast and lunch was very welcome.

The bed and bedding was also superb... deep, firm mattress... soft, full pillow... lovely bed linen. All made for a very good sleep.

And very wrong? The so-called "local sparkling wine"... vile... undrinkable. Fizzy apple juice laced with petrol!

And the towel system... so strict... exchange card for towel in the morning and towel for card in late afternoon. Woe betide you if you try and exchange your towels in the morning!

The room size and hotel design were both disappointing, but soon became inconsequential. And the evening entertainment was also lacking, but I guess it was commensurate with the hotel size.

We had no problems being served drinks anywhere... indeed, the staff soon got to know our favoured tipples. We even had "our" table set up with our lunchtime drinks towards the end.

And no problems with sunbeds. Plenty to go round. No mattress, but at least they didn't tip up when you got off them like some others we've had. And the poolside music was very much in the background.

Nice touches... free beach bag, nice and roomy; frozen flannels handed out on the beach; socket inside the room safe... useful for charging up devices while you're out! And a flyscreen on the balcony door, and self-closing drawers and doors. But take heed... no hair conditioner with the toiletries!

If you're thinking of staying here, keep an eye on reports of any building works on the east-facing side... the portakabins arrived while we were there!

Overall, a lovely chilled-out holiday... especially without the younger ones!

Room Tip: High floor always a winner!
