First of all, I want to say that I do not really know about the turkish standards for rating hotels. We traveled with the norwegian travel agency Ving, which is rating this hotel at 4 stars in their hotel cataloge. In my experiences with other 4-stars hotels this hotel was not on the same level. I would say this hotel (by The European Hotelstars Union standards) sould be rated at a maximum of 3+.
Me and my girlfriend arrived about 2am and was met by a friendly receptionist which gave us the information we needed and the direction to the room. In the fridge there were 2 sandwiches and 2 bottles of water - on the house.
The hotel marked and the bar was closed, but a 100 meters visible walk from the main entrance was a 24-7 marked/grocery-store available. We bought some sodas and some snacks and breakfast after we checked in (the sandwich was in our opinion to dry to eat). The hotel was absolutely quiet by the time we arrived. No music, no noise from the buildings surrounding the hotel at all.
Hotel apartments were quite big. we got a balcony on the second level with pool view. A small kitchen with coffe machine, water boiler and basic kitchen supplies were present. Cleaning was great every day with towel changes 7 days a week. They cleaned our room about 5pm every day.
Two queen size beds were put together to one big bed in the bedroom and a couch which was a hide-in-bed and was sized for 2 people. Out main concern was the beds at this hotel. There are really HARD MATTRESSES. We have a hard bed at home ourselves but this was much harder than I ever have experienced before. So keep that in mind if you have any back problems or prefere soft beds on your holiday. (We were talking about the beds with other guests and we were joking about why so many of the guests used the massage service at the hotel ;)
Free bus transport to the beach every day at 1000am, 1030am, 1100am and return at 3pm and 4pm. 20 minutes walk to the beach and 35 minutes walk to the Side harbour.
Taxi transport from the hotel to the harbour is at the time 15 turkish lira.
The hotel has grill partys with entertainment 1 or 2 days a week with belly dancers, magicians, lottery, turkish dance etc. There is free wireless Internet at the hotel and they show fotball matches every day in the bar (mostly norwegian football and premier league matches), the bar closes at about 1.30am.
Staff were friendly and helpful, they gave us alot of attention and the food at the hotel restaurant was good. The little bar by the pool was populat in the evenings an they had some good coctails there, though it really depended on the bartender at work. The waitresses was not speaking english very well so there was a lot of misunderstanding in what we ordered in the bar and in the restaurant. They always answers "Yes!" when you ask if they understood what you just ordered, but when they bring the plate/or glass to the table there was often something wrong. We've been in Turkey 6 times before but at this hotel the misunderstanding was unbeatable.. A bit sad, because they really wanted to give us good service and make us happy.
Overall we had a pleasant stay at this hotel, but I would like to inform you about some issues we and other guests experienced the 2 weeks we were staying:
"Behind the curtains" there was alot of problems with the personel managment going on. Waitresses and bartenders were fired and new ones were coming in several times during our 2-weeks stay. Another guest was visiting Risus in June and told us that there were a completly different staff at the hotel that time. You can see that they were unhappy with their working conditions and was very tired in the evenings. One of the waitresses told me that he could be fired any day because of managment and hard disipline of the chief of staff working there. Maybe this is just an ongoing process, but it bothered us quite a bit to witness.
I will not visit this hotel again. But thats mostly because we didnt like the beds. The personel issues was of course a negative factor but as I said it might be an ongoing process.
Side is lovely, I will definatly visit this city again!
