Crystal Sunrise Queen Luxury Resort & SPA
Ranked #16 of 229 Hotels in Side
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We have just returned from our 11 night holiday at The Crystal Sunrise Queen and we have had a truly amazing time from start to finish. I cannot recommend this Hotel enough!

We were a family group (11 people) ranging in age from 18 months to 85 years, with 2 children (aged 18 months and 5), 1 teenager and 8 adults and this Hotel catered for everyone within our party. We considered booking the Crystal Sunset in Side (the new Crystal Hotel), but decided that it may not have been ready in time for our arrival and so booked the Sunrise Queen.

On arrival, we were greeted, helped with our bags into Reception and served a welcome cocktail, which was a really lovely touch. We were also invited to have something to eat in one of the late night Restaurants that was still open at that time (11:00pm local time), which some of the group decided to do after check-on. Again, we were helped to our rooms with our bags by the porter and were also given complimentary upgrades to Family Suites in the family block, quite close to reception. These were contemporary two-bedroom suites with king sized bed, two singles in a seperate room, bathroom with double shower, two fridges that were restocked daily, air conditioning & tea and coffee making facilities...perfect for our family of four! A cot had also been made up for our Daughter as requested. The rooms seemed to be soundproofed, as we were never disturbed during the day or night.

We spent most of our days by the family pool, on the ground floor of the family block. We always managed to get beds here, it had the baby pool for the smaller ones, larger pool for the adults and 5 slides at the splash pool (2 for children only & 3 bigger family slides). Clean beach towels were available here each day too, so no need to pack your own! There was also the Snack Restaurant (buffet style) by this pool, which was lovely for lunch and we got drinks here all day. Murat (the Bar Waiter) was fantastic...he went round the pool all day taking drinks orders in the heat and always returned with the order with a smile on his face. He was lovely with the children and we made sure he got tipped every other day for such good service.

We also tried the Waterfall Restaurant (buffet style) several times at lunch, along with Phaselis Restaurant (served menu) which were right by the beach overlooking the sea. The choice was really extensive in every restaurant at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available from 7:00am until 10:00am, with a late breakfast available from 10:00am until 11:00am. The food in every dining area was always beautifully prepared, displayed and was reallly tasty. Lots of local produce and delicious fresh fish every day. Desserts were amazing and very hard to resist. There was something for everyone and I really don't know how anyone could say otherwise! One thing that we were a little disappointed with, was that we should have been able to visit the A La Carte Restaurants twice per week. As we were staying 11 nights, we assumed that this would have entitled us to 3 visits but Guest Relations said that this was not the case. The A La Carte Restaurants that we did visit (Italian and Mexican) were under-occupied when we did have an opportunity to dine in them, so unsure as to why more visits can not be offered when staying for longer than a week and why this is not calculated pro-rata?

The staff in every area of this Hotel work exceptionally hard and we got 5 star service every time. We all ensured that we tipped the staff that looked after us and we continued to have staff go out of their way to look after us.

There were quite a lot of bars around the complex, but the majority of these closed at 6:00pm, which was a little disappointing. In the evening, there was a childrens disco at 8:15pm in the ampitheatre, followed by a live international show. Some of the shows weren't our cup of tea, like Grease and Eurovision, but the Chinese and Kenyan acrobats & the Shadow Show were incredible! Well worth a watch. After the show finishes at 10:00pm, the only bar open is the Sunset Bar, with similar music each night. After a few nights this does get a little repetitive and sometimes boring. I would suggest that the Animation Team make better use of the Crystal Bar (behind the Ampitheatre stage) and have interactive family games etc. for those that want something a little different. There is a Garden/Beach party on a Thursday and Saturday night from 10:00pm until 11:30pm, which were really good!

Drinks were varied with lots of choice and plenty of cocktails to choose from too! The measures are quite large, so we sometimes had to water them down with a soft drink to make them drinkable. No fault of the bar team...I think they just get carried away at times with so many drinks to serve!

One thing that we found out whilst we were here, was that we could also use all of the facilities at the Crystal Sunset right next door. We visited during the daytime and used the 12 waterslides that they have there, fab for a couple of hours, although it was extremely busy. We also watched the Shadow Show here one evening in their ampitheatre and had a few drinks in the bar, which was a nice change. I haven't seen this advertised anywhere but it's certainly worth knowing about!

On our day of departure, we arranged to keep one of our Family Suites on until 6:00pm at a supplement of 70 euros, ideal for our family getting prepared for our night flight. I would certainly recommend doing this, rather than make use of a courtesy room.

We made some fantastic friends during our stay at the Crystal Sunrise, both staff and guests, and these people really made our holiday. There were many nationalities, with English/Scottish a minority, however, we didn't experience any rudeness from Dutch, German or Russian guests.

I can honestly recommend this Hotel to anyone considering it and hope that they have as good a time as we all did! We are certainly considering returning and wouldn't hesitate in choosing another Crystal Hotel based on our stay at the Sunrise this year.

Room Tip: The family suites are very spacious in the family block, but we didn't have much of a view as we...

we spent one week in Side, at this hotel and were very impressed .
the hotel lives up to its 5 star rating, we had a great time, the food was great too.
side itself is worth a few walk abouts. a very nice restaurant to eat out was the Baron, located at the old harbour.
no need to change sterling pounds into turkish lira, euros are accepted everywhere.
we are going back there next year! highly recommended.

Hi readers, we went to the Sunrise Queen in June this year and thanks to Thomas Cook got off to a bad start - first delayed departure from Gatwick, which was appallingly dealt with. Then they managed to strand our luggage at the airport for 24hours. So enough about TC this should be about the hotel however it is relevant as the Hotel Staff were excellent in helping to alleviate this poor start. The guest relations team did everything poossible to track down our luggage and spoke to the airport on our behalf and facilitated phone calls to TC locally and back in the UK. Reception arranged a transfer to a better room than the one we were put in at 3AM, our arrival time. We were presented with the quite common Basket of Fruit and bottle of wine. But it is the thought that counts.
Sunrise Queen is a big hotel and can seem a little daunting but every effort is made to sign post places and its quite easy once you have settled in. First blessing once we got some swimming gear was the Adults Only Pool which sits alone to one side of the main block, with its own bar and enforcement of the no kids policy(not that there were many around it is a slightly older client profile) it was a real chill out area, which was what we needed. After a few days we moved to the main pool which was a little livlier and three floors down. All the time we could not have had better service from the staff in all the areas we went to. Restraunt, bars, pooloside where ever. The food is excellent, whilst not on the scale of say the Susesi in Belek and the Calamari was to die for.

This was our first stay in Side and i have to say the promenade along the front of the hotels is a great idea, you can stroll in to the old port of Side which is steeped in History or catch the Dolmus in for a euro and stroll back. It makes a really pleasent change from the Belek and Lara hotels.

The Surise Queen as you stroll around is to be fair showing its age a little but the staff make up for that and everywhere is still spotlessly clean. (I understand a refurb is on the cards later this year). There are also welcome back do's for returning guests which is a nice touch. The Entertainment team were quite pleasent and engaged but the evening entertainment shows were a little low budget compared with other Hotels we have stayed at.

So once the initial trauma of TC had passed(praise to their rep Harris to be fair he did all he could but they are simply not empowered by the company) we had a fabulously chilled stay yet again in Turkey no complaints from us. Dont quite understand what previous complainents were complaining about. Yes predominantly German clients but no SS brigade. Waiters made every effort to communicate and Karen and Sadan on guest relations spoke great English and were possibly the best guest relations staff, with two exceptions - they will know who they are should they read this - that we have come across, could not praise them enough.

Back to complainents - if they didnt want foriegn food (no matter how good) or to mix with foriegn people, why didnt they stay home in wherever they come from. Big up to the Sunrise Queen and its exemplary serice and staff.

To top it off we met some really nice people across a wide age range. Thanks also to them.

Room Tip: Take time to have an explore and find your way round. We preferred the main block higher floor but i...

Me and my family has been in Turkey on a 5 star all inclusive hotel for 4/6 times now, so we have high expectations to our hotel.

We arrived around 11pm local time, and the lobby area was quite and the check in went quick and easy. Our room was in a new(er) department at the hotel, and had a good standard. Air condition was very effective and we had enough space for four adults. When we arrived we thought that we probably should have ordered another type of room, since one bathroom and four adults could be tight, but it was not a problem after all.
Nice porch with a little bit of sea view, but mostly we saw the children pool and the other hotels around. Quite and nice.

The first night we took a stroll around our hotel. Could not se much in the dark, but we got an overview, and understood that it would take us some time to now this hotel well. Lots of different decks, stairs, restaurants and so on..
We noticed the relax/adult pool on the top deck and decided we would try to get sun beds there the next morning. And we did. A great place with some wind most of the time that helped us survive the heat.

We ate breakfast in the main resturant, and it had lots of nice food. Oatmeal, real bread (not just the white loaf they always have) and a grilled cheese sandwich maker was new for us. Very good!

We ate lunsj at the buffet near the beach, and they also had enough food and variety.
Mostly we ate dinner in the main restaurant, but two of the day we ate in the ala carte restaurants and one day we actually went to eat on a restaurant outside the hotel.

It was always easy to get a table at the restaurants and I liked that it is a certain dress code.

Most of the time we enjoyed our quite windy spot on the top, but we also wanted something to do.
"Little" brother went for beach volley and water polo, and me and mum went to the bar for some tea. After some days we found out we should use Crystal bar for teatime, and get all the activities to. We tried dart, watched water polo and pool games and joined the clap dance.

The beach was lovely, with lots of space, and the best, a water park in the sea. It was visit several times and gave all of us some challenges.

In the after noons we watched the show after dinner, and went to Sunset bar to enjoy the evening with music and a family quiz.

After all we are really satisfied with our stay and one week was not enough!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in May.What an excellent hotel. The situation is first class and the gardens pools and views are beautiful. The hotel is a little tired in some parts but this does not detract from what is lovely clean holiday accommodation. When the refurbishment takes place in January all this will be resolved. Food, I have read some reports of the food being repetitive. Well tell me any hotel for that matter, after a two week stay that is not. We found the food great. This is not the hotel for people that think a' la carte food is a choice of cheese or standard burgers . If you are willing to try different foods and take advantage of the a' al carte restaurants [ free twice each week) I cannot believe you would have much to complain about. I have also read about a lot of the staff speaking German or the guests being mainly German. That is true but the reason is, because more Germans go than the English, the reverse would be true if there were more English visitors . There are always awkward people of any nationality including English but I can assure you that my philosophy of treating every one the way I wanted to be treated, Including the staff, resulted in that we had no problems at all. The" adults only" relax pool was brilliant. The entertainment was not always to my liking but alternatively there is always a nice table in the complex that you can have a drink with your new made friends. The management team lead by example. Right from the general manager Ali, down to the rest of his team, the attention to detail is exceptional for example, the welcome cocktail party for new clients ,the meal for returning visitors and even having their own customer relations desk in the hotel. The proof of the success of these policies is confirmed by the many returning guests. We cannot wait to return to this lovely hotel next year.

Hi there,

This is my second review of this Hotel and although we had some problems, it is still our favorite hotel to visit.

We had some trouble with our original room location but the hotel relocated us twice until we were happy with our view and the room itself. We also had some problems in our room with a water leak but the hotel, once again, resolved everything and worked very hard to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction.

The hotel will be closed for some time this winter for renovations. I am sure that any issues we had with our room will be corrected and we can hardly wait to visit again next year.

This is the only hotel in the area that I know of that has such fantastic views from where ever you are and the beach is always clean. The staff is wonderful, the food is fantastic and the evenings shows are always improving.

We now do all inclusive. It is much easier to not worry about expenses at the end of the trip. There is a wonderful walkway that has been build also the ocean so access to the town of Side is an easy and beautiful walk, during the day or evening.

Side and our hotel are very safe and secure and you can truly relax and enjoy yourself.

Room Tip: If you want a fabulous view, ask for a side view of the ocean and do not ask for a terrace room. Th...
