We have just returned from our 11 night holiday at The Crystal Sunrise Queen and we have had a truly amazing time from start to finish. I cannot recommend this Hotel enough!
We were a family group (11 people) ranging in age from 18 months to 85 years, with 2 children (aged 18 months and 5), 1 teenager and 8 adults and this Hotel catered for everyone within our party. We considered booking the Crystal Sunset in Side (the new Crystal Hotel), but decided that it may not have been ready in time for our arrival and so booked the Sunrise Queen.
On arrival, we were greeted, helped with our bags into Reception and served a welcome cocktail, which was a really lovely touch. We were also invited to have something to eat in one of the late night Restaurants that was still open at that time (11:00pm local time), which some of the group decided to do after check-on. Again, we were helped to our rooms with our bags by the porter and were also given complimentary upgrades to Family Suites in the family block, quite close to reception. These were contemporary two-bedroom suites with king sized bed, two singles in a seperate room, bathroom with double shower, two fridges that were restocked daily, air conditioning & tea and coffee making facilities...perfect for our family of four! A cot had also been made up for our Daughter as requested. The rooms seemed to be soundproofed, as we were never disturbed during the day or night.
We spent most of our days by the family pool, on the ground floor of the family block. We always managed to get beds here, it had the baby pool for the smaller ones, larger pool for the adults and 5 slides at the splash pool (2 for children only & 3 bigger family slides). Clean beach towels were available here each day too, so no need to pack your own! There was also the Snack Restaurant (buffet style) by this pool, which was lovely for lunch and we got drinks here all day. Murat (the Bar Waiter) was fantastic...he went round the pool all day taking drinks orders in the heat and always returned with the order with a smile on his face. He was lovely with the children and we made sure he got tipped every other day for such good service.
We also tried the Waterfall Restaurant (buffet style) several times at lunch, along with Phaselis Restaurant (served menu) which were right by the beach overlooking the sea. The choice was really extensive in every restaurant at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available from 7:00am until 10:00am, with a late breakfast available from 10:00am until 11:00am. The food in every dining area was always beautifully prepared, displayed and was reallly tasty. Lots of local produce and delicious fresh fish every day. Desserts were amazing and very hard to resist. There was something for everyone and I really don't know how anyone could say otherwise! One thing that we were a little disappointed with, was that we should have been able to visit the A La Carte Restaurants twice per week. As we were staying 11 nights, we assumed that this would have entitled us to 3 visits but Guest Relations said that this was not the case. The A La Carte Restaurants that we did visit (Italian and Mexican) were under-occupied when we did have an opportunity to dine in them, so unsure as to why more visits can not be offered when staying for longer than a week and why this is not calculated pro-rata?
The staff in every area of this Hotel work exceptionally hard and we got 5 star service every time. We all ensured that we tipped the staff that looked after us and we continued to have staff go out of their way to look after us.
There were quite a lot of bars around the complex, but the majority of these closed at 6:00pm, which was a little disappointing. In the evening, there was a childrens disco at 8:15pm in the ampitheatre, followed by a live international show. Some of the shows weren't our cup of tea, like Grease and Eurovision, but the Chinese and Kenyan acrobats & the Shadow Show were incredible! Well worth a watch. After the show finishes at 10:00pm, the only bar open is the Sunset Bar, with similar music each night. After a few nights this does get a little repetitive and sometimes boring. I would suggest that the Animation Team make better use of the Crystal Bar (behind the Ampitheatre stage) and have interactive family games etc. for those that want something a little different. There is a Garden/Beach party on a Thursday and Saturday night from 10:00pm until 11:30pm, which were really good!
Drinks were varied with lots of choice and plenty of cocktails to choose from too! The measures are quite large, so we sometimes had to water them down with a soft drink to make them drinkable. No fault of the bar team...I think they just get carried away at times with so many drinks to serve!
One thing that we found out whilst we were here, was that we could also use all of the facilities at the Crystal Sunset right next door. We visited during the daytime and used the 12 waterslides that they have there, fab for a couple of hours, although it was extremely busy. We also watched the Shadow Show here one evening in their ampitheatre and had a few drinks in the bar, which was a nice change. I haven't seen this advertised anywhere but it's certainly worth knowing about!
On our day of departure, we arranged to keep one of our Family Suites on until 6:00pm at a supplement of 70 euros, ideal for our family getting prepared for our night flight. I would certainly recommend doing this, rather than make use of a courtesy room.
We made some fantastic friends during our stay at the Crystal Sunrise, both staff and guests, and these people really made our holiday. There were many nationalities, with English/Scottish a minority, however, we didn't experience any rudeness from Dutch, German or Russian guests.
I can honestly recommend this Hotel to anyone considering it and hope that they have as good a time as we all did! We are certainly considering returning and wouldn't hesitate in choosing another Crystal Hotel based on our stay at the Sunrise this year.
