“brilliant holiday!”
Reviewed September 18, 2011

arrived on the 12th of august 2011 and was met by engin (recepetionist) who was very quick with booking us in and very friendly. we was shown to our room where we found it to be very clean and roomy. we were staying in a two bedroom apartment and for the 4 of us it was enough, we had fridge kettle etc. The food was okay and we had something to eat everytime we was there. As for the staff they were brilliant special mention to Hasan who was very attentive and a good laugh he made my stay very special by always smiling and having a friendly chat with us all, but never intrusive, all the waiters worked very hard not just in the resturant but at the bar aswell. we found the pool and ground very well maintained. Side is a lovely area and we would defiantly go back to the sunlight gardens, one of the best holidays we have had.

we had read the reviews and were a little concerned......we dident need to be!.
1. accomodation- lovely roomy pre self catering apartments with 1 or 2 bedrooms. very clean, roomy, and adequate. The air con is free and tried its best but with temps of 46-51c it struggled.
2. Food- something for everyone and it definately improved half way through our stay. I would have liked a little more choice but the food served was fresh and tasty.
3. pools- 2 large pools , 1 with entertainment and music and a quieter one at the back ( much more suitable for me).
4. location- a little too far for us to walk into Side- around 35 mins along the sea front but there was a dolmus outside for 2 lira straight into the town.
5. Side- lovely old town with fabulous ruins and museum. lots of shops & bars etc but be aware they prefer you to pay in euro- a lot more expensive than other areas of Turkey. There is a good market every Saturday a 5 min walk from the hotel- foget going into the large market in the next town- it a rip off.
6. good points- the staff are lovely - well apart from 1 waiter who spent most of his time on his phone ( Hassan) and was rude at times.
7. bad point- if you have young children ( and they will love it) please buy rubber soled shoes for around the pools- it is so dangerous- extremely slippery.
enjoy your stay- for the money you pay its well worth the stay.
8. be aware if you havent booked through Thomas Cook you will be asked to pay for your meals & drinks after noon on the last day. some people were not leaving untill late at night and had to pay for lunch, dinner & drinks.

Room Tip: ask to be near the rear pool ( a lot quieter)

After reading all the reviews we entered our holiday with negative thoughts on ''what on earth are we paying to go here for'', but a very good & reliable travel agent advised us otherwise and how right was she.
On entering the hotel at 3am we were given our room and after entering 5 minutes later a knock on the door asking if we minded moving rooms as the air-con was not that great. After being at reception on arrival and another family refusing room 2125 due to comments on here about the noisy room and to not accept it - we were given the room next door....noise what noise?? If hearing people talking at the pool and hearing children laughing is your idea of noise - why stay in a hotel rather than a villa with your own private facilities?
Next all the poor comments on the food? Do people remember when they book holidays you get what you pay for? This is a 3* all-inclusive hotel that caters for every persons needs as a large group rather than catering individually to personal choice and taste. If you like your fast food chains and want your typical 'Wetherspoons' menu, then why go to Europe, stay at home and go to Blackpool. The food is freshly cooked daily as you can witness each evening with a variety of fresh salads, fresh fish, fresh meats, pasta, rice and potatoes in a variety of ways each evening - with host nights of Turkish food, Chinese specialities and even roast beef & gravy what more could you expect - we never heard anyone the whole time we were there complain about the food, fantastic variety, freshly cooked and that was consistent with everyone elses opinion. Breakfast is a mediterranean option because bellieve it or not your not in the UK. If you want these options many bars sell the typical ''engish breakfast''.
The service is 5* quality from the cleaners, to the bar staff (who after day 1 know what you are ordering and have it ready for you at the bar as you approach!) The restaurant staff with Adem and his team were superb - 3 times a day every day, everyone working together to ensure everyone is served drinks / places cleared as quickly as possible and the rapport they all have is fantastic. Entertainment is typical holiday entertainment but satisfactory with Otto with more energy than anyone I have ever met!
On site facilities were adequate for your needs, Turkish baths offering very good (but strong!!) massages and scrubs. Pedicures / manicures / cut throat shaves all very popular amongst the guests.

I hope that more people on holiday at the same time I was take the time to express their delight with their holiday as was verbally discussed, rather than all the people who want more than they expect with very little to complain about writing on here poor reviews on a very good hotel with excellent staff / facilities / food and service....we will definately be going back.

Thank you very much Sunlight Gardens for making our weeks holiday so relaxing and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Ignore the comments about noisy rooms all rooms are very good.

The holiday was amazing, hotel was really nice and enjoyable bar staff was very friendly and waiters. We booked our trips with mehmet hes only round the corner from the hotel. He does them cheaper and he is really friendly and helpfull. It is a really good holiday for a family holiday and good entertainment for the children. I would go back to sunlight garden again.

Room Tip: the rooms are very clean and tidy and quiet.

If you're used to 4 or 5 star luxury then you'll be disappointed. However, this place doesn't pretend to be something it's not. The staff made our holiday. Everyone was so friendly - from reception to entertainment (we're still missing the Crazy Frog Dance Otto!), bar to restaurant, cleaners, gardeners - pretty much everyone we met. We were delighted when shown to our accommodation. We hadn't expected much from Sunlight Gardens and 2 bedrooms would have pleased us. We got a villa with 3 bedrooms and 2 toilets which was great. With 2 teenage boys and a 9 year old girl loafing around, it certainly gave us plenty of room to spread out. The food is okay - you'll always find something you like (try the pomegrannet dressing). Breakfast is the best meal of the day. We preferred the pool area by the bar - the other one seems to be baking hot. One drink each after 10.30 is a pain - why only 1 drink even if they're soft drinks? The beach is only a 5 minute walk away (but 10 minutes back as it's uphill). The market on Monday is fantastic - the teenagers had a great time with all the football tops on offer (even if they did hate my bartering!). Down by the Roman ruins is lovely.

I probably wouldn't go back to Side but I can't say I'm disappointed I went. I really enjoyed this holiday and can see why everyone raves about Turkey.

We spent the first week in September at this hotel. This was our first holiday in Turkey and we were very impressed with most aspects. The staff were very helpful and always smiling, the room was very clean and well maintained. The entertainment was brilliant with several activities for all ages throughout the day. The guy in charge of the entertainment was called Otto and he was superb, loads of energy and enthusiasm and good humour.
A couple of minor niggles but nothing worth reporting. If we return to Turkey we would consider returning to This hotel.
