“Picture Perfect and ideal for a chill out break”

Paper Moon
The Paper Moon in Kalkan is picture perfect. It is lovely to relax around the pool on brightly coloured loungers with classical music in the background. It is really chilled out place, just a short walk from the centre of town. The suites are spacious and comfortable and the sheets and towels were changed every day.
There is always a warm welcome from Chloe at the bar who works incredibly hard. The barbecue night was great fun with delicious food and the inevitable Turkish dancing. Selo and his Dad were particularly impressive. As others have mentioned the clientele help make the place, it attracts people who want to relax and enjoy themselves and do not approve of the new “English” restaurant down the road.
How much did we like it? - We spent our middle week at Patara and intended to go to Dalyan but decided to come back to Paper Moon instead. Selo kindly looked after one of our bags so we didn’t have to take everything with us to Patara and his father took us to the bus station.
This is a really relaxing chilled out small hotel. A perfect place to get around to all that holiday reading you had promised yourself – and they even have a good library of paperbacks.

We have just returned (19 Sep 09) from another enjoyable fortnight in Kalkan, this time staying at the Paper Moon hotel.

The Paper Moon is a small, family-run hotel. It is very well located along the Kalamar road, about ten or fifteen minutes walk from town. The uphill walk back provides a good opportunity to burn off some of the excess food and drink on offer in Kalkan.

Selo, the owner’s son, speaks very good English and fixed two minor problems in our room efficiently. The rooms themselves were very small, basic and a little tired but we did not spend much time in ours. The rooms were kept very clean and the towels and bed linen were changed frequently. Air-conditioning was an optional extra, at £4.00 per day, if booked through Jewel in the Crown. There was a mini-bar fridge in the room and the prices not too expensive. The bathroom was small and basic and some of the towels were very good for exfoliation!

The pool area is lovely although the pool itself was too deep for some guests, at a constant 1.9m. There were plenty of sun-beds for everyone staying in the hotel and they were comfortable enough for one of the guests to spend the night on after a particularly exhausting evening in town. The pool-bar was a great place to swap stories of the day’s excitements with other guests and two of Selo’s friends, musicians from Istanbul, provided excellent live music during our second week.

The hotel food was very good, particularly the barbecue night, which ended in riotous Turkish dancing by the pool. Breakfast was a little basic but supplemented by a cooked speciality most days of pancakes, donuts, french-toast etc. We are early risers and were a bit disappointed that breakfast was scheduled to start at 8.30 and was more often than not late by up to fifteen minutes.

We travelled with Jewel in the Crown and I would not rush to repeat the experience. I arrived at the hotel minus my luggage, which had kindly been taken to Marmaris by another JitC guest. The rep and the area manager thought it was reasonable that I wait three days until it could be returned on the next airport-transfer to Dalaman - and transferred to the Kalkan bus, although if I wanted I could pay in excess of £100 to have it brought by taxi. After some heated discussion the luggage reached me later the same day. On the return journey the transfer bus arrived at the hotel 40 minutes early and there was no rep on the bus. After hasty farewells we got on and then had to wait at each pick-up hotel while guests sorted themselves out for the unexpected arrival.

Many thanks to Selo, his family and their staff for their hospitality, to Chloe for keeping our glasses topped up and for sharing invaluable local gossip, but by far the biggest thank-you goes to the other guests who made our stay so much fun and our hangovers so much worse.

My son (15) and I went to Kalkan, July 2009 and stayed at the Paper Moon Hotel. We chose a small hotel deliberately, and a place where we could take advantage of the location of the town and trips in the locality.
I could not have expected better.
The hotel was well looked after, the pool and poolside lovely with a nice bar; a good place to cool down and have a drink and a chat. The rooms were small and cleaned daily, with fresh towels, and air con (apartments are available if you want more space). The staff are all friendly and unassuming, and happy to help out with organising taxis to beach clubs and other queries we had. We often had our lunch there, which was good and when we were too tired to go out at night for an evening meal, we ate there too. The Paper Moon was a really nice base to have and return to each day. We could not have been more fortunate.
Kalkan is compact with lots of good restaurants, small shops to browse, and bars and cafes to have a drink, a rest and watch the world go by. Our best meals were at Doy Doy: great ambience and food, and Nar Bar: great food and on the rooftop. All exceptionally good value relative to the UK.
We travelled with Jewel in the Crown, and through them booked trips with Adda Tours. These were very well priced, they picked us up at the door and dropped us at the door in the evening. The trips were all good, including the food, and we enjoyed being with the group and our guide Memet. In particular the Saklikent Gorge and the various boat trips are well worth while.
We went to the Kalamar Beach club. It was is great place for kids to spend time swimming, doing activities and socialising and the adults can be as active as they want. The service there was very good.
We felt safe at all times and really felt that the Turkish people were all genuinely very nice to us.

Just spent a very enjoyable week at the Paper Moon and will certainly consider going back.Although rooms were on small side they were comfortable and adequate for our needs. Hotel was kept very clean and the staff were always there to help with any of our requests. Sela, his family and all the staff worked very hard and Chloe , our English bar girl, was an added bonus with regard to communication! The pool was cleaned and maintained to a high standard. The food, prepared and cooked by Sela's dad was very good and the midweek barbecue, attended by all guests proved a great success. A bit of a hike into town but with a taxi back - no real problem. On our last evening the family gave us an impromptu Turkish party with music, dancing and massage (by Sela's dad!) which attracted some passersby as well! Not really a resort or hotel for children but for couples just wanting a nice, simple and friendly spot for a couple of weeks its spot on.

My husband & I have just returned from 2 weeks in Kalkan. The Papermoon looked very good in the brochure, but once there is was nothing like it. The room was very small, could not even walk around the bed, tiny bathroom, and we found the owner very unfriendly. Needless to say we moved hotels. The swimming pool does not have a shallow end, which is not very good when someone doesn't swimm.

once again a blissful time spent at the Papermoon
Swimming in the pool listening to Tosca, eating dinner listening to Ella Fitzgerald what more can you want. Clean, small and very friendly. we have stayed here for the last 10years and hope to spend many more happy days here with the Adin family. This year we sadly lost "mum" and how we missed her. thank you Selo for such a wonderful time and for your friendship.

I stayed at the paper moon in Aug of this year, it is a small family run hotel , providing good home cooked food and excellent friendly service. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The atmosphere great, if you want a quiet and relaxing holiday then this is the place for you. The family are very attentive without being overpowering and nothing is too much trouble. The pool area is clean and comfortable with lovely cushioned sunbeds and a variety of music provided by the son, and what music he has't got is not worth knowing about, from Mozart to Sinatra it is all there, Just relaxing by the pool or floating about in the water, to classical music in the background well for me it doesn' get much better than that! Breakfast is served on the roof terrace which can be very hot even at 8.30 in the morning, and not a great deal of shade.Overall we had a fantastic holidat and will definately return to the paper moon in the futu.re
