A friend who had been going to Fidanka faithfully for years had been urging me not to miss this gem; so off I went this summer.  It is such a unique place with its own charms and character. They have many different-styled rooms; all more beautiful than the other, so trust your potluck. I stayed in one of the Terrace Timber Rooms, a very spacious room with an amazing view and a big balcony with sofas. The staff are all very helpful and welcoming. The food is delicious -  we stayed there for five nights and we chose todine there in three of them. Honestly I felt at home and in nature there – check out the spot right in the ceiling of the lobby where apparently the same swallow family has been nesting for many years now…

Having recently spent a fantastic 10 nights at Fidanka we can verify that the hotel is fully justified in the accolades it is receiving both in the UK & Turkish travel press - and believe me, I have a 'Hotel Inspector' style wife! Owners went the extra mile in welcoming us, driving us into town for the market and boat trips given we didn't have car hire. Breakfast and evening meal were of an excellent quality and far superior to meals we ate at the well-marketed, more expensive locations in town.
Rooms were indeed 'quirky', but immaculate and with stunning views that will live long in the memory. 'Quirky but not worth the money' ensured we all heard their 'issues' upon Checking-out; if it's a flat location with cool temps and English dialogue you're after look elsewhere. Enough said.

Wonderful hotel, lovely polite people & great weather.

For 130 euros per night savvy travellers have certain expectations, and these were not met.
The positives: great views and great breakfast.
The negatives: Shoddy decor, no maid service, broken refrigerator, no black out curtains so you wake up at sunrise.
The 300 meter walk to the beach the advertise is 300 VERTICAL meters:
you have to walk on a curvy road in terrible condition under the blazing sunshine for almost one kilometer.
The staff don't speak english, don't smile, have no interest in serving you and make you feel unwelcome. We ordered two lemonades and caught the bartender sipping from one of them. When confronted he alleged that one lemonade was for himself! Even if this were true, paying customers should be served first. There is no information about all the wonderful things to do in and around Kalkan. You are far from the center of town so there is little choice but to stay in the hotel for dinner unless you hike down the mountain and take a boat into town and back. Meals at the hotel are ok although there are far better options in town. There is a very capable young woman who runs the dinner service very efficiently, with a smile and a kind word for everyone.
There is a kettle in the room but can't have tea or coffee in the room because none is provided, not even a bottle of water. The owner who is the only one who speaks english, is hardly ever present. When an issue is raised, the staff look at you with a blank stare, as no one understands. There are many options in Kalkan town, at better prices and certainly much better service. As I read the other reviews, I wonder if we stayed in the same place!

My partner and I just spent a quick 2 nights in Kalkan and throughly enjoyed this amazing hotel.
It has everthing you could imagine .. charm, intimacy, location, wonderful staff ... what more can I say .. wish we could have stayed longer.
I will definitely be returning when my family come to visit in a few months.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Fidanka for a week in July 2012 and it was fantastic. We stayed in an Upper Suite room, which was more than big enough for the two of us with a living room, changing room, bathroom and bedroom, as well as two balconies overlooking Kalkan bay. The decor was lovely - traditional and comfortable, with lots of handmade touches by Cüneyt's mother-in-law, which made it really special, a home from home.

It wasn't just our suite that was stunning - the whole hotel is an eclectic mix of handmade crafts, natural oak construction and gardens that were bursting with beautiful colours and scents. The staff were great too - friendly, efficient and keen to share they're knowledge of the local area. If you're looking for the privacy and luxuary of a hotel, but the personality and friendliness of a B&B - you'll find it at Fidanka!

The hotel is in Kisla, which is a 25 min walk, 5 min taxi ride or 10 min boat journey from Kalkan - still on the coast, but in a residential rather than town centre location. We liked this, as it was quiet and relaxing - plus we chilled out by the hotel pool or at the Kalkan Beach Club most days, which is also in Kisla and has a small pebble beach, which most of the other beach clubs don't. The Kalkan Beach Club also runs a shuttle boat from the beach at Kisla to Kalkan harbour, with the last one at about 8pm each night. This was much more cost-effective than getting a taxi into town.

We thoroughly recommend this hotel - particularly for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway. We're definately planning to return. Thank you Cüneyt and team.

Fidanka means sapling in Bulgaria and the beautiful plants in the hotel courtyard and garden certainly provide a beautiful environment for a hotel. We stayed for 5 nights, early June 2012. We stayed in a 2nd floor timber terrace room which was beautiful with a lovely balcony / terrace overlooking Kalkan bay and the wonderful sunsets. The room has plenty of space with a sofa in the room and also on the terrace. There is a large comfy bed and it is very quiet at night, so we slept very well. Slightly unusually, there is no wardrobe and little drawer space so our clothes largely remained in our suitcases. There is an open rail with hangers which I suppose keeps the clothes well aired ! All rooms have air conditioning which we used at night. There are a lot of steps up to this room but others are located on the ground floor.

A lovely buffet breakfast is taken on the poolside terrace and this was sufficient to last us through to dinner. We eat out only once in Kalkan as it is quite an effort to get into town and back and it is not really walkable. The taxis are a bit of an issue in Kalkan and despite using meters, they will try and charge 20 lire each way for a 1 mile journey. There is a boat into the harbour from Kalkan beach club down the hill but this stops running after dark. Evening meals at Fidanka are taken in a really beautiful setting next to the pool but we found the food a little disappointing with items on the menu often not available. The best option would be to hire a car and drive into town as there is plenty of free parking.

Daytime was spent predominantly at Kalkan beach club, sunbathing and swimming. There is a very steep hill to go down in order to reach the beach club and this obviously needs to be climbed to get back to the hotel. Quite an issue if it is hot or if you are not terribly fit. We hired a car for 2 days and used it to visit Letoon (not worth the effort), Patara beach and ruins (well worth it), Xanthos (worth the effort) and we also went up into the mountains and visited Kaputas beach - both well worth the effort. Driving is very easy with little traffic.

We booked here independently but some visitors had booked through Thomsons which may be cheaper as a hire car is included in the package.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here very much and we would definitely return. The evening meals however need to be improved and the out of town location might be an issue for others ( but it's quiet which for us makes up for that).

Room Tip: Take a timber terrace room for the amazing view and extra space.

The family of fidanka make you feel at home as soon as you make your way up the steps and into the 'secret' garden that comprises of swimming pool, bar, restaurant and rooms. Every room is named after a different type of tree and built/decorated appropriately. Our room was reached by a little private staircase and had the most amazing view across the bay complete with balcony and comfy sofa from which to observe the world passing by. You cannot help but feel completely relaxed here. Thank you to you all for looking after us so well - we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Go for a room as high as possible for the best views.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fidanka, with its fauna, trees, beautiful gardens and antique furnishings, is a Mediterranean fairytale brought to life by a family from İstanbul who loves nature, art, gourmet food and locales with soul. Fidanka means female sapling in Bulgarian, and grows even more beautiful year after year with our love and the happiness of our guests. We have collected hundreds of objects and fauna throughout the years all over Turkey and the world, not because we think of them as decorations, but because we couldn’t bear to be without them. Toys from our childhood, mementos from our families, wooden ceilings, timber doors, window frames - some from nearby villages, some from the other side of the world, all combine to make Fidanka what it is. Fidanka offers five types of beautiful rooms each with immense terraces opening to breathtaking sea views. We used antique furnishings in all rooms, especially in the Timber Rooms. ... more   less
