This was our second stay at the Elixir and we felt that it had lost a little of its gloss from 2012, It is difficult to pinpoint exactly why, the staff try hard as always and "Pumkin" is still the focus of fun around the pool and bar. Perhaps it was the absence of the manager from the previous year (Egeman) to give guidance to the youngsters that was the missing X factor.
There is talk of some of the rooms and the pool area being revamped, lets hope that it does not lose its rustic charm.
Having said all this, we have booked to go back again in 2014 to see what has changed!

Arrived last Monday to excellent reviews - all I can say is - where have previous visitors been staying?
Standard rooms are less than basic, no bath, TV, fridge, or any stock in the bathroom. Superior rooms just about meet a basic standard.
My room had not been cleaned at all when I arrived - bin overflowing, bathroom dirty and a plaster with dried blood on the floor! No apology and just - " It's been a very busy day with changeover and the cleaners leave at 5pm!"
I insisted on moving, was shown a superior room, which was fine, but then did not wish to have to move back the following day to the extremely basic standard room. I was told that I would have to pay £20 a night to stay in my new room - even though the reason for the move was not of my making. I negotiated this down and accepted that this "was the way things are!"
I spoke to my rep the following day who was less than helpful - the hotel staff had been significantly better.
Overall though the staff here are really very good, extremely helpful, always with a smile on their faces - it's just that there is little to no organisation and no management with whom to talk. It was the end of the season, the hotel was only about half full and the place is in need of refurbishment. Limited facilities and services. It is a good walk back down to the fabulous town and harbour - envigorating even! Suggest you get a taxi back.
One local restaurant up at this end of town is Aqua which is very good - great choice, great staff and well worth a visit.
Kalkan is a great resort, hotel staff are fine - just need some management - rooms are basic, cleanliness is good (other than forgetting my room for arrival). Overall peaceful and relaxing.

We visited this hotel for 10 days in October 2013. It was our first visit to the hotel, booked through Anatolian Sky. The local tour rep, Ahmet was absolutely superb. We have been on more expensive holidays and never seen the rep..!! He was excellent at his job and always available.
The hotel staff were friendly and yet respectful. The barman Ali, was a real character and so much fun. In fact all the staff were wonderful.
The hotel is about 15-20 minutes from the town and there are a couple of challenging hills to negotiate, so you might want to get a scooter or a taxi sometimes.
The hotel is due to be refurbished in the close season and in many respects it needs a lick of paint and a freshen up but overall, we had a great time there.

Room Tip: Always ask for a Superior room, or better.

We found it difficult to find available accommodation in Kalkan, I think this is because we were booking independently rather than through an agent. Of those available we went with the Elixir due to the reviews saying how friendly the hotel is, I can confirm they are right, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We also found the guests were friendlier than those at other hotels we stayed at on this trip, the hotel just seems to have the knack of promoting friendliness.
The walk from town wasn’t as bad as I was expecting - and I’m not the fittest of people! It took us about 15 minutes to get back up the hill at a steady pace.
Our only real concern was the fact that several of the reviews mentioned about dancing on the bar until the early hours, as our room was one of those above the bar we were worried that it would be too noisy especially as we like our sleep. I emailed the Elixir before our stay about our concerns and they advised that they although all the deluxe rooms are over the bar, some are more to the back which are a bit quieter and they would put us in one of those. Honestly we hardly heard the bar at all, only when we were in the bathroom and that was because there was no glass in the window, but there was a fly screen.
The deluxe room was very big and was kept clean with nice touches including a large bottle of drinking water for our stay and a plug in mosquito repellent. The only reason I have given this 4 instead of 5 is because it needs a bit of TLC. For example there was a chunk of concrete missing from the window surround in the bathroom (could be why there was no glass in the window) and there were large gaps between the door and the frame leading onto the balconies. Having said that, if we were in Kalkan again, we would have no hesitation in staying at The Elixir.

Room Tip: If in a deluxe room and you prefer quiet ask for one at the rear overlooking the garden

We visited this hotel for 2 weeks in September 2013. It was our 3rd visit to the hotel, having been in 2012 and 2010. On all occasions we have booked through Anatolian Sky and found the service they provide to be excellent. The rep, Ahmet is excellent at his job and is always popping by the hotel to check all his guests are having a good holiday. We requested the same room as we had last year, room 203, a quiet room if you prefer this. The hotel will be 9 years old next year and whilst it is showing signs of age in the rooms this does not detract from the overall cleanliness and facilities provided. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace and there is a Turkish-style breakfast with the option of cooked eggs and fruit juice each morning. The pool is a lovely quiet area, with plenty of sunbeds, both in the sun and in the shade. Lunch can be taken around the pool and the menu is varied. However, what has drawn us back to the Elixir each time is the friendliness and genuine hospitality of the staff in the hotel, and the lovely people we meet around the bar each year. Savaz, Sami, Sebo, Ali and Bilge all deserve a special mention, but it is Pumpkin (or Sezai) who runs the bar that brings it all together. He is sociable, speaks excellent English and is at the heart of this small hotel. As in previous years, we met lovely fellow travellers during the course of our two weeks. Everyone is so friendly and willing to share recommendations for restaurants and day trips. This is what makes this holiday special. Kalkan is a special place, and the Elixir a special hotel. We will return one day I am sure. Thanks for another great holiday Elixir.

Room Tip: Room 203 is a quiet "Superior" room. If you are a light sleeper then do ask for a quiet room.
