Chose the hotel after reading reviews on tripadvisor. Arrived at our 'Standard' room and our faces dropped - almost cell like with just enough room for a 'double' bed & wide shelf doubling as dressing table and compact shower room. Balcony overlooked the roof of the bar/tv area and for 2 to sit in comfort would have been a push. Ah but here comes the manager to offer us an upgrade for a price that was less than if we had booked through Anatolian Sky - cash only (we wondered afterwards if it is a deliberate ploy to put guests in this room so that you will immediately be tempted to upgrade !)
Manager made it clear that the Deluxe room offered was over the bar but he assured us that after midnight he ensured that the noise was kept to a minimum. Second night I had to phone (after midnight !) to ask for the noise to be kept down but thankfully on 3rd night there was a power cut at 12.50am which curtailed bar activity. When we mentioned to the manager following morning that the powercut had done us a favour he then offered us a further upgrade to a Deluxe room with roof terrace and no additional cost. It was a smaller room with ceiling angles that had to be manouevered but at least the 'roof terrace' gave us an added dimension and it was at the back of the same block which meant that the noise from the bar did n;t reach us.We had to fill the gaps around the door at night with towels to prevent the mozzies getting in with ease but all in all it was definitely the best room in the hotel.
Agree with all the comments about the diligence of the manager and staff. They were always ready with a smile but you always felt that not much was missed by the manager - he seemed to be everywhere at all times.
Breakfast was excellent but we did not eat any other meal there - skipped BBQ as thought 40TL excessive when, as a veggie, I would not have been able to eat the meat selection.
Ate lunch at the Aqua, less than 1 minute from hotel. Also went there a couple of evenings but beware - on Wednesday Yusuf (the owner) offers 15% discount and the night we were there they had difficulty coping with the demand - but the food was tasty and not too expensive.
As a vegetarian I was never disappointed wherever we eat but my partner was bowled over by the steak at Alternatif. We found The Nar expensive & pretentious (went after guide on our boat trip recommended as he was a waiter there)
WARNING - do not buy food at Dalaman airport. It is extortionately expensive. We paid 54TL (approx £22) for 2 rolls, a coffee & a large Sprite.
All in all we enjoyed the week at the Elixir - the pool & sunbeds area always well maintained and plenty of other areas to sit in the surrounding gardens.
Although the walk back from town seemed daunting, especially the last climb to the hotel, it was not difficult to complete.
Hope that Kalkan does not become over developed and lose its charm. This is our first visit and although may not return time & time again as some visitors do, will certainly be on our list for the future.

I chose this hotel after doing my usual homework on Tripadvisor and reading pages of positive comments. After being shown to our room, my immediate thought was - how can so many people get it so wrong?!! The room, although clean, was very small, had limited drawer space and the balcony was so tiny it only just accommodated the two wooden fold-up chairs. Despite asking for a room overlooking the pool, we were given a room facing the road at the front of the hotel which we found noisy, especially as there was a large gap under the door leading on to the balcony (a problem we rectified by copying our neighbours and pushing beach towells under at night!).

HOWEVER! Despite our initial disappointment, we gradually began to realise why the hotel receives the favourable reviews from its guests. Egerman, the manager, is courteous and helpful and goes out of his way to ensure his guests enjoy their stay and nothing is too much trouble for him. The breakfast was excellent, fresh fruit, cheese, continental meats and beautifully prepared eggs made to order and served at your table. We only ate lunch one day at the hotel as we would have gone home a stone heavier had we had eaten there every day! The salads and sandwiches were fantastic, fresh, wonderfully presented and huge! The pool and surrounding areas were very clean and the BBQ round the pool on the wednesday night is not to be missed.

We started the holiday extremely disappointed and grateful we had only booked it for a week, but finished our stay taking Egerman's e-mail address so we can return in September (we'll book a suite next time). We were won over in the end by the 5* service, lovely food and convenient location (some hotels are a considerable walking distance from the town - check before you book). Overall, a good hotel for the price.

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Elixir and had a great time! As previous reviews indicate Egerman and his team do an excellent job and provide great service. They are very attentive without being intrusive and do all they can to make your stay enjoyable.

The hotel itself is very well presented with clean rooms and a lovely pool/lounge/garden area. The garden and pool areas are very spacious considering there are only 20 rooms so it is easy to find a quiet spot if you wish to relax. We were given the option to upgrade to a superior room on arrival for a reasonable amount and opted to do so. The standard rooms are fine but the superior give you more space.

Kalkan itself is a charming town with lots of great restaurants offering great value and retaining an upmarket feel. You will get to sample some great food! I would recommend Cafe Vita near the hotel, in particular their BBQ night on wednesday, Doy Doy in town does brilliant steaks! Ali Baba near Post Office does very nice traditional food. The hotel food is also delicious!

A few things to bear in mind:
- It does get a bit noisy at night. Strangely noise seems to really travel and you really notice it when people are in the bar at night. We found switching the AC on helped block out the noise
- It is good 20-25 min walk in to town and uphill on the way back! We found this a good thing as it helped burn off dinner! There are plenty of taxis available
- Not much is supplied in the way of toileteries so bring your own
- There is a great shoe shine man 20 yards down from taxi rank. Take your unpolished shoes and give him some business!
- As muslims we attended the local mosque and were made to feel very welcome by the Imam (priest) and members of the congregation. The Imam was very approachable and friendly and I am sure would be happy to show visitors (of all religions) around the mosque.

All in all a great stay and I would definitely recommend both Elixir Hotel and Kalkan!!!

This boutique, family run hotel was a delight to stay in and we will return soon.
There is nothing negative to be said about this hotel. It reflects the sylish nature of Kalkan, which is upmarket which seems to generally attract people who wish to have peace, fine dining and good company in a beautiful setting.
As a group of 6 professional women aged about "50" years old who wanted a chill out we were not disappointed.
Service is second to none, the food is all freshly prepared and beautifully presented, the staff were friendly and charming but remained extremely professional.
Guests gathering around the bar for conversation is part of the attraction of this smaller boutique hotel, where you are not just simply one in a crowd.
The Turkish massage by Pumpkin is not to be missed and Chef's salads are gorgeous.
We have all travelled a great deal and this was a refreshing change from the usual hotels and the all inclusive compounds!

The Elixir is a lovely, small, relaxing hotel. The staff could not do any more to help you. They are all extremely friendly but particularly the manager Egeman and the barman Cesari. The famous BBQ, held at the hotel on a Thursday night, was epic. we had never seen so many mezze dishes in one place and all of it was delicious.

We stayed in a standard room, 108, and whilst quite small, it had everything we needed and it was cleaned to a very high standard every day. We heard some noise in the evenings but this wasn't a problem for us as we had all day to relax and have a sleep if we needed it!

We had a really relaxing holiday in Kalkan and would strongly recommend the Elixir Hotel.

I have to agree with the reviews on here, I think that Egerman is definetely the best hotel manager I have come across. He works from before we get got up past we went to bed, I don't think he could sleep.

I must also mention Sezai - the bar manager, I have never met a man so suited to his job, he made all our evenings at the hotel fun, he has personality in abundance.

All the staff made our stay such a pleasure. We came home truly relaxed. The food and drink in the hotel was great, egg on toast in the mornings. Dinner was fabulous, but huge huge portion sizes, too much for me to eat, price wise it is only slightly more than going into Kalkan

the only negative is the location, it is a good 20 minutes walk up a steep hill. We are fairly fit, but it was hard work walking up it in the sun, fine in the evenings as you walked your dinner off. If you have a disability, I would recommend a taxi, fairly cheap but solves the problem.

The day we left Egerman and all the hotel staff came to reception and gave us hugs and kisses goodbye

I never go to the same place twice, but I loved this hotel so much, I have no doubt I will return next year.

We had a superior room overlooking the pool/bar area. It was a pleasant large room, simply furnished, with dark wooden floors and a large low divan. There was quite a bit of noise late into the night on some days, which we learned to counteract by leaving on the air con. Breakfast buffet, with eggs any way you like them, freshly cooked by the chef, was served on the roof terrace, which commanded views over Kalkan and neighbouring Kalamar Bay. Food was good; we especially enjoyed the BBQ evening, which was attended by most of the guests. There were lovely shady seating areas around the grounds, with cushions on divans for lazy lounging. The old town harbour was about 20 minutes' walk, uphill all the way back, which we enjoyed after experiencing the culinary delights of the dozens of good restaurants.
Far and away the most memorable thing for us was the wonderful service and friendliness of the staff, very well organised by Egoman, the manager. They grinned politely at my feeble attempts with the language, with which they patiently helped me. Leaving them all was quite an emotional event.
Note: take a plug for the sink. If you don't like soap from dispensers, take your own bar (no toiletries provided). Be prepared to put toilet paper in a bin rather than down the toilet, anywhere in Turkey.

Room Tip: Worth investing in a superior room away from bar.
