Chose the hotel after reading reviews on tripadvisor. Arrived at our 'Standard' room and our faces dropped - almost cell like with just enough room for a 'double' bed & wide shelf doubling as dressing table and compact shower room. Balcony overlooked the roof of the bar/tv area and for 2 to sit in comfort would have been a push. Ah but here comes the manager to offer us an upgrade for a price that was less than if we had booked through Anatolian Sky - cash only (we wondered afterwards if it is a deliberate ploy to put guests in this room so that you will immediately be tempted to upgrade !)
Manager made it clear that the Deluxe room offered was over the bar but he assured us that after midnight he ensured that the noise was kept to a minimum. Second night I had to phone (after midnight !) to ask for the noise to be kept down but thankfully on 3rd night there was a power cut at 12.50am which curtailed bar activity. When we mentioned to the manager following morning that the powercut had done us a favour he then offered us a further upgrade to a Deluxe room with roof terrace and no additional cost. It was a smaller room with ceiling angles that had to be manouevered but at least the 'roof terrace' gave us an added dimension and it was at the back of the same block which meant that the noise from the bar did n;t reach us.We had to fill the gaps around the door at night with towels to prevent the mozzies getting in with ease but all in all it was definitely the best room in the hotel.
Agree with all the comments about the diligence of the manager and staff. They were always ready with a smile but you always felt that not much was missed by the manager - he seemed to be everywhere at all times.
Breakfast was excellent but we did not eat any other meal there - skipped BBQ as thought 40TL excessive when, as a veggie, I would not have been able to eat the meat selection.
Ate lunch at the Aqua, less than 1 minute from hotel. Also went there a couple of evenings but beware - on Wednesday Yusuf (the owner) offers 15% discount and the night we were there they had difficulty coping with the demand - but the food was tasty and not too expensive.
As a vegetarian I was never disappointed wherever we eat but my partner was bowled over by the steak at Alternatif. We found The Nar expensive & pretentious (went after guide on our boat trip recommended as he was a waiter there)
WARNING - do not buy food at Dalaman airport. It is extortionately expensive. We paid 54TL (approx £22) for 2 rolls, a coffee & a large Sprite.
All in all we enjoyed the week at the Elixir - the pool & sunbeds area always well maintained and plenty of other areas to sit in the surrounding gardens.
Although the walk back from town seemed daunting, especially the last climb to the hotel, it was not difficult to complete.
Hope that Kalkan does not become over developed and lose its charm. This is our first visit and although may not return time & time again as some visitors do, will certainly be on our list for the future.
