We were back again - the 3rd time in four years. We love Kulube generally but were sad to find that the courtesy minibus no longer runs. This is a mistake as the hotel is a good distance from the town and the paid-for minibus can get very overcrowded in the evening. On the plus side, it is a wonderfully peaceful setting and mercifully free of children for those who have outgrown the need for child-friendly accommodation! The steps, mentioned by many, must be born in mind when booking. They make the hotel unsuitable for the disabled. The trip down to the cove and the clear blue sea is most rewarding. The staff are fantastic - don't listen to the detractors, be polite and they will be too. Alas, however, we were told things would change and I doubt very much it will be for the better, just more expensive!

Room Tip: pay a bit extra to get a larger room

As the old saying goes the curate's egg was "good in parts". Same applies to Kulube. It has a quiet location away from the dogs, bars and traffic in town, but then is again a long arduous walk up and down cardiac hill and it only has an intermitent bus (Dolmus) service to town. It is lovely to swim directlly down the steps from your room in the sea but then they make it freely available to everyone outside the hotel anyway so you may find it full of people from rented villas etc so not be abble to get a sunbed. The bar and meal service was poor when we were there, expensive and poor quality, much better and cheaper to go up to 'House', 'Cafe Vita' or 'Aqua' all up cardiac hill but worth using rather than the poor service at the hotel. The rooms and facilities and frankly tired but if it is sunny that doesnt seem to matter so much. If it rains they have no facilities to alleviate the boredom. We heard a rumour that the newer part over the road may be sold off as timeshares next year. We had to change rooms as the first one offered was musty and tired. If you don't have a superior room, be prepared for very small accommodation.

As I say if the sun shines, you don't mind eating and drinking away from it and you are fit enough to walk up and down a lot it is worth a visit if you can get a deal.......

Room Tip: Go for the best, the small standard rooms seem to be very small and poor

What can I say......we love it here and our 5th time was just as good as the first. The view is second to none, the staff are lovely and very attentive. I won't accept some of the disparaging comments I've read about the staff....if the staff were treated with respect and a simple 'good morning' with a smile, they can't do enough for you.

The rooms are totally adequate....unless you intend to spend all day in your room in which case don't come to The Kulube! Admittedly looking a little tired but absolutely comfortable and the best shower I have ever had in a hotel abroad! The rooms are cleaned every day and towels changed every other day.

Breakfast consists of a variety of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, nuts etc as well as eggs, omelettes cooked to your taste etc, bread, toasts, jams, cheeses, cold meats and a host of different teas and fresh coffee. If there is something specific all you need to do is ask and the staff will do their best to accommodate what you like.

The pool area is so clean and the sun loungers are new since our last visit here. Staff will bring drinks, beer, tea / coffee etc to you whether you are at poolside or down by the sea...all you have to do in ask. There are a lot of steps down to the sea but it's worth it, the sea is beautiful and bring your snorkel as there is an abundance of fish to see!

We absolutely love this hotel and will come back year after year. Don't be put off by any negative comments....you don't come to Kalkan for 5 star luxury; you come for its beauty and charm.

Don't miss the best steaks in Doy Doy, have a drink and dinner at Gironda and for beautiful quality leather bags you must try BSG and Yardan does the best jewellery. Adda Tours near The Alternatif restaurant for booking a wonderful boat trip...always a fabulous day out.

We stayed for one week, four couples. On arrival my wife and I were allocated a dreadful room(504) split level, tiny balcony really poor. Went to reception who immediately moved us to (203) lovely, spacious and only one floor up, so tick in the box for that. The Kulube consists of steps, steps and more steps so don't book it if you have any mobility issues.
The staff were generally friendly and helpful however only one or two are dressed in any hotel uniform, most of them look like they are going surfing at Newquay.
At the end of the first day we called at the bar for a late drink and they had no bacardi or gordons gin. In fact none was ordered in until Wednesday, which was very disappointing.
On the plus side the food at breakfast was fine, we ate in the restaurant one night and that was lovely. We had lunchtime meals at the terrace and beach cafes and they were fine.
The Kulube has two lovely pools and probably the best views in the whole of Kalkan. We didnt have a bad holiday but it could have been a lot better.

Room Tip: 203 was a spacious room. There are also rooms near to pool and restaurant which means you can escape...

My partner and I have just returned from a fortnight at the Kulube and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We stayed in a duplex room which was fine but a tad basic - no tv, kettle etc and a very small fridge that was stocked as a mini bar. The rooms were cleaned every day and there were fresh towels every second day which was brilliant. We also got beach towels supplied at reception though if you wanted them replaced there ws a charge. The breakfast was either melon, cereal or eggs(there were 3 or 5 minute boiled eggs) or the chef would cook an omelette or fried eggs - providing you could find him. The young staff seemed to spend most of breakfast drinking coffee and on their mobiles while the older gentleman did everything else. A few days there were items unavailable - milk, butter and sometimes you had to wait for the eggs.

The beach is not actually a beach - it's a sort of rocky cove - which actually suited us better as I hate the sand. The first week was fine but during the second week a suspicious scummy foam appeared on the surface of the water at various times during the day which severely discouraged bathing!!!!!

We did not eat in the hotel apart from breakfast although we did try one night and after waiting for 20 minutes and no one appearing decided to walk up the hill to the nearest restaurant.

The walk into Kalkan takes about 25minutes and once you have recovered from your first scarey look up "Cardiac Hill" it's not too bad. I would advise against wearing heels and it's definitely not for anyone with any ailments. There is also a dolmus bus that goes into Kalkan at 7.30pm and 8pm as well as a couple of times during the day.

All in all a very enjoyable holiday. Will we go back to the Kulube - probably not though we will look into returning to Kalkan s it is a real treasure.

We have just returned from 10days at Kulube and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We had a duplex room which was perfectly adequate for our sleeping and changing needs. To be truthful I was a little disappointed initially upon arrival as the room was basic however we had a superb view and for us it was a trade off!We decided a nice view was the better option. Beds /pillows comfortable. Shower room very small and in need of regrouting but it was clean.Air conditioning was a must and worked well. The staff all extremely friendly and helpful however the owner of hotel did not seem to get involved in the day to day running of the place and sat in the bar area - no interaction with guests whatsoever (not our previous experience in Turkey-the last place we stayed in kalkan owners spoke with guests and made sure all ok on a daily basis)
The whole experience was positive but I was glad to hear as we departed that a total refurb is going ahead at the end of the season.
The pool area was FAB as was the waterfront - we spent most days at the waterfront and enjoyed the bar restaurant.Although the waterfront area was for guests from Kulube there were a few "strays" who wandered in to this area. It wasn't a problem at this time of year as not many kids but I would say that would be a little annoying if you booked here on the basis of no kids under age of 17!!
We took the dolmus(5tl for 2) into Kalkan every evening from outside the hotel and a taxi back(17tl) We walked back one night and it took a leisurely 40-45mins ! Every evening when we returned we went to the bar area and had a night cap (or 2!!!)Always met up with other guests and had a laugh.
I would definitely return to Kulube and I will be very keen to see once refurb has been completed.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Kulube Hotel, which ticked absolutely every box for a relaxing and peaceful escape. The hotel offers clean and functional rooms, stunning views, an attractive pool area, steps down to several sea platforms with access to a private bay and a fantastic breakfast buffet, perfectly complimented by a great team of friendly and welcoming staff. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone - Great hotel in a great town!
