Just returned home after a weeks stay in Kalkan at the Phoenix Hotel. This was our third stay in Kalkan and once again we were not disappointed. The Phoenix is situated opposite the Tekinberk Hotel overlooking the car park behind the taxi rank, so the location is not a plus point, the patio furniture by the pool has seen better days, this coupled with the hotels location doesn`t lend itself to lazing by the pool. Maybe utilizing the super upstairs terrace would add a much needed focal point to the property. However the hotel is run by a very warm and friendly Turkish family the rooms are spacious and kept very clean,(bed linen changed 3 times in the week). Mustafa really tried hard to please us and nothing was too much trouble, so to sum up the Phoenix : A clean and comfortable Turkish Pension, and as guests,we were made to feel like part of the family. Thankyou.
As in previous reviews I agree Kalkan has become a little more expensive, but no more than anywhere else in Turkey, the shocking exchange rate doesn`t help.
Places we enjoyed in Kalkan:
Ali Babas cafe : super food and open all hours
Kaya Restaurant :
Yali beach club
Caretta Caretta Pension beach club
Kalkan Elite Hotel for lunch on market day
The lighthouse cafe-- boat and people watching.
Not sure about all the "live football" and unfinished building work, and there did seem to be more roaming dogs about.
