Was concerned to read some very negative reviews on this hotel. We have returned to the Meldi for several years now, something we have never done in the past, and each time we enjoy our stay, and yes, we do catch up with people we have met before, not pre-arranged, just a happy coincidence that we are there at the same time. We do not wear "rose-tinted" spectacles, we are fussy where we stay either in the UK or abroad. The Meldi ticks all the boxes for a relaxing stay in Kalkan. The owner is almost always on site and staff cannot do enough to help. Yes you will be welcomed like an old friend, which just makes returning such a joy. If there is a problem, ask, and they will do their best to rectify it for you. Complimentary extras in the room include pool towels (which can be replaced for a fee), air conditioning, safety deposit box, bookmarks, sun hats, room slippers. An airport transfer for longer stays is also included in the price. Sad people that we are, we are returning in 2014.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, those on the roof terrace are smaller, but are loved by many. The hotel we...

Simple clean hotel and hotel rooms. Lovely pool, bar with sea view, pleasant staff, good value and tasty food, thank you for a great time. This is not a cookie cutter hotel intended to extract as much cash as possible from the punters. It is a one off small low key hotel privately owned . No one tries to sell you anything, it is very chilled out and terribly relaxing. In regards to 'gods waiting room' comments - yes there is a long standing group of repeat visitors who like to socialise together but they certainly seem to enjoy themselves and good for them!

I don't want to say too much in case it gets too popular and there's no room for us. But when somebody disses a place it seems only fair to speak up for it, especially when you were there at the same time and had a different experience. We have returned to Kalkan many times as we love the place and find the people really friendly. We too have stayed in different hotels and villas with family and friends over the years. Last year we were in a five star highly rated hotel in Mexico. The food wasn't up to much, we experienced first hand what being on the edge of a hurricane was like and the four of us got jippy tummies one after the other, so we were never really able to go far from a toilet. This year returning to Kalkan was like coming home. Yes the Meldi is a small hotel, yes the rooms were not the biggest you ever saw but they were more than adequate The beds and towels were changed every other day, wonderful. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, not full English but hey this is Turkey! The bar snacks at lunch were lovely. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble, all you had to do was ask. Even the owner made himself known to us. What a delightfully charming gentleman he was too!
We were newbies to the Meldi, we were made very welcome. We made friends with several different couples and families. We have booked to go back next year and are looking forward to meeting friends old and new.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 310. Our air con worked fine and wasn't too noisy!

That can only be our conclusion after a two week stay. This is an established hotel in a good location relative to the town. There are newer ones with perhaps better room facilities but the pool, bar and friendliness of the staff makes this a place that many return to year after year. The hotel gives good value for money and you can book with absolute confidence.

Following a very negative recent review of this hotel we would like to share our reasons for returning each year. We first discovered this gem of a hotel some 13 years ago, and if this makes us part of 'God's waiting room' guests - then so be it, a group we are extremely proud to be members of.

No, it is not a 5 star hotel, doesn't claim to be and certainly doesn't charge 5 star prices. This is a small, friendly and comfortable TURKISH hotel. However, for a very reasonable room rate (see 2013 price list) you receive fantastic service from each and every one of the hard working staff in a clean, comfortable room (NO - televisions are not in the majority of rooms and are not advertised as part of the amenities), a beautiful pool, gardens and bar area plus at no extra charge hats, slippers, book marks, room safe, air conditioning, pool towels (which you can take to the beach or beach clubs). For stays over 7 nights the airport transfer is included and should you have a late flight accommodation is provided - again at no extra charge. Money can be exchanged at reception at as good a rate as in town without any commission charge.

Regarding the food - breakfast is more than adequate with fresh eggs cooked to order at no extra charge, lunches are as good as anywhere else in Kalkan - fresh salads, pasta, pizza, toasties etc. and if you feel like egg and chips - just ask!

That is the point - if you don't like the Turkish way of bed making - ask for another sheet, if you have a twin bedded room but want a double - ask them to make it up as a double. If something goes wrong in your room - tell reception, they will do everything in their power to put it right for you.

As for the notices in the rooms, this is a hotel not a self catering apartment! One notice in the rooms not mentioned previously advises hotel guests that a free bottle of wine is offered with evening meals taken in the hotel.

The music played at the hotel, which other reviewers have praised, provides a relaxed ambience during breakfast and around the pool during the day.

Unkind comments have been made about regular guests and their rose tinted glasses. If we have such glasses then we hope to wear them for the next, hopefully, 20+ years whilst we are awaiting our call - in the meantime we are happy to continue visiting 'God's waiting room' each year, meeting up with old friends and acquaintances and yes, welcoming and making new ones - see you all around the bar next year!

In conclusion - to have so many repeat guests the Meldi must be doing something right!

Near downtown but far Away to avoid noise. Friendly staff.
No tv in THE Rom and AC did some noise. Even so we decided for a extra night as we liked it (we're on our own by lycian coast)
At THE end we got a Nice souvenir in THE front desk.
If back to THE area, back to This hotel.
Nice breakfast.

My partner and I stayed at the Meldi the first 2 weeks of July, we have been visiting Kalkan for the last 12 years and have stayed in a few hotels during this time, this year we booked at the Meldi and we were far from disappointed! The hotel was clean, staff very accommodating and the best breakfast we have ever had in Kalkan.

We were staying in room 301 and this was more than adequate for our needs, when going on holiday your room is only a base, the shower was good and didn't keep going hot and cold, the room was clean, there was a mini bar and little extras like caps, pool towels, slippers and book marks, we have never had these little extras at any other hotel we have stayed in Kalkan.

A previous comment made reference to the fact that you are not permitted to bring food and drink from outside into the hotel, I think this is acceptable and this rule applies at all the other hotels we have stayed in, one hotel even has video cameras watching to check you don't break the rules. So if you are a first timer to Kalkan please do not be put off staying at the Meldi, this rule applies everywhere!

Some references have been made that this hotel has lots of returning guests and as a neewbie you are not made to feel welcome, I totally disagree. On our first day we spoke with the majority of the guests and yes alot of them had been staying at the Meldi for many years but we were never made to feel unwelcome, we met some lovely people and subsequently made some wonderful new friends.

The Food - Well what can I say, the Meldi lay on the best breakfast by far, unlimited tea. coffee and juice which I must add is free of charge, all other hotels we have stayed in we have been charged for fruit juice. A previous review made reference that the tea served was Liptons, that is the Turkish brand of tea, have you ever tried to buy PG tips in Kalkan! There is a chef cooking fresh eggs to order, poached, fried or boiled and there is also plenty of other foods available ranging from cereal, cheese, breads, honey, yogurt and fruit. Staying at the Meldi has been the only hotel that my partner has gone to breakfast every morning as he has always been quite fussy, but he loved the fresh cooked eggs every morning. Breakfast time was always a good opportunity to sit and relax and catch up with other guests ti hear all about their previous day/evening.

We ate one evening on the hotels roof terrace, the view was stunning and the quality of the food was just as good as what you get in one of the harbour restaurants, if you are a guest of the hotel you also get free bottle of wine with your meal!

So to sum up - This hotel has won us over, we are proud to say we are now going to be classed as 'the returning guests' as we have already booked for next year and we are counting down the weeks already.

Well done to Halil for making this hotel such a success and you have our custom for many years to come.
