We went as part of a jeep safari. We found a little man who had a wealth of knowledge and showed us around for a small tip which was well worth it it. On first glance its doesnt look much but having the info from this man made it all worth while.

The scale of the ruins were amazing. Our young kids were enthused. However the ruins are not well presented, not labeled nor well preserved.

Passing sight see-ers will be disappointed. But history enthusiasts will be pleased.

Easy to find and get to from the highway. Close to Patara and enroute to Saklikent.

We enjoyed walking through the amazingly well preserved ruins of an 8th Century BC Lycian citadel. I'm glad we we got there by 10.30 (25 mins taxi ride from Kalkan). Great photo opps but we needed the cold drinks on sale under shade of a tree to escape the heat. 44 deg reading in the taxi when we got back in. The Lycian amphitheatre is very well preserved and a group of archaeology students were working there when we arrived to uncover more info.

Xanthos was an amazing historical site. Just imagining the civilizations that existed here so long ago is truly humbling. It is one of the most impressive archeological sites I have ever visited in Europe and a must see if you are in this part of Turkey.
