“Xanthos”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We booked the jeep safari from Calis and stopped at Xanthos on the journey. We stopped on the main road so that we could take photographs which I have to say were spectacular. Our guide from Kayakoy was fantastic and gave us lots of information. When you stop, some of the village children come with small offerings of food and it has become customary to reward them with some money but they are not pushy and are grateful for whatever they are given. You can access the site but it is very steep and to be honest the photographs you can take from the road would be better than those taken directly on the site. There is a guided tour to Xanthos itself but we were happy with our stop off. Anyone wishing to do the actual Xanthos tour would be advised to wear very sensible shoes and to be extremely careful as it is incredibly dusty and possibly trecherous.

“unesco world heritage site”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

This ancient city SO needs some serious excavation and development. It is situated about 30 kilometres from Kalkan on a small hill. You feel like an archaeologist as you climb over the exposed ruins. Very little work has been done and it is a real shame as there is obviously so much more that could be done. We had a brief visit and would have liked to spend longer with a good guide
It is totally un-shaded so hats and large bottles of water recommended.

“Xanthos, Saklikent Gorge, Yakapark, Patara Beach with Define Tours”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

This review is for our experience with Define Tours. We booked a day trip with Define Tours based in the harbour at Kalkan which visited the above attractions. After being collected from our villa the day started at Xanthos with our guide Ozgur (Ozzy) giving a great rundown of the ancient city's history but we were left with only 10 minutes to explore on our own. I could have spent a couple of hours there! Then off to Saklikent Gorge for a trip up the gorge and water rafting which was great fun and plenty of places to relax for those who would rather cool down with a drink. Lunch at Yakapark was adequate rather than great. On the way back we stopped for a 10 min photo opportunity at Tlos. Again, I could have spent hours here at this ancient site. We then headed to Patara beach for a couple of hours relaxing in the surf and sand before being driven home. The day lasted from 9am to 6pm. As an introduction to the attractions around Kalkan I would rate this as a great day. Do it early in your holiday to whet your appetite for more. Ozzy is a great guide very hepful and knowledgeable with good English. The minbus was air conditioned and the driving very safe. At only £22 per person (including the lunch) this was amazing value. I am already planning my own independent trips back to Tlos to spend more time there. Define Tours were very friendly and efficient and two of our group also used them for a paragliding trip later in our stay which they said was the best experience they had had.
