My partner and I have just returned, we arrived at the Dalaman hotel and as you exit the hotel, look in the car park for black Mercedes people carriers, and you can't go wrong, the transfer is around 2 hours, which after a nearly 4 hour trip, is just a pain, but when you arrive, the welcome by the staff more than takes the pain away.
We booked very last minute and had the Gulbahar suite, it is spacious, very comfortable, but we really wish we had had the pool attached, our pool was up the track about 200 metres away. It's lovely having your own pool, and there is a butler service ....... But it's not the same.
The Cabanas are very comfortable, daybed, sun loungers, fridge with lots of cold drinks, and a fan, we had incredible temperatures whilst we were there, so we really only used the pool area.
To get to the local village, there is a shuttle that leaves at 7pm and collects you at 10.30pm, taxis are only 12 tl (£4) so you can always stay later, I personally wouldn't walk the track from the village to the hotel, it wasn't a safety issue, it is very dusty and rocky and the lighting in places is non existent.

The shops are open late and there are approx 153 restaurants to choose from. There are steep hills, so ladies, seriously I recommend no heels or wedges, flats, flats, flats. Kalkan has lots of watch, bags and silver shops too.

My partner and I found a little gem of a restaurant, it's up the steep hill, the one that runs up from the middle of the harbour, just at the top on the right, it's called Kalkamaki, service, food, price, fabulous!!! I will return especially to eat there, the Liver starter was so delicious.

For the last 3 days of our holiday, we were transferred to the Likya Pavillion ........ See separate review.

If you can get one of the suites with he pool directly attached to your room, then I would do that, the breakfast is adequate, but could be improved.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Room Tip: Pick a room with he pool directly attached to your suite

Lovely hotel , can't fault it except I wasn't impressed by the road running in front of it,it's only a small dirt road which not many cars drive up but nonetheless it separates the hotel from the beach, and it makes the hotel feel somewhat Less exclusive. The parking area on the side is used a dump, so the sight of rubbish, scrap metal and old furniture is not what you'd expect anywhere near a luxury hotel. The food is Ok, not that impressive, the breakfast croissant comes prepackaged. Other than that, each room has its own pool which is amazing and so private, and its own beach cabana with mini bar and bed overlooking the sea. Staff are friendly and the views impressive.

My partner and I have just returned home from a week at the Likya Gardens - what can I say , apart from I wish I was back there right now! It was excellent from the luxurty transfer, which was cool and speedy to the lovely suites, we stayed in the Hurram Sultan for the first 5 days which was my favorite - lovely large terrace leading onto private pool, with views to die for - this was the most private of the pools being right at the back so you are not overlooked and get the sun all day. We spent the last two days in the Penthouse which was my partner Garys favorite. On two floors with the bed and bathroom on the lower floor with a large balcony and on the top floor a lovely big room - great for chilling or partying, whatever is your thing, It has its own decked rooftop plunge pool and the views are without doubt he best out of all the rooms. You can have you breakfast, which had eveything you could want, pretty much where you like, balcony, pool, etc. The staff are fabulous and cant do enough to please, without being in your face. Big thanks to our pal Guillip (hope Iv spelt that right) who was a star throughout the holiday -nothing was too much trouble - he made the holiday perfect for us. All the staff are lovely and very knowlegable of the area. You get your own private Cabana which is great in the morning and the sea is crystal clear and the most beautiful turquoise. You almost have too much choice of where to sunbathe! We spent the first night at the Yali which is just accross the road and was very romantic, table at the water edge, rose petals on the table, superior service from our Gullip, who appeared as if by magic everytime we wanted something. Then the moon came up, huge and bright and you could not have had a more lovely setting. The food was good and so was the wine - we got a tase for the Lal Rose which was nice and light and went with most food. Price of meals didnt vary much either at the hotel or in Kalkan itself - averaging on approx £75 for two with wine. It takes about 10 mins to walk into Kalkan which is a charming little town- based mainly by the marina, but do go further out up the hill as there are some lovely little bars and restaurants up there to with great views out to sea. It was quite quiet whilst we were there so we always got a table right at the front looking out into the bay - The Seaport was one of our favourites and the grilled Tiger Prawns were to die for - all the guys working there were lovely too, good fun and happy to sit and have a few drinks with you after the meal and have a laugh - hello Norri! Up on the next level behind the Seaport was the Fish Terrace and in front of that a lovely restaurant Kouras (?) which did a lovely salad with fresh blu Crab and advacardo. Loads of lovely places, just not enough time to get to all of them.
We went out on the free gullet trip from the Likya which was lovely, especially as we had it to ourselves - well worth it.
May was good for us as it was quiet and the weather was lovely, cooler in the evening but very pleasant. I think it gets much hotter in the season and would be very busy
All in all a fantastic relaxing holiday and we are planning our return as we speak

Room Tip: Hurram - private great pool area - Penthouse Mirrimah - lovely views very private

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Myself and my wife booked into the Likya Gardens for a 10 day trip after seeing it online and booking through Elixr Holidays for a late honeymoon.

The transfers were included along with a BBQ and boat trip and the staff excellent with their help, however due to the set up of the Likya Gardens and the amount of time it had been open there seemed to be a few teething problems.
The rooms themselves are very well furnished and the position is just outside Kalkan with a walk along a track to access the town. With no reception or "management" of the building there seemed to be a lack of anybody who could make a decision without consulting and calling someone elsewhere each time something was requested. The beach bar delivered breakfast to our room each morning however "was not connected to the hotel" in any way? I am not sure if this was for legal reasons or they are trying to keep ot seperate for another reason.

During our stay there was a heavy downpour and our room leaked BADLY the water poured in through the roof and down into the elctrical sockets and air conditioning unit which then left the room with no power and us fighting to stop the water spreading with buckets, towels and dressing gowns (not a thing you want to be doing for a whole day!) As mentioned above we were left to our own devices with buckets, and towels as there was nobody there at the building "managing" to make a decsion on what to do or sorting this huge problem for us.
I had to complain to the rep to ensure that something was done as my wife was nervous that if we stayed in the room and it rained in the night it would have been left to us to try to stem the flow of water in the pitch black during the night!
They were before we complained more than content to just keep us in the room for the rest of our stay which for a holiday we paid alot of money for simply not good enough.

At this point the rep was helpful and confirmed that we could stay 1 night in the Likya Residence + a meal in the rerstaurant and a room at the Likya Gardens would be available from the next night for the rest of our stay, and that our room would not have anyone else in it until it was completely fixed.

Due to the downpour the BBQ was cancelled and the meal at the residence was given instead . .
Sooo we got a night and disruption of moving to a larger hotel we did not want to stay in and a "free" meal which was included in the package we paid a large amount of money for anyway! . . not good for what was described and sold to us especially for the price! This took over a day from our trip and we could have spent that time elsewhere and without worry if the situatiuon had been handled better at the time (this is why the rating is poor) nobody wants to lose more than a day of their holiday/Honeymoon when paying a large amount of money, we expected more help rathewr than a shrug of the shoulders and a "there is nothing we can do"

We then went back to the Likya Gardens to the room below the one we were originally staying in and had noticed that a couple who had arrived that day had been put in the room that leaked! We kept our fingers crossed for them that it did not rain again :-)

Apart from the above Kalkan is an amazing town that we would definately return to, the restaurants are amazing and the town itself beautiful the people are friendly and welcoming and this made up for the blip above duruing our stay.
The Elixr reps are very helpful and the staff at the Gardens do there very best to help in any way they can despite the lack of management at the building. The boat trip included in the package was a highlight and we had a fanastic day cruising around the stunning coastline.
The rep was helpful and tried to organise anything you needed although had to go through channels and independent parties to get what was needed. They did their best with the lack of direction although this could be something easily ironed out after a couple of years of being open.

The leaky room was of course something that could not have been helped due to Turkey not normally seeing the amount of rain that we had and in the summer months the Likya Gardens is a great place to stay however I hope they get the teething problems sorted going forward as it could be really amazing with the right management within the building itself.

Elixir H, Manager at Likya Gardens Hotel Kalkan, responded to this review, May 20, 2013
Response: ...A Lost Day

First of all, I would very much like to thank you Mr W for the time and effort you dedicated to reviewing Likya Gardens Hotel – many do not understand that small specialist hotels rely on these (usually all positive for Likya Gardens), to ensure that the potential traveller is aware of how out of the ordinary they are.

I am pleased to note your honesty when you mention that the staff were excellent and generally, so too, was the service. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little about Likya Gardens and many of the properties run by Elixir Holidays:

Likya Gardens, especially, is set up with the concept of excellence with guests having the most discreet access possible to their own butlers and liaisons to the area and general managers of the building. The building itself was so designed that each guest would have almost a mini-villa with full sized pools – the alternative was to pack in as many rooms as possible with one or two swimming pools for the property but it this case quality won over quantity. There is a permanent concierge based at the hotel and is situated on the ground floor level to ensure that there is personal contact without an intrusive quality to the service. In this instance, it was interpreted as a lack of clarity or inability to make decisions – we apologise as this impression was never the intention.

Secondly, we are happy to see you confirming the excellent quality of the accommodation and that it is well furnished and its position great for access to the town with its many restaurants, bars and cafes. We are also delighted that you clicked into the beautiful people who reside and work in Kalkan as they are well known for their hospitality and bonhomme.

Having investigated your statements with our local managers, we have been informed that there was a freak storm with a month of rain falling within a few minutes. This is very unusual for Turkey especially for the coast on which Kalkan is located and you may or may not remember that it caused widespread flooding, fortunately not in Kalkan. You rightly stipulate that the building is new and you mentioned teething problems but this precipitation was so bizarre (quantity-wise) that we did not anticipate that the tiles would be dislodged in such vast numbers but, conversely, it is a testament to the overall quality and strength of its construction that the rest of the building was completely unaffected as you will have noted when you returned the following night.

Unexpected events can occur anywhere and our philosophy is based on the fact that when this happens, the measure of a top quality establishment is how these situations are handled. As soon as we became aware of the problem which only happened in your suite, our management team stepped in to relocate you in a beautiful establishment for the night. Instead of the promised BBQ, you were offered an a-la-carte dinner for two and a partner massage to help to ameliorate the evening before taking you back the next day so that you could continue your honeymoon in style.

You may be aware that our actions to rectify the situation belie the fact that we would have been happy to allow you to stay in an obviously badly affected suite. This is not how we operate. Being a small company predicated upon our guests’ recommendations, we would not be so short-sighted as to be happy with a mediocre response to the issues caused by the storm.

As far as we are aware, our gestures of goodwill were acceptable to you at the time but, it appears that retrospectively, this is not the case, we are sorry that you did not drop us an email directly to explain your dissatisfaction, that is why we contacted you directly to find out if there was anything we could do to ensure that you walk away from this experience satisfied. We would never want to negatively affect the opinions or experience of the Trip Advisor world of travellers. All previous reviews positive or otherwise is still in place over the five pages that exist for this hotel.

We are happy that you indicate that you would like to return, should you choose to stay in Kalkan of your own volition, then, we would like to offer you one night’s complimentary stay with the newly re-tiled and refurbished roof to one of our penthouses. We genuinely would like to extend our hospitality to you for next season in Likya Gardens Hotel and additionally, you liked the previous boat trip so much that we would like you to take advantage of a complimentary day’s boat tour around the coast.

Who would have thought this kind of weather existed at the beginning of November?  We stayed at Likya Gardens Hotel in Hurem and had such a fab time.  They are a small hotel but very high in our estimation and we will return.  We had staff falling all over us, they could not do enough to help.  The hotel was full so my hubby and I don’t quite know how they kept up.  Maybe because it’s only 6 suites?  Anyway, they provided an excellent service even when we hung out in our cabanas they were there at the push of a button to provide the service that we’ve become used to now.  The suites had a dedicated cabana for each so no squabbling. The food was good and the reception helpful.  They ordered our taxis as we wanted to use the free shuttle into town but get the cab back at the times we wanted, no good walking in my Louboutins it would take twice as long as the usual ten minutes.  We enjoyed the beach club when we didn’t go shopping and my long suffering husband found lots of male company when they offered us Turkish tea.

We didn’t want to leave but we had booked to go to the Peninsula Gardens Hotel which we were told was great too.  Likya Gardens has now become my favourite hotel and although Coral at the Peninsula was a great rival for my affection, their staff also could not do enough with their continuous friendly greeting (one day I was not well and they sent someone to see me with a fresh juice and grapes), I was really grateful and pleasantly surprised.  Elixir Holidays came up trumps and I would recommend them every time especially for couples.  Their luxury cars are everything to write home about.

What a refreshing change to the normal humdrum holidays. We stayed at the Likya Gardens Hotel in Kalkan, stands in an enviable spot in kalkan overlooking some of the best views that my husband and I have seen for some time. Maybe the great weather influenced our enjoyment but the rooms were striking and well equipped with a Cappuccino machine (essential nowadays), HD TV, tea and coffee making facilities and the laptop certainly came in handy when I spilled water on mine. Oh and I left my really expensive sunglasses that I thought I’d seen the last of but no it came by FedEx the day after my arrival.

I’m writing this review for my husband as he had booked this as a surprise fifth anniversary present and due to some past disasters, I really was not holding my breath, thank heavens that he did the first sensible thing and didn’t leave anything to chance so he found the right tour operator – Elixir Holidays. I have to mention them because I don’t think the hotels that they are linked with would be the same without them. Elixir Holidays’ staff in the UK seems to have a never ending knowledge of Turkey as well as contacts that I found very handy when I needed a dentist fast. Elixir Holidays’ Manager in Turkey organised it within two hours thank heavens as this could have ruined our, now relaxing, yet fantastic holiday.

We had some of the friendliest staff at the Likya Gardens Hotel who organised our free transfers into town and helped us to see a few places of interest that filled out our ten days nicely. We had almost all of many our requests granted by very helpful hotel employees who even went into town for us on that fateful tooth day. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but as Kalkan has an abundance of coffee shops and food of every cuisine, we had nothing to complain about. Please go to Patlican and Trio, great. I’m sure we’ll being returning to this stunning hotel with its beautiful and elegant decoration as well as attention to detail.

On the surface this hotel is fabulous. Our room was lovely, spacious, with a fantastic view over the bay and a really comfortable bed. The private swimming pool has no restrictions on time of use and we loved the beach cabana hewn into the cliff with access to the sea. What let it down was the service. There is no restaurant. They use one across the road. Although there are only 6 rooms, the staff really struggled with breakfast. You have to fill a multiple choice card in at night - there wasn't a single day they got it right, I think because the cards are in English and the kitchen staff simply didn't understand them. Hot food wasn't covered, so it always arrived cold. Much to our embarrassment, we had to make a bit of a fuss to get some decent coffee - they would bring tepid water and expect us to use the sachets of Nescafe in our room (!!) or the espresso machine that was broken and only restocked with decaf. In the room the sink, shower and bath are all in different areas (this is really lovely) but there was only one bar of soap and one tube of shower gel. We asked for more - it never arrived. The shower room smelled badly. The laptop provided didn't work. The flatscreen TV only had CNN or Turkish channels on it and the settings were all in Turkish. We booked a hire car - it was really old, with no air con and no back number plate. We tried to book a trip - they totally and unapologetically let us down. When you book 5* it's the detail, the little things that really make a difference and unfortunately in our experience Likya Gardens totally failed in that area. A real shame for such a beautiful hotel.

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to leave a review for us at Elixir Holidays and our partner the Likya Gardens Hotel. We understand that this takes a lot of effort and we use each one to inform our decision making and tighten up our customer service both in Turkey and the UK. We are delighted that there was so much about Likya Gardens that you loved. We put a lot of effort in ensuring the rooms are delightfully peaceful, a haven of relaxation and romance and the hotel’s architects have taken full advantage of its location so guests can enjoy unfettered views. The private beach cabanas we built with space and quality in mind and are offered as a useful adjunct to the suite.

The Likya Gardens Hotel is offered on a bed and breakfast basis and as such we have no restaurants. Generally we encourage guests to take advantage of the vast number of restaurants, bistros, cafes and private eateries. We even offer free shuttles into town for those not up to the leisurely stroll. We also understand what you mean about the detail and we are disappointed with ourselves that we did not meet our own exacting service standards. We wish that you had given us the opportunity at the time to actually do something to remedy the issues that you had. We would appreciate it if you could contact us so that we can offer a full refund on the car and discuss further how we can help to ameliorate the problems you had with the coffee making facilities.

We delight in helping our clients have the best holiday, anniversary or birthday celebration and look forward to ensuring that your future experience booked with us at Elixir Holidays is a beautiful one.
