“A rather special place.”
Reviewed October 1, 2011

After reading many mixed reviews we were keen to see what all the fuss was about, and just get on with our holiday,So we arrived at about 2.30 in the morning to be greeted by a rather helpful and polite Hotel night receptionist, he checked us in with no fuss and even helped us up to our room, ok via the elavator, and it was only one floor but was a nice touch, well we arrived at the room to be greeted by a very spacious room, bright and clean, and cool, he showed us the wobbly ceiling fan and requested we dont use that.Well the view from the room was totally incredible, at night Kalkan looked rather special and mezmerizing, Shimmering lights way up into the mountains,Incredible. Anyways, the A/C was rather good and did the job, some nights it made a bit of noise so i just switched it down to a lower setting and it was fine, The room had a sofa, tv, fridge, table, ample lighting, good size balcony, two reclining chairs and a table, good size bathroom, nice and bright, large wardrobe, with lights that switch on when the door is opened.Remember your room key operates the electrics in your room so when you go in the key goes into a slot and then then everything works. The Breakfasts were very good, fresh fruit, Wonderful Breads and rolls, lots of salads, and cereals and a good omelette station for fried eggs and of course omelettes, plenty of tea and coffee and fruit juices. We were half board so ate in the waterfront resteraunt for lunch and the chicken sandwiches were excellent,But there were other good choices of Salads, and sea food and pastas.Dinner was also in the same resteraunt and A La carte was outside by the main pool.Tables lit up by candlelight. The grounds were excellent, plenty of greenery and flowers, and the gardeners were constantly doing a very good job. Four pools in all and we mainly stayed by the Adult only pool, (bliss),Also i must say a BIG thank you to ESEN who made the best vodka and diet cokes and delivered the Efes beer perfectly chilled. Excellent amount of sunbeds and space, and a few steps down to the sea.Overall the Patara Prince is stunning, Kalkan is stunning,Will be returning next year, thats for sure.

Room Tip: 815 first floor, incredible view,

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday staying in Villa 189 at the Patara Prince Resort. It was fantastic. The villa was all we had imagined with amazing views and a lovely plunge pool. The interior was well equiped, spacious with good air con upstairs and plenty of hot water. We ate in the A La Carte restaurant a few times and had breakfast twice and were more than happy with the food in both. The resort is beautiful and well maintained, there are gardeners and handmen everywhere. The 2 pools are lovely and its a real delight to swim in the sea. we were lucky to see turtles on 2 occasions. Yes the staff are reserved but thats mainly because of their lack of English but they were always helpfull and polite. We used the water taxi to Kalkan and also the normal taxis which were helpful and cheap and it was a godsend to have the mini bus up the hill especially in the heat. We are already planning our next trip. We travelled trough Elixir Holidays who were fantastic. Kalkan was also lovely and there was a massive choice of very good restaurants. We recommend Aubergine and Salt n Pepper.

Just returned home from two glorious weeks at the Patara Prince hotel ...we miss you already.!After reading negative reviews over the past few months we were eager to see the Patara Prince hotel for ourselves. We arrived at 2.30am to be greeted with a warm smile and welcome by the Front desk night manager, with very little fuss we were shown to our room 815 on the first floor. He showed us around the room and then saved the best til last, The view.!INCREDIBLE. Full sea view and also Kalkan harbour and town view was breathtaking. After a good nights sleep in the very comfortable beds and excellent Air conditioning we went down to breakfast which was very varied in choice which ranged from Omellettes, fried eggs ,boiled, various salad, cheeses, Turkish fresh baked bread, cereals, tea and coffee and fruit juices, cerals, the list was endless. The gardens around the resort were immaculate and very well maintained,Yes there were plenty of steps but this added to the charm of Patara prince with incredible views of the bay from every angle and every level.Several pools to laze by on a hot summers day. We spent most of our time by the adult pool which was very quiet and peaceful with attentive barman Muhorrem Esen who supplied us with copious amonts of Efes beer, Water and fruit juices. A Huge thank you to him.In the evenings for dinner we ate at the Patara A la carte resteraunt which also served a fantastic selection of buffet meals, from salads to hot meat dishes and a lovely sicilian themed nights, also a good choice of desserts. The Hotel is very relaxing and tranquil and has a charm of its own.Thank you Patara prince hotel and staff for making this a very special holiday. CANT WAIT TO RETURN.!!!!!!

Room Tip: 815 Prince room with sea view.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 6 nights I spent at the Patara Prince resort in June 2011.
The apartment was beautiful, the scenery breathtaking.

The stairs were challenging but I was a lot fitter by the end of my stay. The town of Kalkan is charming with many fine restaurants and some terrific shopping. Brought home lots of lovely things to remember this trip.

I wouldnt recommend eating at the resort. The food and prices in town are much better.
Having said this it was a wonderful holiday!

After using tripadvisor to plan my trip I feel its my turn to give some tips back.

Ive just got back from 8 nights at Patara prince hotel. I was concerened about the bad reviews I almost was going to cancel my booking.

But Im glad we stuck with it, the hotel is lovely old world ( bit crumbling ) Turkish tuscan charm.
We got a very nice room with sea and kalkan bay view - which we requested.
Aircon worked well, there were comments there were just fans? thats not true.

I agree the whole resort could do with a refurb - but it was very comfortable and excellent location you can literrally roll down stairs from breakfast into turquoise med sea. And 10 min ( 5TL ) boat trip into Kalkan town.

ONLY real issue is the breakfast - sorry but it was awful.
Patara Prince pls you need to mix it up a bit - add a few more fruit variety's - local fruit vinyards are all around in the mountains they cant be that hard to get hold of.

Also you need to add a filter coffee machine - no one expects latte's but just good strong filter coffee. The coffee machine at present is like dishwater!

Otherwise and lovely stay thankyou Patara Prince.

Arrived at the hotel about 4am, it was a little confusing as there was no sign saying which building was reception and the door was locked but security eventually let us in and we got checked in. The gentleman who checked us in had obviously just woke up and so he took our passports from us to process in the morning (which I wasn't happy about but was too tired to make a fuss) which we did get back the following morning. He then had different details about our board basis but when producing our hotel confirmation that was soon changed. We stayed in a Club room right at the top of the resort. As people have mentioned before, the rooms do need updating but they were by all means clean; the ceiling was a deep red colour on one half of the room so even with the lights on it was very dark but the other half was magnolia so was fine, the bathroom though was so so tiny you can only fit one person in, the shower head was really old so we had to hold it to wash ourselves rather than stand under it, the shower curtain was just useless as it didn't cover the shower tray and we ended up with a wet bathroom floor. Our friends were in a room above us and for some reason they had booked the same room but their bathroom was a little bigger than ours, really strange as you would think they would build the rooms the same but anyway we were able to wash so not a big problem.
Breakfast was fine, typical turkish breakfast. Lunch was a confusion, we paid for full board but could only order from a snack menu? then we were told we could order a few courses from the lunch menu.. the staff didn't explain what we could and couldn't have when we arrived and throughout the time we were there we were told different things so they need a better system and to provide us with the correct information. Now onto dinner.. well we paid for full board but ate there twice out of 9 nights, this was because my boyfriend and his best friend both suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea (which we thought was food poisoning as it developed 48 hours after we ate in the restaurant). They both had a piece of meat which was very pink but due to the lack of lighting in the dinner area you couldn't see your food properly but we can only think that it was that but we are not 100%. Myself and the other girl had diarrhoea and so we all wasted a whole day inside recovering. After this none of us could face going down to dinner at the buffet restaurant which was like school dinners anyway. We ate in Kalkan and found this lovely little place called Foto's Pizza (by the taxi rank). It was just a pizza place but due to the food poisoning it was nice just to have a margarita pizza to settle our stomachs. It also had this lovely seating area with cushions. We ate there 3 nights then when at the pool we overheard a group talking about a lovely restaurant called Chapter One, we asked the group where it was and went along.. all I can say is WOW! The food was absolutely amazing! So if you come to Kalkan then go to this restaurant! We went the following night too (our last night in Kalkan), the staff were lovely, the manager gave us a free round of drinks, bought me and the other girl a rose and was just so so attentive.
The hotel facilities are very very good, with 3 pools to choose from you are spoilt for choice, we never had trouble finding 4 sun beds together, then you have the lovely sunbathing platforms with steps that go into the sea. The adult only pool was such a treat, peace and quiet all day long, bliss! It says that there is only 1 salt water pool but there are actually 2 but it wasn't too bad to be honest as there are showers next to each pool to freshen up. Due to our room being so high up we had to climb all of the steps but with the little shuttle bus going up and down the hill it was so handy! It doesn't run on a sunday though so you had no choice but to walk up them.
All in all this hotel is nice, it's not as bad as a lot of people have made out so go with an open mind and enjoy the amazing views of Kalkan! It's such a stunning town! I would definitely return to Patara Prince more so for the facilities but we would probably go on a bed & breakfast basis.

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea view.. so beautiful!

We've just returned from a 2 week holiday, staying at a privately owned apartment in the Patara Prince resort. Having read the reviews I was a little concerned that we had made a mistake in choosing this resort, however, we were absolutely amazed by the resort. It is in a perfect spot opposite Kalkan so the views you have of the town are fantastic. They provide a shuttle boat to take you across the bay, or it's a 5min taxi ride to Kalkan.
The resort itself is amazing, the layout and landscaping is great, and the various sunbathing platforms where you can dive straight into the sea are fab.
As we rented a private apt we ate out in Kalkan most nights but when we did eat in the Patara restaurant the food quality was fine, albeit the service was slightly slower than you'd get in Kalkan, but we certainly didn't experience any problems.
I wouldn't recommend the resort for people with mobility issues as there are many steps (we never managed to count them all) but the shuttle bus that runs from the top to bottom of resort regularly means you don't have to use the steps if you don't want to.
We had a fantastic holiday here, it is a special place - and I couldn't recommend it more.
