“Loved It!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2011

We had a fantastic time staying at the Pirat. Like the other review, we also spent our 30th wedding anniversary here! The views from the hotel are amazing. Breakfast was plentiful.. full of all types of cereal's, dried fruits, yogurt, cheese's, eggs, bread etc. Staff are as friendly as you want them to be and are not at all pushey. Rooms are basic but comfortable. The pools are a good size and we met some great friends there to. As for Kalkan...I just fell in love with it. The people are so friendly and do not bother you whilst you are looking around their shops. The little cobbled streets look so pretty at night with all the colourful shops. The restaurants are classy . We loved the Gourmet Terrace & Sandals, but really they are all fab. It is very hilly so I would not recommend it for the elderly or for people with walking difficulties. I really hope to return next year as there is no other place at the moment I would want to go to. I have been back for 2 weeks and still miss being there so much!

We've just got back from staying 2 weeks at the Pirat Hotel with my husband and 2 teenage daughters on a bed & breakfast basis. This superb location is very central for the harbour and countless wonderful restaurants. Our room had a TV, mini bar, hairdryer in the bathroom with soaps & shampoos. The bedrooms were cleaned every day, the towels & sheets were constantly changed and the cleaners would decorate your beds with lovely fresh flower petals - nice touch! Whilst we were there, we went on the relaxing Falcon boat, which you can see from the Pirat Hotel - this was great value for money and served a delicious fish lunch with afternoon Turkish tea & cake. The staff at the Pirat are very welcoming and can't do enough for you. We had a fantastic time and will definately be returning. I've put excellent as my overall rating as you have to remember this is only a 3 star hotel!!

I want to start by saying if anyone see’s a similar review from me this must be the 10th time I have attempted to put a much deserving review on this space for the Hotel Pirat but something always goes wrong and my entry fails.. To those of you that this has also happened to! please persevere as the hotel really does deserve the rave reviews it receives and more. We decided to visit kalkan this year after years of friends insisting we would love it. We normally visit Italy but are so happy we finally succumbed. From arrival to departure the whole experience was wonderful, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and the hotel lit fireworks and gave to us a cake. We were quite overwhelmed, understanding from chatting with many other guests whom were repeated guests to the hotel that most of the staff had been with the hotel since the year dot, they had that can do attitude and friendly disposition normally experienced by new staff members eager to please. Quite amazing really! Quite the people watchers we noticed time after time that the staff were consistent with the old, the young and the beautiful. The cleanliness, the service and the quality of the food was also consistent.
We have already booked with reception directly to go back next year to celebrate our 31st and could not imagine any other hotel or destination that would offer such an amazing welcome and service.
Well done to you all....xxxxx

Room Tip: choose a room in pirat 1 facing the marina

I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Kalkan, staying at the Pirat, with my children. I have had a great time and as i have been there over a few years i wanted to mention how wonderful this hotel is and how great they are with my kids, the kids feel at home and are looked after at all times. Usually we don't go half board as we like to eat out but as alone for a couple of weeks i felt best to go half board and the food was so worth its money, and amazingly tasty. I loved the room i was given , in the Pirat 1 as it was a family room which i requested as i needed separate bedroom as my kids are older now and needing more space, the cleaning and the service was 5* and Umrahane who looked after us on reception always had a smile and was always happy to help in any way possible together with Clare who again was a great help and always full of information and assistance, whenever we needed it , as being alone with two kids is always good to have help at hand and english speaking. To show how much i loved it i have already booked again for the October hols with my hubby and have found that booking direct is much easier and better as you can pick and choose your rooms and all the transfers are booked for you too, anyway enough of my going on , as you can tell i have had a lovely time once again and really felt to tell all, hope you all enjoy as much as i did.

I will start off by saying that there were some good points. As with everyone else Reggae was amazing at the bar but with one or two exceptions the staff there are not good at all, and in some cases outright rude.

We have stayed in other hotels and villas in Kalkan and I would say I have never come across staff as unfriendly as the ones at the Pirat.

We booked through Jewell in the Crown, If ever there was an inappropriate name then this is probably it. We looked in the brochure at all the pictures of the new complex and thought that the pictures were representative of the accomodation. This was not the case. We would have been in the old part of the hotel with a land view of a set of steps at the back of the hotel. Hence a significant additonal cost to upgrade to the new complex with a pool and harbour view was incurred.

I would not recommend going full board to anyone at this hotel. The food is put hour in some cases hours before you eat it, wihich in the hot conditions would not be the optimum way. Given the relatively low cost of eating out I would do that every time.

Jewell in the crown arranged transfers for us, which were supposed to be provate transfers but we ended up squashed on a mini bus with no air conditioning on the way. On the way back I arranged my own transfer but an argument occured with extremely rude reception staff who were insisting we got on the arranged mini bus on the way back and said my private transfer had been cancelled. It had not been.

During the course of the discussion my wife was called a name associated with a female dog (I cant put the exact word because of a checker on this report - if only the bus driverr hadc the same profanity checker) by the driver and intimidated by the reception staff. I found this totally unacceptable and will be taking it up directly with the management.

The hotel itself is very quiet at the moment and the bar was almost empty some nights. There we several rooms unoccupied for long periods of the holdiay, which was good in some ways as therre were plenty of sunbeds!

All in all despite its prime position this is the last hotel I would ever return to in Kalkan. I have already booked for next year direct with the Samira Deluxe, where the staff are friendly.

Not a pleasant experience at the Pirat.

Room Tip: Book direct rather than with Jewell in the Crown. They are rubbish

Where do I start? The staff? The room? The Pool? The Food? The Place?

I think I will start with Claire, the manager, her welcoming smile, patience and help was overwhelming. She is a credit to the Hotel and made our visit extra special, she organised trips and advised us on all things to do during our stay in Turkey making life so much easier and enjoyable. Reggae, the bar manager, was again friendly, kind, and always happy to help, a true character. The care he showed to our daughter and, in fact, all the children was memorable. Letting them help behind the bar and making them feel grown up – it also gave the opportunity for the children to mix. He even let the children use his OWN computer to go on the internet. The rest of the staff were just as friendly but these two went the extra mile – thanks guys, you made our stay one we will never forget.

The room, wow!! we overlooked the pool which in tern overlooked the beautiful marina. Every morning we sat on the balcony, watching the boats sail out to sea, simply breathtaking. The maid cleaned the room every day occasionally leaving flowers on the bed – a lovely touch.

All areas of the hotel were immaculately clean, well maintained and finished to a very high standard. We booked for Half Board as our daughter can be very choosey with what she eats. We had no concerns in that department, the evening meals were devoured and enjoyed by all of us, a big relief not having to go out and chance eating out, very cheap too.

On speaking to the very friendly guests it became apparent by how many return every year. One lady has returned every year for the last 25 years, another couple 12 years, a family had brought their children every year from babies to adults and they now bring their children. It really is a gem of a hotel and we will definitely return next year and for many more years to come. My only wish would be that we found this place earlier. Thanks again for the welcome we received, the help from the staff and the “nothing is too much” attitude given to us from all at a very special hotel.

we have returned from our holiday in July 2011 from the hotel pirat in kalkan, the breakfast was good and the pools were excellent in a great location, and that's as good as it gets as the rest is downhill from there.
The hotel is dated we experienced air con dripping with water, ripped towels, poor quality towels, dirty room, black hairs on the beds, poor lighting in the bathrooms, cracked tiles, cracked coffee cups in the pool bar, sealant around the sink black with mould, taps falling too bits, toilet plunger falling too bits, wood screw holding the air con flaps together, needle and cotton on our floor, patio door would not lock, also had to lift the door to close, bathroom floor flooded, pool area not swepted daily and to top it all off the bar manager plays with his long hair, just before he scoops your ice cubes into your glass, just to make you feel at home??
Yes we did complain and we did get moved, although you need to get moved if you book with Jewel in the crown, as there rooms are at the back of the hotel (reference hotel manager) which face inland and some lovely concrete steps to greet you, and not the rooms they advertise in there brochure so please be aware as you will want to upgrade, even the receptionist on arrival told us our room was not nice!!! yes we have wrote several letters of compliant and they say it is down to a room that has not been cleaned? I dont think so!!!!
If you do complain you will feel very uncomfortable for your stay, as they do not like people complaining, and you also need to be aware of the different prices of bottled water from the pool bar, all depending who serves you, it could cost 2 lira, or even 4 lira? to upgrade we were told £70 then when we humed and ared, it went down to £50.00??
I suppose you can say we are disappointed and we have missed the area which others have wrote a review on, the franchise of puchasing water if you need a drink when in the hotel, as you are aloud to consume water only purchased from the hotel itself, even though it is over 40 degrees in july. Hopefully they never run out,

We have stayed in Kalkan for the past 3 years and had a wonderfull time,, the resort is great second to none and stayed in another 3 star hotel in the resort, which compared to this is a 5 star.

As in the title yes a 5 star location, but the worst accomadation we have ever stayed in during our 20 years of visiting the med.
