Just back from the Pirat in beautiful Kalkan. The Pirat is right at the front of this hilly resort overlooking the harbour and the bay of Kalkan. Our room was over the pool with sea view, quite big and comfortable. Beware of high floors in this part of the hotel, there is no lift. Two excellent pools and children's pool and a pool bar and snack bar. We opted for the half board option, dinners are a buffet, plenty of choice but food needs to be hotter. If you want to save money this is a good option, it cost only £7 per person per night for dinner. However with the number of excellent and varied restaurants in Kalkan we would opt for bed and breakfast in future. The weather was very good and warmer than expected for Octocer, only one bad day. Highly recommended.

Location - superb, hotel overlooking marina, bay, islands backed by hills/mountains.
Room - Pirat 2 Block G Room 335, top floor with amazing view up 129 steps (phew), small balcony, good room, constant hot water, good aircon, firm twin beds (not able to move together), carpeted room. Only negative point, both bathroom plugs didn't fit.
Hotel food - continental style breakfast adequate, though no fruit.
We ate several times at hotel buffet served by poolside, good value, several barbeque nights, good range of colds and desserts.
Hotel staff - friendly and helpful.
Hotel Marina Restaurant (Pirat 1) - very friendly staff. A la carte restaurant next to marina, stone oven, superb naan breads, set menu very good value, especially the seabass.
Pool - two large pools plus children's pool, very clean, ample sunbeds with cushions, small wicker sunshades.

This is a reasonably priced but superb hotel in a beautiful setting, lots of steps, even up two flights from road level to buffet, snack bar and pool (helps burn off the calories). Pirat 1 has a lift.
No safe in room but safe for hire in reception in Pirat 1.

This hotel probably has the best location and views that we have been to, near the beach (pebbles), water taxis to 3 or 4 other beach clubs, marina (lots of boat trips, we went on Romantika 1 -lovely gulet, good crew and smashing lunch), easy walk to other restaurants and shops, although be prepared Kalkan has some very steep streets and steps absolutely everywhere, although you can walk straight from hotel along the level harbourside to several restaurants on quayside. Beach easy level 10min walk, Ibo Beach Club, pay for sunbeds, swim from platform (warmer water than beach - quite good for snorkelling) 5min level walk and so many fantastic rooftop restaurants, this is a foodie's heaven!

We flew to Antalya 4-5 hr drive, (very long drive but superb scenery hugging the coastline) best to fly to Dalaman 2-3 hr drive.
The Turkish people are very friendly and welcoming and Kalkan is a superb small town, very relaxed, quiet (except for three Sky Sports Bars until 2am) but generally this is an upmarket resort, fairly new to tourism.
Would thoroughly recommend this hotel - we can't wait to return next year.

We had a lovely time at Pirat and found it to be in the best location in Kalkan right on the habour front, people have expressed in reviews noise problems from disco but i can say we never heard anything. The hotel overall was very good rooms perhaps in need of upgrade in bathrooms but no worse then Greece, rooms cleaned well with clean towels most days.We did upgrade to seaview and found it worth the £49 for week. Kalkan is a up market resort not suitable for children or teenagers has there is nothing for them to do. If you go you will find people in resort helpfull and friendly, please visit Cafe Del-Mar for great coffee and cakes, also Paperazzi resturant for saffron chicken great! Others too many to mention but you will find it hard to have a bad meal over 150 to choose from. We will return again just to try to get round some more rest.!

Overall a great experience at the Pirat. Two parts to the hotel - one large group of rooms by the pool, the other older building across the road. We were in a first floor room in the old building without a seaview.. it was a bit dark and the balcony was the size of a postage stamp. But I am of the belief that we were there for the sun and not sitting in the room. So no problem. We could have changed for £7 per night but didn't feel the need really.
The pools were all great. Bit cool but that's what you want when it's 35oC!!
Staff were all friendly.
Breakfast isn't that great and the snacks available during the day are cheap, but better quality can be found elsewhere in Kalkan.
Evening meal is great if you are not fussy with your food. Lots of choice and in a week we got two BBQ's, which was my highight.
Kalkan is just lovely. A personal plea from me... Don't take the kids and ruin it for the adults!! Kalkan is a grown up resort that should be left for people who enjoy a nice town without the usual 'Brits abroad'. It is expensive though. I read in one review that Kalkan is a bit like 'Hampstead-on-sea'.. it is and there's nothing wrong with that.. I hope it doesn't get ruined.

PS: Something about me, which helps understand my review... I'm 30, my partner is 29.. we had a great time. Some quiet nights walking round the town and some very drunk nights too!!

It seemed so nice when i booked , but we were disappointed. We had trouble with the room, which nobody wanted to sort out and had to pay an extra £280 which i am now trying to claim back. The pirat is two separate hotels and if you stay in the old one it is very noisy, the breakfast is very basic and could do with going on some iced plates as the meats and cheeses turn very quickly, My 15yrs son was very board and i would not recommend it for teenagers. The pools are nice but lots of people were getting ear infections my son included. Kalkan is a lovely place ,but not alot to do and a bit pricey, weather was great but i wont be going back.

My husband and i have just returned from our 6th visit to Kalkan,
staying at the Pirat Hotel, the location is perfect, weather was wonderfull and as always so many restuarants to choose from, our favourites were The Olive Garden, Ibo and The Old Trading House.
We were disappointed to find one of our all time favourite places
"Cafe Set" had changed to an (up market?)Brasserie, overpriced
evening meals with very little atmosphere unlike before, meant
we made just one visit!!.
As regards to the noise of disco at hotel, we both thought it was very loud especially going on until 3am!! and we could hear it,and we were on top floor, not been like this in previous years,so might think twice about staying at Pirat again, which is a shame as everything else about hotel and Kalkan is perfect.
Lets hope they are not trying to make too many changes as people may decide to stay elsewhere which would be a shame.
We still had a great holiday.
