We've just returned from a fortnight at the Samira Apartment/Hotel in Kalkan. The location is perect, Kalkan is very hilly & the Samira is just at the top of the main drag, but high enough to have a good view over Kalkan & far enough out to walk off your dinner!.
We were B & B, the room decor was fine, plain & simple. The rooms were cleaned everyday by a lovely couple. Only downpoint - our shower was pretty rubbish.
The hotel area is kept spotless, loads of staff at your beck n call, nothing is too much bother for them. Prices in bar & resturaunt fair n comparable to anywhere else.
There are pleny of loungers, bean bags etc for everyone, although its quite comical watching the staff return the loungers at the end of the day to there rightful place, making sure they're not an inch out of line!
A must is the Turkish evening, for 35lt you get a fantastic dineer & great entertainment - well worth it.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time here & would definitely retunr & use this hotel.

Room Tip: There are three blocks, the back one doesnt hae any view but is very quiet, although it has to be sa...

There are 3 Samira Hotels in Kalkan-The Samira Garden, ours and The Samira Deluxe (much further out of town and a bit of a walk) Our hotel looked great in the write up and on the surface, but when we arrived we realised we had been put in the older, shabbier part of the complex. One couple asked to move into the newer bit and were charged more. Anyway we stayed put, and although it was basic it was away from the bar and the pool noise. Apart from the night they have a 'Turkish night'. As we walked up to the hotel we could hear the music blaring out, and so could the rest of Kalkan (a couple who lived 10 minutes away said they could hear it) it went on until 1.15am. It sounded like it was actually in our room it was so loud. We complained but the manager wasn't available. We and others complained to the Thomas Cook rep the next day,his reply 'Everyone was having fun'-ummm not everyone especially if your flight had got you in at 4.30am the previous morning and you needed to sleep! After that the staff gave us the cold shoulder and on the last day the cleaner got very verbally aggressive about getting his tip-maybe he should have cleaned under the bed where we found a pair of lacey knickers-previous occupants! Apart from that the hotel was very well positioned and had a lovely pool.

It took only two trips to Kalkan to appreciate the gem that is this beautiful town on the coast but also to find a real gem in the Samira Hotel. Located dead centre of Kalkan, it is in an ideal situation, close to buses, taxis, restaurants, market and shops, the old town and port. It is neither up the – very steep – hills which Kalkan is known for, nor down near the harbour, just dead centre where the Kalamar Road meets the main drag into the old town, therefore access is easy and convenient.

So apart from location! Location! location! you will get service! Service! service! This is clearly a well managed hotel, punching well above its weight with high quality service and attention rarely equalled, because it is accompanied by a happy, attentive staff in all departments.

Reception staff cannot do enough, when my wife broke a toe late at night, reception organised taxis and Reception Manager also lent crutches for the remainder of the holiday. Housekeeping keeps the rooms, and the rest of the hotel, immaculate with daily linen and towel changes. Rooms in the hotel blocks are a little on the small side, and (thankfully, I suppose) no Turkish, nor any TV for us Brits to complain about. Sky in the public areas though. One downside, no fridge .......... The apartments appear to be the best bet with more space but they get booked up and are a little more expensive.

The bar and restaurant staff are efficient and are real personalities and you never have to wait for anything. Pool area is kept immaculate with any fallen leaves swept up during the day and quick and efficient service from the well-managed bar team.

The Bosphorus restaurant – open to non residents - but never overly busy when we were there late June, has good views, attentive staff and as good as most of the 25 or so Kalkan restaurants we have visited. Unlike some, it is not over pretentious, but it is cheaper than most and the portions are enormous. Great food and great value!!

Regrettably with consistently good reviews the Samira will gain in popularity but we will just have to book a little earlier for next year.

Room Tip: High floors have best views of Kalkan. APartments have more space and kitchens

Just returned from 2 weeks here. Weather was great with an average of about 43oc! Rooms were fairly small but clean and well looked after for a 3 star hotel! Breakfast is basic but other options are available. Dinner was enjoyable with traditional dishes most nights of the week along with the usual stuff. Views from the hotel were beautiful and Kalkan itself has a lovely small harbor/beach town.
I would suggest that you check out the excursions on offer in Kalkan town before booking with the rep-sometimes a bit cheaper but we found that although the same excursions they seem to have more fun! Fethiye market was a disappointment to us as there was little traditional stuff and more fake designer clothes- but it depends what you want!
Overall, i would strongly recommend this area and hotel-great for couples and families- great value for money and what a great holiday!

13th - 27th August 2011

The journey is roughly 10 hours from leaving home to hotel bedroom, if everythibng runs smoothly of course. This includes a 1 hour car journey to/from the airport, 2/3 hours at the airport, 4 hour flight & 2 hour transfer to/from hotel. The transfer is roughly 1 hour to Fethiye, at which point, anyone going on to Kalkan finishes the jouney in a seperate vehicle. Please bare in mind that the majority of the transfer involves travelling up mountain sides with shear drops. The drivers are very confident, but this does not stop vertigo.

Arrival in the middle of the night is met with help with your luggage from reception & you're led straight to your room. The rooms are basic & the beds are annoyingly hard, but kept clean each morning (if requested) by the very happy cleaners. The next day Ergan (Hotel Manager) welcomes you to the hotel a provides lots of information & advice about Kalkan. Please ask Ergan any questions about excursions or anything as he's very helpful. A safety deposit safe is £5 per week & is situated next to reception.

The pool is great, but not huge & the hotel receptionist puts bucket loads of clhlorine in it every morning for some reason. There were quite a few people pool side during our stay, but plenty of sunbeds to accomodate. Bartenders frequently walk around the pool taking orders & are happy to bring them to you. NOTE: anything bought at the hotel is paid for the following morning. This can be difficult to monitor should you have a family.

The Samira has two restaurants. Bosphorus, which is on site & Kosh which is in the middle of the village. We have experienced both restaurants & can say it is not worth going half board. There are too many restaurants in Kalkan of varying costs etc that make it pointless going half board. There are many great restaurants close to the hotel, not to mention the others down in the village. We highly recommend the 'Olive Garden', but you may have to book in advance.

The Samira offers a turkish night on Wednesdays for 35 lira. This includes a buffet starter with a choice of 30, a main (orders taken earlier in the week), a desert & entertainment in the form of traditional turkish dancers & a belly dancer. This evening is great value for money & a must if you stay at the Samira. Roughly 100 people attend from other hotels, so you may still be able to attend if you ask them.

Prices: The average price of an evening meal is 25/30 lira or £10. This would be a couple of beers & a casserole. I know that it depends entirely on what is bought & where from i.e. the habour is more expensive etc, but on average £10 will get you through. One beer was consistantly 5 lira, coke 4 lira & glass of wine roughly 7 lira. Water is 1 lira for 1.5 ltr.

Kalkan itself is beautiful & relaxing. There are shops of all varieties, but no one is ever pushy. It is a must for anyone wishing to experience Turkey & the Samira is well know as one of the better hotels.

I can also recomend a boat trip for 40 lira on 'The Sea Belle'. This includes lunch & is from 10:30 - 17:00. A haircut & turkish shave from the 'coiffeur' - 20 lira, situated just in front of the post office (a wooden hut, but air conditioned). A day trip to Xanthos, Saklikent Gorge & Patara Beach - 90 lira. Finally, the turkish market on Thursdays is a must. Great bargains to be had if you are confident enought to barter & banter. Rule of thumb - always ask them how much first, then half it & meet somewhere in the middle.

I do not recomend Patara Horse Riding. The horses are lazy, the terrain is awful & the man in charge is constantly on his phone even when driving. Avoid this like the plague.

I took 1080 lira (£400 @ 2.7 lira to the pound) spending money for two weeks & ate & drank pretty much whatever I liked, when I liked. I also had a turkish bath - 28 lira, boat trip, excursion for the day, haircut, two shaves, Turkish night at the hotel & had a little change. I think £500 would have made it very comfortable.

I myself will visit the Samira Hotel in Kalkan again knowing I will not be disappointed. Please feel free to ask me any questions & if I know i will try to help you.

Room Tip: Room 304 in the building closest to the pool has a fantastic sea view. Recommend it.

We stayed here for a week in June. We only booked this hotel because my father and his friends had booked and we decided to tag along. We have visited Turkey about 19 times and this has got 2 be our favourite out of them all!
We stayed on a half board basis, the breakfast is a traditional turkish breakfast and was fine. We only ate one of the evening meals and didnt really enjoy it. Instead we ate off the a la carte menu and you could have 20 percent off that. the dearest meal on there was £12!
The thing that makes this hotel is the staff! They are amazing! Ergun who is in reception is a lovely guy, always had time to chat to you whilst paying your daily bill. Volkan was our favourite, always stopped for a chat and a bit of banter. Mumin, Jack, sam and Kaan were also lovely.
We met some lovely people at this hotel and we will be regular visitors like many others.

We had a lovely holiday in Kalkan liking both the place itself and the the Samira hotel, the staff were lovely as well as the locals, everyone was very helpful.
Kalkan itself is clean and well situated on a hill with lots of shops and restaurants, we had two weeks here in the middle of July the weather was very hot but just what we went for and there was free air conditioning in the room and plenty of shade by the pool if you wanted it.
i think we chose the right time to go as just as our holiday came to an end the hotel filled with families with small children which made the small pool very noisy.
We will definitely visit again as so many of the other guests we spoke to had done themselves.

Room Tip: we had a land view room and were quite happy with the choice given
