My reason for this post is that we went twice in August long before it was rated number 1 on Trip Advisor, but the best Turkish meal in Kalkan we experienced. You can go anywhere for a steak in a beautiful setting with a lovely view, but this is the most traditional Turkish hospitality and beautiful cuisine you could ever experience. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely family. Thanks to Jan and his lovely wife and sons who showed us around. We will be going back in August next year.

Believe what you read on previous reviews. This is a special "Small House". Husband and wife run this lovely restaurant and the welcome together with service is warm and genuine.
We had booked the balcony table five days in advance because there was no other day with places free! The small restaurant has a maximum of 20 covers which probably adds to the feeling of intimacy and as if you were eating in the owners own home.
The menu is limited but the food is clearly home cooked as evidenced by finding Mrs Jan in the kitchen grilling fresh fish on the hob.
We chose the Meze plate to share which was definitely authentic Turkish fare and so tasty. My wife chose the sea bass which was plated whole and beautifully grilled. I went for the roasted meats option and asked for lamb...what a great choice. Probably the tastiest and most flavoursome main course I had enjoyed all week in Kalkan.
We drunk local beer, gin and tonics which were definitely not shy on the gin and a glass of house red. All great.
Jan, the front of house and husband of this friendly partnership was charming in every way and clearly cared about his restaurant and all of his diners.
The only downside was a family with 3 young boys who had not been taught how to behave in any kind of restaurant. Not the owners fault...blame the parents!
Bill was less than £45 for a lovely meal. We will definitely return next year.

We have visited Kalkan on several occasions over the years and have never had a bad meal at any of the restaurants.

We were staying an hour away from Kalkan this year but decided to drive in for lunch one day. We would normally have headed for one of our favourite "regular" restaurants and have never even noticed the Küçük Ev (Small House) restaurant before because it's just a small room above a real estate office. It's only thanks to the rave reviews on TA that we found it. And we were so glad that we did.

It's not a smart, roof top restaurant, we felt more as if we were walking into someone's house. There are only a handful of tables inside plus one table on a balcony overlooking the centre of Kalkan. We were lucky enough to be offered the balcony table, and loved it.

The menu is far more Turkish than most of the Kalkan offerings. We went for the shared mezze plate, the fish stew and the king prawns. We were served 10 or more different mezze dishes, all of them delicious. The mains were equally good. No fancy presentation but just good honest Turkish home cooking. Everything was fresh, the fish was cooked to perfection and the flavours were superb. Fish stew may not sound exciting but it really was excellent. We were so full that we decided to share a baklava for dessert, which again was home made and absolutely delicious.

The restaurant is owned by a husband and wife who were really friendly. The restaurant has a lot of local custom and felt very authentic. It seemed far less of a tourist trap than some of the larger restaurants and prices were very reasonable. The kitchen looked spotless.

We really understand why this is the number one restaurant on TA. We will definitely be returning next year.

This was our best eating experience whilst we stayed in Kalkan.

The restaurant is tiny but the welcome made you happy to be there even before you had sampled any food. Like most people here we had the mixed meze starter which was huge but delicious. My main course was the highlight...I had sea bream...much better than sea bass that all the other restaurants also sell. It was beautifully cooked and tasted wonderful.

There are in excess of 120 restaurants in Kalkan and we had tried just a few but this establishment deserves its 5 star rating. The bill was very reasonable and served much better food than some of the more expensive harbour side restaurants.

Don't expect fast food...this is a freshly cooked restaurant so just relax and enjoy the ambiance. Try to book the balcony table and enjoy people watching in the street below.
