“Fantastic! Brilliant location, very comfortable and clean apartment with lovely pool.”

The apartment is situated high on the ridge between Kalkan Bay and Kalamar Bay - far enough from the centre of Kalkan to be quiet, but only a 10-15 minute walk (or a 2-3 minute cab ride for about £3) to the bars and restaurants around Kalkan harbour. Next door is a supermarket that is open until late that stocks everything from bread (baked fresh every day) and fruit to household goods. It even has a small section of British favourites such as Heinz beans and Branston pickle etc. The owners of the shop are very friendly, helpful and speak good English.
There is a small hotel close which has a great bar area, a free pool table, Sky TV if you want it and again the staff are very friendly and speak good English.
The apartment itself is one of a block of six - three floors of two and being one of the two ground floor apartments, it has an extra outdoor seating area with its own table, chairs and sun loungers. Shared between the six apartments is a beautiful pool area - lovely cool pool and sun loungers/umbrellas around. Also shared is the rooftop sun terrace which again has tables and chairs as well as its own little kitchenette (fridge and sink etc), a built in BBQ area and a WC. The roof has the best views and although a little hot for me during the middle of he day, is a fantastic place to relax or have a BBQ in the evening.
Inside the apartment is spacious and clean. The main living area has a nice seating area and a small kitchen with sink, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, kettle, fridge and washing machine. When we arrived things such as washing up liquid, washing powder, fabric softener etc had all been left by previous occupants - so we didn't have to buy half the shop when we arrived - we replaced anything that ran out through our stay and left it for the next occupants. In terms of food and drink, we arrived very late at night but the essentials had all been left for us - with drinks, water, milk, eggs etc - so we didn't have to worry about waiting until the next day.
There are two bedrooms - a double and a twin (although the twin beds can be pushed together if you're careful!). The double is next to a bathroom with a great shower as well as toilet and wash basin while the twin has its own en suite - again with shower, toilet and wash basin.
Both bedrooms have very good air conditioning units which is really important to us Brits who otherwise might find it hard to sleep through the warm nights. The main living area has a nice big ceiling fan which is fine for the daytime.
The main living area also has a TV, DVD player, a music player for CDs or MP3 and a bookshelf with a guide to the apartment and to Kalkan, various books and travel guides to read (all English). There is no WiFi in the apartment, but you can pick up WiFi from the nearby cocktail bar and in the hotel bar close to the apartment as well as in just about every bar and restaurant in Kalkan! Iron, clothes drier, hair drier etc are all included so you really don't have to fill up your luggage with the little things.
On our arrival, we were met by Gareth - a Welshman living in Kalkan - who was our contact if we needed anything. He came around a few times a week in any event to make sure things were OK. The apartment was cleaned a couple of times a week and this included clean bedding and towels.

Kalkan itself is a beautiful place. A really pretty harbour surrounded by good restaurants and bars along with shops is the centre. Thursdays there is a very good market where you can pick up real bargains. Although Kalkan has its own small beach, the best beach I have ever seen is a 10-15 minute drive away (there are regular shuttles too) - Patara. Soft sand, shallow into the sea, very small tide (so you can be close to the sea all day) but entertaining waves. It also has a beach bar/café. If you like beaches and come to Kalkan, don't miss Patara.
On the way to the beach at Patara, there is also a brilliant archaeological site with a huge amphitheatre and the remains of one of the most important ports of Roman and pre-Roman times. The local government is rebuilding some of the buildings and the information plaques being put in offer a fascinating insight into the history.
Not far away, there are other ancient sights to see, other beaches, other towns and of course, Saklikent gorge - but I had better stop or I'll be sounding like a guide book!!
I think it is worth summarizing that the region has lots to look at.

I should perhaps mention the weather - I have been to Kalkan now for four years in July and/or August. I don't recall a single day with rain or a day that wasn't sunny and hot- but obviously you can check that out for yourself online.

“Not sure if this place can be bettered !”
Reviewed August 7, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We were greeted at the appartment by Gareth with whom we immediately had the banter. He genuinely said that he was on hand throughout the week if we had any issues ( which we didnt , so only caught up with him occasionally whilst he was watering the plants).
The appartment was spotless. Two good size bedrooms with their own bathrooms. Tidy kitchen ( with all appliances) and good size living area. The pool is clean and plenty of sunbeds. The appartments also have a roof terrace if you want to have your own BBQ. Kalkan town is brilliant. friendly people who do not give you the hard sell. Food is superb ( and cheap )as all the restaurents compete against each other and we could not advise which was best. The best value for money was the boat trips . We were out all day ,with the right number of stops for swimming, we had coffee when we boarded, lunch ( which we couldnt finish )afternoon tea and cakes and piles of fresh fruit, 4 alcoholic drinks each and the total bill was less then £30 per head.!. Speaking of heads , I had a hair wash & cut , face mask, head and arm massage cup of tea and a friendship braclet for £7 !. I could carry on with the superlatives .Transport to the appartment was arranged by the owner and although you are 1.5 hours in the cab, the cabs are lovely and comfortable with good air conditioning and the driver supplies snacks and water. It does not seem like 1.5 hours and we enjoyed it. The appartment it self is near the top of a hill which we enjoyed as we like the walk ( justifies the beers ! ) but the cabs are so cheap and plentiful this is not an issue.. We are definately coming back to this appartment next year. An interesting point was that we met many people and we were the only couple who had not been to Kalkan before!. Cannot rate this appartment and Kalkan highly enough.

“Fab apartment”
Reviewed October 2, 2011 for a stay in August 2011

The apartment is well eqiupped clean and plenty of room for 2 couples. The pool area is very pretty. Some of the sun loungers around the pool need to be repaired. Most of the time we had the pool to our selfs which was great. The views from the roof terrace are stunning. The apartments terrace was lovely to have a drink on when returning at a night .The apartment is a good 15-20 minute walk to the centre of Kalkan great going down but quite a hike coming back up the hill but there loads of taxi available at cheap prices.Overall the apartment is lovely and I would recommend it .
