“1st time to Kalkan”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Great hotel, fantastic helpful staff, good food (prawn casserole amazing) everything reasonable price plenty sun beds everywhere clean. Samira resort hotel set on the hill side overlooking the bay. The hill is steep but good tip walk down over the bridge then past the mosque,,carry on into town past taxi rank, get taxi back only 11 TL well worth it. The view over the bay is fantastic and if you like good food you will be hard pressed to find a bad one. In no particular order "Korsan", fantastic view good food, meze, makes a very nice lunch at the beach end of first terrace. same terrace you will find "Kaptan" restaurant another, meze, for lunch stop and fantastic menu to try in the evening ( specials board well worth investigating. The Pisces in the old town makes a good stop on the way into the rest of the old town for a fresh orange or a beer, live music makes this a very busy and interesting place For that special meal try Gironda food is excellent but the staff can be a bit too efficient personally I like to pour my own wine when I'm ready roof top terrace. The Olive tree is another place for that special meal on the rooftop terrace fantastic food staff very attentive. The Nar is another place for that special meal, more laid back another roof top terrace. I could go on and on and on but then it becomes boring. there are nearly 200 restaurants to choose from we were only there for a fortnight and did not find a bad one my partner and I very rarely go back to the same resort twice as there are so many places to see in the world but this one is one to bookmark for a return visit. We found one restaurant which we seem to spend some time in on very hot afternoons having a beer talking to the staff (Ilyada). The food is very fresh the fish is still breathing when you pick it for your evening meal and the lamb shank is massive. don't just take my word give Kalkan a try. you will enjoy it.

Room Tip: All rooms in hotel good with aircon free had to pay extra for safe but not overpriced south facing r...

We are currently here in Kalkan and want to set the record straight The Samira Resort Hotel is set on a hill takes ten minutes to walk into main street of Kalkan if you cross the bridge and walk straight down towards the mosque not towards the bus station which takes longer It is good exercise and means you are away from the town when you decide to go back however as the season is winding down there are very few people staying here. We enjoy a few hours round the pool ( needs a clean though) looks like they are economising on pool detergents. The reception lady is friendly and helpful there are spare books and toiletries and as far as we can see I don't understand all the complaints on here the view is fantastic and Kalkan is great. For a cheap break we could not have asked for more

stayed for two weeks from sept to oct 2013. hotel very clean and maintained, lovely view top floor.
cleaned every day by two lovely ladies.breakfast basic but what we expected still enjoyed it ,boiled eggs cereal, toast, melon plenty of tea.had kettle & fridge in room so this was a bonus.we didn't eat at the bar as the costs were quite high.i did have a sandwich when i arrived a tuna in soft burger bun with 8 chips for 12 Lir not worth it pool area very clean with plenty of sun beds and brollys.reception staff very friendly (fatima) so helpful.I haven't got any thing nice to say about the bar staff and the guy who prepares all the meals, sol miserable not a smile between them,no good morning they cannot be bothered. we liked the resort lots of restaurants to eat at good prices.kalkan is very hilly not good in hot weather to climb up steep hills. not suitable for children as not much to do with no sandy beaches just lots of pebbles which are uncomfortable to walk on.as they are all piled up..so very uneven.pushchairs are a problem too very hard work as we have noticed alot of families struggling with the hills and climbing all the steps over the flyover.I must mention reggie the thomsons rep he was very nice always spoke to you.the thomas cook rep was also helpful even though we were with thomsons when we had a problem with anything it was rectified within mins, we had our cases brought up to our room even though we are quite capable of carrying them, also on leaving we was asked if we needed help with the cases again, good service by the gentlemen not sure of his name but very helpful.I think thomsons should give more details about the area and facilities for families.

Room Tip: location good if you are active, but not suitable if you have walking difficulties as the pavements...

I have to take issue with Billy F. It is not the case that nearly all good reviews are for the Samira Hotel in town and that people are confusing the two. It's clear from some of the descriptions in the reviews that it's the Samira Resort (formerly Deluxe) that is being described. It's one thing to complain about the staff (who incidentally I have found very helpful and pleasant) but quite another to complain about the geography of the place! It doesn't take a great deal of research to establish that the Samira Resort is on the hillside above the town. Why on earth would you book to stay there if you have a problem with this? Kalkan is hilly. That is a big part of it's charm and means that there are wonderful views from almost everywhere. If you have an issue with hills don't come to Kalkan.

We are just coming to the end of our second stay at the Samira Resort this year (June and October) and both times had a wonderful holiday. The hotel represents very good value for money. It is after all one of the cheapest hotels in Kalkan so you can't expect it to be 5 star! We started out in an apartment but asked to transfer in order to get a seaview. Fatima helpfully moved us to a hotel room where we have an amazing view over the bay. The rooms are clean. The pool and bar area are very nice and the atmosphere very relaxing with no hassles. I've also stayed in the Samira in town and prefer this one. Please don't be put off coming by the previous review.

I must first of all start off by informing people that this hotel is INCORRECTLY listed on many websites (thomson being 1) as the Samira hotel, which when clicked on, links you to the Samira resort / delux and vice versa (very confusing). Let me tell you. Nearly ALL good reviews on here are for the Samira hotel, which is in town and is a very nice hotel so i hear. HOWEVER, Trip Advisor DO NOT have this hotel on their website, so people are incorrectly reviewing it on this page (Samira Resort).

Now on with the review...

I travel ALOT, and this is BY FAR the most horrible place i have ever stayed in my life! ALL staff, with exception of the receptionist lady, are EXTREMELY rude and act as if you're a bit of dirt on their shoe and that you're inconveniencing them by being there! They constantly talk about you right in front of you in Turkish so that you don't understand what's being said. Unfortunately for them, i do speak Turkish, however i was not willing to make this apparent because i was quite interested to hear what they had to say about people. I cannot even begin to explain what was said about some people including myself, who were just trying to enjoy themselves and make quite simple requests!

The hotel itself is not actually too bad, but the staff REALLY ruin it!

The breakfast might as well not exist (melon, cheese and bread). They say it's traditional Turkish breakfast, but i think this is purely an excuse to save money and encourage people to buy food from the ridiculously expensive pool bar.

EVERY time i ate at the pool bar (not very many times), the bill was completely wrong and i had to have a massive argument with the bar manager before (every time) he admitted that there had been a mistake and took off the extra charges.

Kalkan itself is not a bad place and there are some fantastic views from the hotel, but you really have to be a keen mountaineer to handle the excruciatingly steep hill from the town centre to the hotel, especially if you have shopping with you. Taxi from town to the hotel will cost you around £5 each way, but if you're taking these 4 times a day (2 trips to town), the cost soon mounts up! The hotel run a shuttle bus service, which is a complete joke. I waited for it on 1 occassion and when it eventually turned up (20 mins late), i discovered that it takes you all of about 1/4 of a mile, to a shopping centre which the hotel own! It saves about 2 minutes walking (completely useless in my opinion).

I cam here for a nice relaxing getaway, and mainly due to the staff and the location of the hotel, i had the complete opposite of that. I have visited Turkey many times and never had less than a 5 star experience, but this place was so terrible, i signed up to Trip Advisor, just to share my experience!

We came to Samira Deluxe in September 2013 for our second visit. Last time stayed in apartment overlooking pool area which was very good and had all we needed in facilities for breakfast and lunch. This time decided to stay in hotel and were in Block B on top floor with great views overlooking the resort. The pool area was good with plenty of sunbeds and brollies at all times, and the lunches were fine. Breakfast was typically Turkish with plenty of fresh produce and as much as you wanted to eat. The bar staff were very friendly and always obliging and helpful. Fatima on reception is brilliant and always ready to help out if any problem. The bedroom is of a good size and spotlessly clean. Kalkan resort has some terrific restaurants at reasonable prices compared to what you would pay in the U.K. for equivalent fine dining. Go and enjoy the experience.

Room Tip: Hotel Block B
