“perfect!”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We have recently come back from 11 nights at Samira and went with my husband and 13 yr old daughter. We loved it,perfect for us and hope we weren't one of the Benidorm characters mentioned in the previous review as were there at the same time!! However i did not see any and we spent much of our time at the hotel. Accommodation was clean and more than adequate, apartment block older but was big enough and the balcony had fantastic views. It is very hot and the airconditioning in the bedroom was a life saver.
Food was good and a reasonable price but ate in town most evenings due to the fantastic traditional restaurants in town. Yes the hill is tough on the way up especially in the mid day heat but we took advantage of the shuttle bus and did have the occaisional taxi which never cost more than 14 lira. Everyone mentions the hill in their reviews so should not be a surprised when you get there!
It is an incredibly relaxing holiday but not boring either Kalkan is stunning and there are plenty of day trips to suit everyone. Our favourite was the saklikent gorge but when we go back we will definitely explore abit more. The highlight of the holiday though had to be the warm welcome from the staff they were genuinely lovely people. This was our first visit to Turkey but definitely won't be our last to samira will be booking again soon!

We booked this as a last minute package holiday, something we almost never do. We were allocated an apartment on arrival; we had booked a hotel room. On the one hand the rooms are located in a much newer & nicer looking building; however, on the other we were happy to have a fridge, table etc. although the fixtures & fittings were somewhat worn & shabby looking. It was kept very clean throughout our stay.
I believe the brochure does not emphasise enough quite how steep the walk is into & out of town. We are two fit & healthy people but even we struggled up in the heat of the day. The famous 'shuttlebus' service from the hotel really only takes you into & from town about a third of the distance; you still have to do the worst part yourself.
The hotel tends to cater for it's (entire?) British clientele; we spent day one by the pool & were horrified when the footie was shown on the massive TV screen in the bar, with the sound turned up, RIGHT next to the pool. We loathe football & go on holiday to get away from such things. We declined the 'Turkish Night' for many reasons, number one being that they advertised that 'proper chips' would be served with the meal. We ate once by the pool & felt that, whilst adequate, it was poor value for what we paid.
If you watch 'Benidorm' I can almost Guarrentee you will spot one or two characters here!
Not a bad place, & we LOVED Kalkan. It's just this accommodation was not our personal cup of tea. We'll return to Kalkan, but next time make our own arrangements.

just come came from kalkan we stayed at the samira apartments. We had a good time very friendly helpful staff, clean apartments a bit dated if anything . You have to cross a main road into town but it is never busy and the place is very hilly but there is always a taxi or the free shuttle bus from the hotel.

Currently waiting to get picked up to go back to dalaman airport and back to England :(

Have had such an amazing holiday with my family and boyfriend we can't thank the staff enough for their hospitality and everything they did for us. Me and my boyfriend want to say sorry for keeping you all up to 3 in the morning drinking with you all haha!

We all stayed in the hotel side which had sea view overlooking kalkan town was a beautiful view! Room was lovely and clean! And cleaners were also really friendly and always smiling!

Kalkan town itself was also very pretty I recommend that if your into the traditional side you go and have a meal or drink
Whilst sitting on the turkish cushions. Also hire your Own guilet boat, go out for the whole day going to many coves fishing and snorkelling. They cook you a lovely traditional Turkish lunch.

Overall we have had an amazing holiday and when we're back in England me and my boyfriend are booking straight up ready for next year, as we made some lovely friends with the staff being mehmet and ilkay! We will miss you both lots! But see you all next year! :)

We have just returned from the Samira Deluxe where we stayed in an apartment. Two families with four teenagers. Pool area very clean and water a lovely temperature. We had a wonderful time. The bar and complex staff are very friendly and nothing too much trouble. There was no rush for beds by the pool either. Kalkan is beautiful with lots of rooftop restaurants with lovely views. Food was very nice too and consistant throughout. Kalkan is unspoilt and no McDonald's in sight! We were concerned our teenagers would be a bit bored as the village is so quiet but after our meal they couldnt wait to get back to the fun of the hotel bar. One night ending up in the pool at 1am! Thank you to all the staff for a brilliant holiday :-) x

We had a marvellous stay in Kalkan at Samira Deluxe, wonderful interiors, and very good service and exellent entertainment especially Turkish Night, staff were very helpful and friendly.
Songul and Senol who clean the rooms everyday are great workers and all the front counter staff are also helpful.
All in all, recommendable without reservation.

Firstly we stayed in the hotel part across the way, and the rooms are great, very modern and clean, we also had a sea view looking down onto the harbour, which helped. The bathrooms are small but modern, always hot water at night. The cleaning staff are great, they have a little daughter who comes and cleans with them and she's a little character. The pool itself is a good size, but can get very full. The bar/food area is a nice area to have a drink and some lunch as some of the tables overlook Kalkan. So far so good, but there are parts that are not as good. The pool area is very cramped, the loungers are touching all around the pool, this is because the pool area was built when there was only the apartments, now there is also the hotel, so they have wedged in more loungers. We have visited different places in Turkey over the years and the one thing in every hotel, was how friendly the staff were. The same cannot be said here, unless you are spending money there every day and night, then the manager is the nicest guy you can meet. The younger members of staff at least tried to make an effort, as some don't speak very good english. The one issue I had was how early they start clearing the pool area, it is open until 7pm, yet every night they start stacking the sun loungers up around you, anytime from 5pm! it made you feel like you were in the way. One time the manager even came over and instead of asking us in a polite way, if we wouldn't mind moving over the other side, simply said " if you want to stay around the pool, then you will have to move" then walked off! never experienced this in any other resort hotel. There was also a guy with long hair, another manager, who was a nice guy and always said hello. We did speak to several people who had put drinks/food etc on there room and all of them had issues with being over charged. we always paid for everything up front, as we had read similar issues on here.

The resort itself is lovely if not a bit steep! loads of places to eat, if you want a rooftop restaurant, Girondo was the best and nicest, but there are plenty of places to choose from. The rooftop restaurants are not expensive but there not cheap by Turkey standards, on par if not more expensive than England.we paid about 120 lira for 2 starters,2 mains and wine. The restaurants on the way into centre, not as nice to look at, but the food is great and at least half the price of rooftop, so we mixed it up each night between the 2. Best from these is Hunkar kebab, but you will have to wait for table, but worth it, alibaba was also good and photo pizzawas excellent and cheapest EFES 4lira. All these restaurants were about 60 lira for the same as rooftop restaurants but more wine and beer!.

The walk into town is very hard during the day, due to the heat. At night it's not to bad, just very humid. Coming back up is challenging but we did it most nights, got a taxi a couple of times, about 12lira. The market is really good, every Thursday, one of the best we have been to in Turkey, fresh fruit at very cheap prices and loads of genuine fakes! We went to palm beach club a couple of times, good day out and food is good and reasonable. We also hired a little boat, can fit 4 people and you drive yourself, so we went to some bays and had a swim, really good value, ask at the beach club.

Overall really enjoyed Kalkan, nice centre loads of places to eat and drink. People are nice in the town and can't do enough. Also recommend Turkish shave, amazing. Wouldn't go back as we never do, but one of the nice resorts in Turkey, prefer Dalyan though.
