“Not Deluxe!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Spent 3 weeks here in June/July. Fortunately, we spent every day at either one of the beach clubs or on a boat trip so didn't need to be there a great deal. It was a lot further out of the village than we thought and for us it was too hot and too steep to be bothered with the walk so it was a case of taxit everywhere. Taxis are not cheap and to get to and from the village it cost 12 lire which is about £4.50 each time. The lounge area didn't have any air con, the fridge was clean inside but very grimy on outside. The bathrooom always had a kind of unpleasant drain smell and the shower was almost impossible to get in and out of if you are more than a size 14! The decor was very down market and the bed sheet far too small.

On the plus side, towels were clean (if holey on occassions) and bed was clean. Also, because of the distance from the village, the hotel provided a coutesy bus 4 times a day which saved on taxis. The weekly Turkish night appeared to be very popular too. The reception lady was lovely and friendly.

In conclusion; if you want an inexpensive hotel with a big pool, very child friendly and your not too bothered about being a fair distance out of the village then you will probably like it. Just be porepared to be up early to put your towels down by the pool if that is where you like to spend your holiday!!

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room or else you will find yourself facing someone elses balcony

Stayed at the Samira deluxe from the 10th till the 21st July. Kalkan is an absolutely beautiful resort, non-threatening which being two young girls was perfect.
The hotel is well kept, rooms and swimming pool cleaned daily. free air-con which is very necessary. Towels and sheets were changed regularly, not everyday but that would be silly.
The majority of the hotel staff are wonderful, so friendly and kind and willing to go out of there way for you. They constantly ensure that you are okay and you can have a good laugh with them. In particular Yusef (joesph), Ertuğrul (hector) and Mehmet. Although some of the staff can be a little pervy, especailly to 16-25year olds. So if you are young and in particular blonde, be very wary as some of them can be quite persistent). But as long as you have your wits about you this really isn't a problem. After we made it clear that we were not those types of girls, they respected us and didn't push it.
If you decide to charge things to your room, make sure you keep track of what you get as we were silly and did this without making any record and feel we were overcharged but didn't have anything to back it up. I would personally recommend paying straight away or at the end of each day.
The location of the hotel means you have absolutely stunning views but it is up a steep hill (like the most of kalkan) we always walked down which really wasn't a problem. You do have to cross a main road but it isn't very busy so we didn't find it an issue. We always got a taxi home as we were too full from all the yummy food to struggle back up the hill. Taxis cost a maximum of 12lira which is like £4 so not expensive at all.
The lovely thing about the hotel is all the people there. Its a lovely sociable hotel. Not in your face but we've come back having met such lovely people from the age of 2- 68.
We will definitely be returning next year if not before in September.
I truly recommend this hotel to everyone. I don't personally understand the negative reviews and can only think they reflect on the person writing them.

The Samira Deluxe is located high above the town of Kalkan (which is all very hilly), and it has super views over the town and the sea. We had a lovely reception from Fatima, and the staff were all helpful and friendly throughout the holiday. The whole place was kept spotlessly clean. The main outside area is given over to a super pool, with a small area for young children sectioned off, sunbeds around the pool, a table tennis table and pool table, and a bar and outdoor eating area. We had our evening meal there on several occasions and found the food and service to be excellent every time. They have a pizza oven and we sometimes had pizza at lunchtime, either at the tables or delivered to our apartment. Really good food and good value.

We stayed in one of the apartments and paid extra for a sea view . The apartment was nice - furniture was basic but comfortable and quite adequate for our stay and the cleaners were absolutely lovely, puttng out fresh towels each day, emptying bins and keeping everything clean. The view from the balcony was also lovely. However, all the sea view apartments overlook the pool and bar area, which is between the apartment block and the town/sea. When we first arrived the music in the bar (and therefore around the whole pool area) was VERY loud, and relentless from early morning until 2am. The apartments have double glazing but even with the windows and door closed (fortunately the bedrooms have air conditioning) we could still hear the loud thumping of the heavy bass notes. We couldn't sleep, and we needed earplugs sitting round the pool. I recorded the noise timestamped until 2am and complained to Fatima. To be fair, following my (and I understand several other) complaints, the music became more varied and the volume was turned down after midnight. The bar is serviced by young lads and there were quite a few young people staying up in the bar until the early hours, so I guess noise will always be a problem. So if you have booked an apartment with a sea view be aware that you might be kept awake!
I have read a number of accounts about the distance (and difficulty) of getting from the Samira Deluxe to the town and back. We are in our late 50s and not especially fit (although we do go to the gym), but even though the weather was very hot indeed we only ever needed to take a taxi twice. In fact we felt the walk back up the (very steep) hill burned off the calories from our meals!
The only downside to the holiday for us was the music - most definitely there for a much younger audience we felt.

Room Tip: I can't comment on the hotel, but apartments with a sea view all overllok the pool area and nois...

We stayed at the Samira Deluxe in early july 2012, and had a fantastic stay..
The hotel was lovely, very well run, with very attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and a special mention must go to Josef and his staff in the Pool Bar/restaurant, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Food in the restaurant was very good, with a great choice of meals, and prices were reasonable.
We stayed in room 705 which had a side sea view of Kalkan Bay which is simply stunning. The room was lovely, and very very clean.
The hotel had a good mix of people, lots of couples, and families with older teenagers, there was no rowdiness at all, very relaxing. The same could be said for the town as a whole.
Kalkan itself is a superb destination, full of English people, but with a lovely Turkish feel to it. Loads of restaurants, all with lovely views of the bay from the terrace. We particularly like Mussakka where we were treated like royalty. The walk into town from the hotel is a 15 stroll downhill, and in that heat we'd definately recommend the 11TL Taxi ride back
We will be back at the Samira Deluxe, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break in nice surroundings

The hotel was a long way from the center of Kalkan. The taxis charged £6 each time for a 3 minute trip which adds up. Too far to walk back in day with the heat and too dark and up hill to walk at night. The walk is very steep
The breakfast was awful. They only offered rolls no fresh bread which Turkey is famous for. Only water melon no other fruits. Watered down orange juice. It was clear they did not put thought or pride into it
The hotel was spotlessly clean but it was very loud in the evenings and they did bingo and kareoke. I don't do that in UK so I don't want that on holiday.
Kalkan has so many gorgeous restaurants, bars, shops, ambiance and great beach clubs. This hotel is for people who just want to stay at the hotel, in day and evening and not experience Kalkan and just mix with British hotel guests and not experience Turkey , the amazing food in Kalkan etc
It was my worst nightmare. The managers were the rudest people ever all they cared about was getting as much money from the clients they could and I had to make several complaints that they charged me for water I had supposedly had from my room. many people in the hotel also said they were charged for drinks they never had. They also don't provide a room you can change and have a shower in for late departures. I have traveled all over the world and have never had this experience before.
The bar staff were friendly but not professional. It is a typical package hotel for the British tourists.
It will not stop me going back to Kalkan as it is stunning but I ost certainly would not stay in this hotel ever again.

Top Tips:
The bus station only which was great if you wanted to catch a bus to Kas, Patara, Kaputas beach thats it

“The hotel and the rooms were very clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and the receptionist helpful. We struggled to get a brolly round the pool a couple of times and it was annoying that some people left towels on sunbeds for hours before returning to them when we needed somewhere to sit. The music was our main complaint. The majority of the guests sitting at the pool bar in the evenings were in their 40s and 50s yet they continuously played boom boom dance music. We asked for other tracks and we were encouraged to make a list for the DJ yet never once did they change the music or play any of our requests. The staff were playing music for themselves and not for the guests. We kept our own record of what we had spent in the bar and hotel restaurant each day as some people were saying they were over charged but our bill was spot on at the end of the holiday. The walk into town and back was a bit of a struggle in the heat because it was quite steep so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, unless you are prepared to get taxis, which we did at night on a couple of occassions - around £5.00 a trip. There is a hotel shuttle bus 4 times a day but we didn't use it as it never coincided with the times we wanted to go into town. The bus station is close by so easy to get around on the dolmus buses. Kalkan is beautiful and the view from the hotel is magnificent. There are lots of good restaurants in town and we never had a bad meal.« less

“Top Tip:CHOPS restaurant on the other side of the mountain - if you book a table they will come down and pick you up and bring you back when you are ready. A nice change from going into town.We booked our trips with Unlimited - they are in town - Tlos and Saklikante Gorge was a good trip - only 8 of us on it in a nice minibus with a good guide. And we did Kekova sunken city and Simena island. This was around 25 - 30 people on the boat and the lunch was excellent

We have recently returned from Kalkan having stayed at the Samira Deluxe. The hotel and apartments were kept spotlessly clean, all of the staff worked tirelessly throughout the day and into the evening to ensure that guests were well catered for. The location above the town was welcome as it captured any breeze in the evening and the shuttle bus which ran at certain times throughout the day was very welcome. Special mention must go to Yusuf who managed the pool bar etc for his friendly and efficient demeanour and of course to Fatima who is an example to all of how to do things right. This is our second visit to the Samira as indeed it seemed to be for many others. Well done and thank you.
