Kalkan is a very pretty location with cobbled streets and lots of restaurants and shops. My husband and I stayed at the Samira apartments recently. The apartments are located in a hilly area and would not be suitable for persons with walking difficulties unless just staying in the apartments and not going into the Kalkan resort area. The Samira Deluxe hotel is situated further up the hill and you have to cross a main road to get to the main resort area. The apartments have a separate bathroom with shower, separate bedroom and kitchenette with table and chairs and sofas and a balcony and air conditioning. When staying at the apartments on a self catering basis you can purchase drinks etc from supermarkets and store them in your room, if you stay on a bed and breakfast basis this is not allowed. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and we had a real laugh with them. Many of the guests at the apartments were repeat guests and had been there many times although this was our first time at the apartments.

We were informed that the prices in Kalkan are slightly more expensive than in the rest of Turkey but we did not find them expensive. Beer in the resort and at the apartments was 5TL (approx £2) and wine 7-8TL. Meals varied, we stayed at the apartments by the pool at lunchtimes and there is a good selection of snacks and meals and prices are very reasonable and with a drink we never spent more than £20 for the 2 of us. Meals in the report varied and could be as cheap as £20 for 2 with a drink for a basic meal with starter. The prices get more expensive the nearer you get to the harbour and the most expensive meal we had was £60 for the 2 of us but this was with starters and steaks for main courses and a drink.

We would definitely go back as the resort itself is very attractive. We also had a Turkish bath, massage and facial at a place which is behind the Yale supermarket (75TL ea - approx £30)

Where do we start????...... all we can really say is we dont want to put a blinding review up as i dont want any one else to find this jem.....lol!.......... its the best holiday we have ever had. the rooms are top notch the staff are amazing and will go right outta there way to make your stay the best ever, ie., joseph the head waiter, ferit the night time receptionist, mussa the bar man. ozun the manager and the grounds man and 1 little young waiter who we have forgotten the name of (sorry!) but we refered to him as smiley. they all helped to make our holiday what it was, (fantasic!!!!!!)
the pool is lovely plenty of beds. the food is also very good. and as we had read on other reviews........ yes dogs do bark at night, but if it keeps you awake there is something wrong with you. (we know for a fact that dogs bark all the time in the uk!!!!!) and you can only hear them if you try to, and keep your windows open but then your air conditioning wont work properly....hello.
Its a nice little walk in to town 10 mins tops it is steep if you are old, but we are in our 40s and we both found it a pleasnt walk as did some of the older couples.
The town is fantastic with 1 night club if that takes your fancy mojoit bar, just ask for dennis the manager he will sit with you and chat for hours, he made us feel so welcome.
We found a lovely place to eat called ''oz adana'' resturant, a couple can eat with a bottle of wine for £20! and you get a free starter so be warned if you dont eat much!!!.
We would definatly recomend the gorge walk which also does the RUBBER DINGEY RAPPIDS (with breath taking views!!) with a meal included in the price and your transfers from and back to the hotel.
We also went to xantos, what an amazing historical place even if you dont like history, (but we do!) but we will say we found a little old man with rosary beads, (a local!) we asked questions and he took us around showing us not only the history but the flora and fauna, he was lovely! please if you do give him some pennys it is WELL worth it becouse he will tell you more than a tour guide can ever tell you!
All in all we loved it that much we are going back next year to get married in september, Home from home.
AND A HUGE BIG THANK YOU to ALL the staff for making jons birthday so special!!!!
debbie and john.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room!

The Samira Deluxe Hotel is an excellent place to stay. It is clean bright and very friendly. The staff work very hard to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfast was really good, plenty of choice, other meals freshly cooked and good value. It was a good walk into town and the harbour, but once over the main road worth it as plenty to see. An great resort to explore the area around. Dan the local rep was very helpful and informative. We particularly enjoyed the trip to the mountains and seeing the real Turkish countryside, villages and locals. I would have no hesitation returning here.

Room Tip: A rooms good but ask for a sea view.

just returned from our second year at this hotel/apartments, and had a fantastic time. last year we stayed in hotel which was new and very modern and immaculate. this year we stayed in self catering apartments which were also immaculate if a little dated. but have been informed they are having a full refurb this year , but could not fault. The swimming pool and bar area are lovely and the staff would go out of there way to make your stay a happy one. shuttle sevice into town helps as its a 15min walk into town over a busy main road, however this would not put me off staying in this hotel next year.

We was in an apartment self catering. Room was ok but looked old. Toilet was far to close to the shower. Shower was tiny. Nearly everyone we spoke to was happier in the hotel part. Hotel staff are all great especially Fatima who works so hard. Only one of the bar staff could do with a bit of he push he looked like he did not want to be there. Bus into town was set all the wrong times. I felt it fitted in with them not the traveler. Sunbeds were to close and not enough parasols. I did enjoy my stay in Kalkan very much but must have spent 200 lira on taxis back to the hotel. I have already booked next year in the more central Samira Gardens. Which looks lovely.

We stayed at the Samira Deluxe for a week in mid August. We stayed in the new hotel, block A, which was bright and modern with a lovely bathroom, we were also given a sea view room without requesting one. We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was basic but fresh and adequate (could have done with a wider selection of fresh fruit). We ate lunch a couple of times at the pool bar which was nice enough and fairly cheap!! The swimming pool was lovely and big and there always enough sun loungers available. The walk from the Hotel into town was about 15 mins and was quite steep, but we happily walked into town each evening and on a couple of occasions in the day, but we did always opt for the taxi back!!!! the service we received at the Samira Deluxe was excellent, both at reception and at the pool bar / restaurant.

We loved Kalkan as a resort, it was quiet and romantic, but still with plenty to do. The food was absolutely amazing at all of the restaurants we visited (particularly Gourmet and the Olive Tree). We would highly recommend a boat trip and a visit to the Saklikent Gorge (with rafting).

We will definately return to Kalkan and would have no hesitateions recommending the Samira Deluxe Hotel. Next time we return we would like to stay in a villa and possibly hire a car so that we could explore a bit further afield.

Room Tip: Stay in the hotel, Block A and request a sea view room!!!
