Mavi & Ani Pansiyon
Ranked #23 of 219 Antalya B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 6, 2013

This B&B is co-operated by two brothers, both of whom I met. First, the B&B is in an excellent location right in the heart of old town Antalya. Once I arrived, one of the brothers greeted me and showed me up to my room on the unfinished terrace where there are three small bedrooms looking out onto a shared patio. No one else was staying there for the first few nights, so he let me choose whichever room I wanted. The rooms are not created equal: all are different sized, two have two beds and one has only one bed (which is also the only room that has a window to the outside, the other two are interior rooms). I chose the one bed/one window room. It was nothing fancy; no tv, no minifridge, no closet - which is fine with me, I don't really need much. It does have an a/c unit, thankfully. Every room has a private bathroom/shower. Your bathroom and shower are one and the same. You shower on the same floor with the toilet and the sink. The bathroom door doubles as a shower curtain. The bathroom wasn't fully cleaned when I arrived. Someone had used the toilet which was full of old urine, and urine stains were still on the seat. Breakfast was really strange. There is no set time. It's ready when they're ready. Usually after 8:15-9am. The first two mornings, there were only 5 people staying there, so they made us each individual plates (no buffet). You get what they give you. You would go hungry if you didn't like it. One out of five mornings I got an omelet, which was awesome, but it really depends on how they feel. Most times it's just bread, tomatoes, cucumber, a fruit, olives, cheese, jam and honey. Weekend breakfast was a small buffet of the same foods plus yogurt and watermelon. So positives, some negatives.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 1st floor, not the second floor (terrace). These are bigger and nicer and I th...

I was guest of this pension for 3 nights in May. really comfortable place, clean and well furbished. I had some troubles with the air con first night and Aroun (hope the spell is correct) provided me another room for the night. they organize also tours (I want to Olympos, Chimera...etc...) lead by another guy who works in the pension Muhammed. really great time not having time constraints or timetable to respect. So perfect. At night they organize bbq in the yard, fresh fish or meat.
Cutting the long story short really good place where to stay with really friendly staff that will make your staying even better.

We stayed at Mavi & Ani Pansiyon in April 2013.
The location is perfect, in the old town of Kaleici
just up from the gorgeous views above the old Roman harbour
of blue Mediterranean with snow topped mountains in the background.
The walk to Hadrian's Gate is around 5 minutes through the ancient town at a quick pace
which takes you to the new district. You can take a tram from there for TL1.5 (approx 80 cents Australian or US) to the fabulous Antalya Museum which should not be missed.

The pension is run by Haroun and his brother. I didn't have much contact with the brother
but Haroun I found to be charming and obliging and happy to provide information or assist with any difficulties. He speaks English very well as does the delightful young Syrian man Muhammed who works there.

The house itself is attractive – old Ottoman revamped – and the garden courtyard is picturesque
and may have had old Roman stones as the base for the walls. I have some pictures at my Picasa site in the Antalya album which is public. The breakfast is generous in the Turkish style (cheeses, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, bread etc, but with the addition of omelet, a welcome change after 2 weeks of boiled eggs. Haroun arranged for the pension minibus to drop us at the bus company office for pick up to the terminal which was very convenient. In short, the smiling service is great, the location could not be better and the house itself is attractive, comfortable and reasonably priced.

I am sure that this place's better reviews must come from a time in the season when the guys here actually make an effort - which they very much did not for our stay. Starting with the positives, the best thing about the place was the Syrian worker, who was a joy to spend time with. He picked us up from the airport (20 Euro transfer one way) and was very friendly and informative during our stay. Now for the (mainly negatives)...

When we arrived, our room was far from ready and one of the owners was not in any way apologetic about this - it was as though this was very normal procedure. We had booked a double room with sea view.terrace, but were not informed that this would be shared with two other rooms in the same area. We ended up taking another room at a lower rate, which while fine, was rather basic and the shower took forever to get warm - if at all. We had to request the water boiler be turned on so we could have a hot shower - ridiculous! There was also no toilet paper, nor any toiletries of any kind - not even soap. The towels had holes in them and were as stiff as cardboard. As for breakfast, that was also very poor. We once asked for some tea/coffee and were told it was not possible. The guys there were more interested in doing the place up for the summer, rather than regular guests.

Avoid - there are far better places in the old city, which is lovely to walk around and get lost in.

Enjoy!

We enjoyed our stay at Mavi & Ani. It was overwhelmingly a great stay - comfortable rooms (though, very small), kind owners, very yummy breakfasts and a great location. The only downside was that the shower water was tepid at best.

All in all, a great stay though!

Mavi & Ani is a Turkish Pansiyon with lots of feeling. We found the rooms very clean but basic as a Turkish Pansiyon is. Breakfast was fresh and plentyful again Kahvalti (Turkish Breakfast). The pricing was competative and Host and staff very helpfull and trusting. The location is wonderful. Close to the sea and all historical places. Kaleici is so full of character and great to explore. The area outside Kaleici is also good for Local /Turkish eating, close by Attaturk Cadessi is a place to start. A favourite for me is Iskender Kabab and the number of places to sample such made it heavenly. Tram along to Konyalti is close and cheap to use. The Ottoman styling was good for us and the Mavi & Ani did us proud. teşekkür ederim! Alan & Pauline ( Fethiye / Kendal)

Room Tip: A very good Turkish experience indeed.
