Kervansaray Lara Hotel
Ranked #192 of 234 Hotels in Antalya
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Before reading this please understand that the British are hard to please!

The Hotel Itself
The hotel itself is clean, pleasant, and on the large side of life. We were lucky and had a room on the first floor, right opposite the lift! When we arrived (about 9/10pm when it was dark) we had no idea how to turn our lights on (by putting your room key in the little slip by the light switches), or use the air con and we had to wait for the member of staff who was bringing our suitcases up to show us.

House keeping came every day, and would always return later if we asked her to.. Although one of my friends that I was travelling with noticed that her bedding still had the same dirty mark on 2 days after the mark had appeared.

Commenting in a previous review, there is quite a bit of walking involved to and from your room to the pool, beach etc.. However, after spending all day/night eating and drinking the walking was a good thing!

Being a bit of an exercise freak, I did make use of the gym on several occasions.. It was not to the standard of a gym I would use at home, but then I never expected it to be. The only fault I have about it is that it did not have any air con in the room designated to the gym.

The pools were all in good condition + the general maintenance of the hotel was good.

The Food and The Alcohol
For value for money, you can not complain about the food or the alcohol. The food was outstanding and every night there were always a variety of options that were available! The alcohol servings were at least 3 times a normal serving to a British serving.. We were drunk every night! I spent most of my time by the pool thinking about what I would be eating next!

The Animation Team
The animation team worked tiredlessly hard all day to keep guests happy. One of the team members "Zhan" was outstanding and always put a lot of effort into everything he did! The evening entertainment always provided us with something different, however, the day time entertainment was very repetitive.

We ventured out to the "biggest night club in Antalya" one night with a member of the animation team and several other guests of the hotel! It was awful! The place was overpriced, dead, and full of creepy looking men. The rep that came along with us also was refusing to allow us to get a taxi back to the hotel or even move around the club! The next day the rep from the animation team that was with us that night, approached us about a pool party that evening that was starting at 2am, he told us to bring our bikinis! It turned out he was arranging a private pool party for himself, the three of us and one of his creepy friends.. We did not attend!

The animation team also mentioned words like "beach party" or "pool party" or "white party" but every type of party they had after the evenings entertainment was simply a DJ playing music in the outside disco area, so don't get to excited!

The Hotel Staff
The staff really have no limits, and would be fired if they worked in the UK. The bar staff may appear to be friendly but really don't take no for an answer, this then becomes pervish! The receptionist came to our room with our transfer information, walked in (uninvited) and started making arrangements for taking us out for the evening. Other members of staff were also over friendly, and wanting to know to many details about you + wanting to meet up with you! This was the biggest off put of the holiday!

Finally... The Location
Well basically its lucky the hotel has 3 massive pools, a beach, lots of bar choices, tennis courts, football courts etc as the location is awful! All the hotel is surrounded by is other hotels or abondoned shack like houses. There are some local shops further down the road, which had nobody in them at all, just the business owners outside trying to leer you inside.
We also took the hotels shuttle bus into Antalya, we were dropped off in the middle of nowhere, everything around us was in derelict condition and we ended up getting a taxi back to the hotel several hours before the bus was due to pick us up.

Overall.... This would be a good family holiday if you just planned to stay in the hotel, but don't make the journey here if you are a young British Female wanting a bit of atmosphere and to shop with her friends!

Between hotel and the beach there are more than 500m (2 football terrains), and the distance between rooms connected with blue elevator and the restaurant (at the other side of hotel) is additional 200m. Can you imagine us going to breakfast (200m), than back to room to get staff for beach (200m), than to beach (200+500m), than back to room (when the heat is high) (500+200), that to a lunch (200m), back to room for a nap (200m) than to beach (200+500)……and back to room ( 200+500) and to a dinner (200)….you can count meters. All in all that was extremely tiresome for me and my 4 years old kid.

Room Tip: ask for rooms connected with red elevators.

My boyfriend and I and another couple we went with stayed at this hotel for a week on the 25th June 2013. It was the first time I had been to Turkey however the other couple we went with stayed in the hotel next door called The Miracle last year. They raved how good that hotel was and the location which is why we booked to stay in the same area.

The service was good we found that most of the bar staff and reception staff couldn't speak a lot of English however when you are staying in a foreign country how can you expect them to speak fluent English when its not their native language. We got a phone call in our room from guest relations on the first 3 days of our stay to see how we were getting on and if we had any questions or requirements which we found was nice. On the second day we also got a surprise visit from room service with a bottle of red wine and a basket of fruit as a welcome gift which I've never had before!

The food was always brilliant and we looked forward to breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. For breakfast there was always pancakes, yes there was a queue for them but that's understandable as normally they are everyone's favourite. The beach bar also had lunch time snacks which were delicious however not as much choice as the main restaurant. The only negative point I have about the food is you could only get ice cream during the day was between 3 and 4 and there was normally a long queue but its not a massive issue.

The rooms are lovely!! They have great lights that go through the floor. The maids attended the rooms everyday and laid the blankets out in different shapes. We got new towels everyday and the mini bar is stocked with a couple of bottles of water, juice and a bottle of coke! The beds were really comfy. We did get a twin room but its easier enough to push the beds together! The air con was slightly noisey but easy to sleep through and we actually got cold every night where we had it on too low, so works brilliantly.

The location is great. Just a short walk to the local shops. You can access the beach straight from the hotel which has a variety of water sports.

The spa was really nicely decorated and fairly priced. We had a Turkish Bath with peeling and foam on the first day of the trip which completely scrubs your skin ready for the 40 degrees heat that Turkey gives you!

The entertainment team was great and played loads of games at the pool everyday which kept everyone entertained. They played music by the pool. Came round to get people involved. There was also an arcade to play in which had a pool table, air hockey, boxing machine (which kept the boys happy).

All in all I couldn't fault this hotel and I had the best holiday ever! I would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again. We are actually planning to book another holiday for September and I feel this hotel is going to be hard to beat!!!

We booked this holiday about 5 weeks before travelling and It wasn't a planned break, we just decided to get away from the awful British weather!
We picked this hotel because it was a great price. I read the reviews after booking and did consider changing hotels...but I'm so glad i didn't because me and my family had a lovely week long holiday at this hotel!

The hotel was lovely and the food excellent. My daughter has a dairy intolerance, so there is a variety of foods that she cant eat, but she was always able to find something to eat. The best night for food was 'fish night', I've never tasted such lovely food. (and I've been to a lot of hotels around the world)

Other positives of this hotel are; the staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean.
Also there are fridges located all around the hotel complex which hold bottled water, I think this is great.

The weather was fantastic, very hot!

Finally ignore the negative comments, as this hotel isn't bad. We found that its a perfect hotel to go to for a short break!

We have just enjoyed a fantastic, one week holiday at this great hotel. We are a well travelled, ,proffesional couple and cant understand the negative comments, apart from, they must be very negative people who have obviously nothing more to do........how sad. We do 3 AI holidays per year in different countries and this is our first in Turkey, could not fault it. Food great, drinks acceptable, entertaiment first class, service flauless and the location to beach, perfect.
There is even a buggy to take you around the hotel grounds.
I met the manager there just thank him and his staff for giving us a great break.
We also met some really lovely people.
Rooms big and very clean, pools are in great condition, and overall, for not a lot of money, excellent value.
Dont read the negative comments, we did, and nearly did not go, really pleased we did.
Go and have a vacation of a lifetime without breaking your bank. You wont reget it
Again many thanks to Egemen M Yurek and his brilliant staff.

we have stayed in this hotel two years ago and we enjoyed it that much we decided to go back again this year. when we arrived there was abit of mix up with our rooms but it was soon sorted out. it was only because my parents room was on the 9th floor and my dads scared of heights. vwhen we went to the room we found a bottle of red wine, a big bowl of fruit, razor, tooth brush, tooth paste, sewing kit, slippers and a bath robe each with we didnt have before which really made my day.
we visited the a la cart resturants you can go once a week. the first week we went to the mexican which was lovely. the folllowing week we went to book the mediteranian and they said it was a free pass and thomson had provided it and wasnt part of the once a week thing so me and my boyfriend went to that and that was nice also. we liked it that much we went again on the day of departure.
breakfast, Lunch times, and dinner times are manic and i think they should have some sort of system where its in a sitting or something as because most of the people dont understand the concept of queing. however all the food was lovely and lots of choice. especially the beach bar where there did really nice kababs, chicken, pizza etc.

what does put this hotel down though is the thomson rep STACEY dont book any excursions because the waterpark was cancelled and waited a week for the money back after being lied to and conned.in my eyes she shouldnt be doing the job she doesnt turn up on time, or doesnt even bother turning up at all. the welcome meeting lasted about 2 minutes. and after complaining about the waterpark another rep phoned her and was laughing behind our backs about the situation as we needed to money for a taxi home. in the process of making a complaint about her.

Please dont read the bad reviews because it is really a lovely hotel,To sum it up had a great holiday was really hot and cant wait to return in the future.

Room Tip: we was on 4th floor we had a great view. doesnt matter which room you have all have a pool view and...
