“A delightful surprise at every turn”
Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

Rarely have I stayed at a hotel which has such 'fun' decor as this -- surprises everywhere -- apparently unfinished columns and ceilings, funky coloured walls, doors which swing to close alternately the bathroom and the toilet, a tower block of suites which mysteriously rotate. Add to this the friendliness of the staff, the location right next to the Mediterranean on one side and a series of bars and restaurants on the other, a Turkish Bath experience which comes with the room cost, excellent wifi throughout the hotel, and adequate number of laptops with internet connectivity next to the restaurant -- not hidden in a Business Centre -- and you have facilities which should set a benchmark for user-friendliness for other hotels. Breakfasts were the best we have had in Turkey with a cook flipping omelettes which is a joy to watch, and extensive dinner buffet by the poolside. There is a large swimming pool and extensive well-kept gardens leading to the sea. A bus-ride to the Old Town costs 1.50 Lira, taxi-ride for 15 Lira. A memorable experience for a weekend. Wish we could stay longer.

I have stayed in many hotels all around the world and this is absolutely one of my favorite hotels ever. The service and the quality is amazing for the price you pay. It is quite close to the city centre of Antalya and not too far away from Lara beaches. The hotel is perfect for organizing meetings and events.

The Antalya Marmara Hotel runs as a 5-star. I would gladly give it the 5 stars but it would be misleading. If you ever go there you would know what I mean. It is an outstanding hotel and it does stand out against your conventional idea of a 5 star. So I am not denying it the 5 stars, I simply think it should be rated in an entirely different rating system. I call it the “Funky Five-Star” so here is what I giving the five funky stars for.
Funky Star #1: The Reception. It sets the theme on the bright sunny driveway in the shape of a light blue 1960s Chevrolet Impala parked against a background of a bright pink wall. The reception hall is nicely balanced in more shady, elegant tones, the staff is dressed in the soave style of Bryan Ferry at the times of “The Bride Stripped Bare” but they smile more than him.
Funky Star #2: I am giving this in a chronological order, because the next thing you are probably going to see is your room. Be prepared to be surprised. Be prepared to be surprised. This is not a typing error. If the style of the reception shows elements of Bryan Ferry, the rooms look like a stage set for the whole Roxy Music band – when Bryan Eno was still with them feather boa and lurex vest and all. It’s just fabulous. Pink, turquoise, lavender, canary yellow on the walls and funky furniture made from raw driftwood and nicely polished acacia wood.
Funky Star #3 is a big one and goes to the architecture (French architect Christian Allart) of the main building and layout. The architectural style is a very well balanced combination of “classic” Bauhaus and modern “German Industry”. The shape of the 12 storey building which by the way has 20 levels, is perfectly matched by the layout of the front yard and the true Olympic pool in the back of the building and the dining hall with swings hanging from the ceiling, a sleek bar, a library that reaches to the 10m high ceiling a graffiti pillar and all perfectly matching the timber steel furnishing. Also out the back of the building is another 4 storey building with additional all ocean view accommodation. I am sure there are few Fibonacci numbers hidden in the proportions of all these architectural elements.
The next funky star #4 I give for the outdoor facilities. Dig this: the hotel has 21 storeys, the front entrance and reception is on level 7, on level 6 is the dining hall and exit out of the back of the building to the pool, garden. The lower levels then house the sauna, gym, massage and wellness centre, and of course a Turkish bath. Also from level 6 you reach the private ocean front facilities at the bottom of the cliff via a little rotunda in the gardens with an elevator. The elevator has only three stops: 6, 1 and 0 – ground level. Exit underground 100m from the shore. The way to the swimming area, snack bar, sun chairs, showers and not to forget the stingray scuba diving club goes through an underground purpose built tunnel (what’s on level 1 is a secret).
Now to funky star #5: really it should be a gem rather than a star. It took me two days to figure it out and when I did I could not believe what I saw. If you want to figure it out yourself, stop reading here, go out the back, sit by the pool and watch. Look for something BIG and unusual. It will take you about 2 hours to figure it out. Otherwise, take a good look at that 4 storey, dodecagon shaped building out the back, the one with the tortoise and tropical reef fish images on it. Keep looking. See anything unusual? Look at the large mirrors on ground level – see it? See it moving? The entire building is slowly rotating, I would say at about 4 hours for a full rotation. This I thought was so hip, so cool that this hotel should definitely deserve 5 stars, even if they are given for a little unconventional reasons, but that’s just like the Antalya Marmara.

Room Tip: Great seaview rooms. Very comfortable, all you need is ... there. Try one of the rooms in the rotat...

Second time in Antalya and second time in Marmara. The experience was the same great in every detail. Sure, for those who need the noisy companies and night disco this hotel is hardly suitable. And who needs a quiet relaxing healthy break, especially couples, they will be fascinated by a beautiful park and great views, modern art deco and elegant service. We are also impressed by wonderful beach with wild stones, big pool nearby the revolving loft and perfect room service. The staff were polite and friendly, the food excellent. Will certainly be looking to return. Come relax in the Marmara hotel, it will be your right choice either. You will not regret and even thank me for the recommendation :)

In addition to the other previous generous reviews I would like to add some details that some people may appreciate and increase their desire to choose this very pleasant hotel: a make up mirror in the bathroom (not many hotels in Turkey have it). The wifi is very good compared to other hotels I' ve been this year in Turkey. There plenty space and shelves (although the furniture is very simple) to put your stuff, handy and sufficient powerpoints, although there is no powerpoint in the bathroom.

Room Tip: If you have a room viewing the sea, and you happen to behere on Saturday, you may see a wedding cele...
