“Turkish Delight”
Reviewed May 8, 2011

Just returned from the perfect week at this wonderful hotel. One bad point to get over was breakfast, only in respect of my children, the cereal and milk were not for them but the rest was fine.

There is nothing else even slightly bad to say about Royal Wings, it really was perfect. The fun fair and children's aqua park were just right for our 5 & 2 year old. The kiosk food selection was brilliant, jacket spud, kebab, pizza, burger, pasta and so on was ample. Dinner was very impressive of an evening with lots of choice and more than one area serving that choice so no queueing.

The evening entertainment was incredible and very professional, mini disco proceeded the family shows and the little ones loved it!

There is just too much too tell of how amazing this place is! Going back in July is space. A very happy family holiday with tonnes to do!

Amazing 5* :-)

We were looking for a week om no worries, great service, good food and drink, with a great view -and lots of stuff for the kids to do.

Royal Wings has all this, and more. The whole week was spent just enjoying ourselves with our friends, lounging in all the diffferent activiy and eating/drinking areas of the hotel and grounds. We tried to engage the kids (11, and 12) with family fun with the numerous activities available, but they preferred to do their own thing in the water park, swimming pool or gaming areas.

Even though the service is all inclusive with the availability of copious amounts of alcohol, we did not experience one single drunken person or raucous exchange - nor see a single person with any sign of inebriation. It's a calm place for families and couples. We did not see more than a couple of teenagers.

The hotel and grounds are spotless and continuously policed for litter and kept tidy. The friendly staff were always on hand to answer questions or serve food and drinks. There was never any problem finding a sun bed in the area of our choice - even though the hotel was booked solid. The activity managers were very forward in a non-agressive way, and we were often ecncouraged vigorously to join in. I would specifically like to mention "Alex" who was a ton of fun and very good at staging impromptu activities with anyone that happened to be near.

The hotel also boasts their own shows. We saw their version of Michael Jackson - and it was great, with great costumes, dancing, special effects and stage art. Great fun and very well executed in the hotel's outdoor amphitheater.

The whole experience is pretty "western" so if you're after a more "Turkish experience" I would suggest another place. The nearby Antalya isn't exceptionally charming.

So, this is absolutely one of the best 1 week relaxation getaways we have ever experienced, and we will definitely be returning.

We stayed at the Royal Wings Hotel for a week over Easter 2011. We chose the hotel primarily because of the fantastic facilities for kids (ours are six and three), and in that respect we were not disappointed. Unfortunately our enjoyment of them was cut short when out six year old broke his collar bone on day three in an accident on the water slides (he didn't move away from the bottom of the slide quick enough and another kid came down and crashed into him). This was just unlucky - not the hotel's fault in any way - and it is a testament to them that we still enjoyed the rest of our holiday as much as we did despite this disaster (which was very quickly and efficiently dealt with by the hotel's medical centre and associated hospital).

So with that out of the way, on to the review. This was our first trip to Turkey, but I believe in many places it is both beautiful and cultural. Lara Beach is neither, being a narrow strip of five star hotels on the beach, with a souless strip of residential high rises and shopping malls on the other side of the main road. Antalya itself had a very pleasant harbour and market quarter, but is as 45 minute journey on the hotel's shuttle bus (which leaves twice a day, once in the morning and once in the early evening, and costs 5 euros). We knew about the location on booking and decided that it was a reasonable trade off given the great reviews and extensive facilities for kids that the hotel had, and overall we were happy with our decision. We found loads to do on site for seven days, even with an injured six year old. The water park was fantastic, the fairground had rides for kids of all ages, the swimming pools were enormous and immaculately clean and the beach was great. There were a wide variety of water sports on offer and an amiable and enthusiastic entertainment team. Also, at extra cost, a bowling alley, pool tables and arcade machines. The hotel was fully booked when we were there, but none of the outside areas ever felt crowded or overly busy, indeed I was surprised how quite the beach and water park were - no queues for the slides and there were always free sun beds available on the beach.

The main buffet restaurant was very busy at peak times, but not unbearably so and the food was good. As with many of these places, it was aimed primarily at the continental audience (those wanting a full English in the morning will be disappointed, although we found the made to order omelettes a fine substitute). Overall the quality was very good, especially in the side area, where the food was more interesting than in the main circular buffet. 'international night' was insipid, but Turkish night fantastic. The highlight though was the many snack bars that were open at various points throughout the day. The kebabs, flatbreads, pizzas etc that they served were brilliant. The alcohol was free flowing and bar staff friendly, efficient and eager to please. The shows in the evening were of mixed quality - the outside arena was a lovely venue and the big Michael Jackson and magic shows were great - some of the others not so much, although the team were always very enthusiastic.

In sum this was a great hotel, ideal for families with kids looking for a hassle free hotel based holiday. No chance of getting bored there in a week, the facilities were second to none, and the entire place was scrupulously clean, efficient, friendly and professional.

In short, if you are looking for an all inclusive hotel holiday where you do not need to leave the hotel, you could do a lot worse; if you are looking to experience the 'real Turkey', you could do a lot better.

Room Tip: Check out the food in the annex to the main buffe.

This is a very late review since we stayed at this hotel almost a year ago but I felt that this hotel was so good, I needed to write a review.

The hotel was clean and the rooms were of comfortable.

The food was excellent and you could eat non-stop all day if you wanted to.

The service was good and you could see that all the kids loved the pool slides, the mini amusement park and the wave pool.

The only thing I could possibly complain about is the surrounding area which is more or less a building site, but this did not impact on our stay in any way.

Based on our stay last May, if you are thinking of booking this hotel, do it now. You will not regret it. It is one of the few hotels we have stayed in that we would consider going back to even with the few deficiencies.

Just back from a fantastic 2 weeks at Royal Wings. An absolutely brilliant hotel - outstanding, we could not find any faults.

Not wanting to repeat what's been said before, here are a few new tips that others may find helpful.

Learn a few simple Turkish phrases - we were surprised how few people actually bothered to say a simple "thank you" or "good morning" in Turkish. The waiters and bar-staff really appreciated this and were more friendly and helpful in return. Don't be afraid, just ask the waiters and they are more than willing to teach a few new phrases - our children now know the Turkish for "Hi-5"!!!

The main restaurant is fantastic - so much choice and different every day. Go early to avoid the crowds, and sit at the far end past the deserts for a much quieter and relaxing experience. On a warm evening, we sat outside to escape the crowds. Wine is by the glass, but if two of you order the same wine, they usually give you a bottle. The Rose wine was excellent.

Don't miss the Turkish tent near the beach for fantastic Pide (Turkish Pizza) and Gozleme (Turkish flatbread). The Gozlemes were delicious, made by 2 lovely Turkish ladies in a traditional way with yummy cheese/meat or chocolate filling.

The Patisserie was open daily from 4pm to midnight for afternoon tea/coffee and amazing cakes or an after dinner coffee. This was the only place where you could get freshly ground coffee as an alternative to the Nescafe machines.

For tea addicts, Turkish Tea was freely available at most bars and was a perfectly acceptable alternative to British tea. They tend to drink it in glasses without milk, but you can always add a dash.

The cocktail menu listed over 40 different cocktails - all made fresh to order with decent measures, and included children’s and coffee cocktails. Our favourite was the Royal Wings Special (gin & kiwi). They also had daily cocktail specials on the sun terrace outside.

Beer is local Efes brew - if you don't like lager, ask for the "Dark beer" which comes in bottles from under the counter.

The Shore Snack Bar opened while we were there - the food here was excellent BBQ style, the BBQ Steak Tower was our favourite.

There are some friendly cats and kittens around the hotel grounds, often found sun-bathing on the loungers.

The huge swimming pool was rather cold in April, but didn't stop a few hardy souls from swimming. Not a problem for us as we had read the reviews from last April and took some wet-suit tops with us. Also, quite relaxing floating around the pool in an inflatable ring with just bum and toes in the water! The water at the Aquapark seemed slightly warmer so was not a problem.

The beach bar was handy to save a long walk back for drinks - watch out for Mr Hickory Dickory, the Turkish barman with a list of English nursery rhymes in his pocket!

Walk along the beach about a mile in both directions and ogle at the other hotels. We managed to get into the Concorde, Kremlin Palace and Wow Topkapi to nose around. Also the newly opened sister hotel Royal Holiday Palace was easy to get into (they have the same colour towels) - we spent a couple of afternoons in their Aquapark and Funfair (with bumper cars). We even sneaked there for the evening meal one night, which made a nice change as the food was quite different. If you can't walk into a hotel, most do a free tour at 3 or 4pm (e.g. Delphin Palace, Titanic, etc..)

Tipping - there were tip boxes everywhere but no pressure to use them. We weren't sure how these worked, so decided to give tips to specific staff we had made friends with or we felt were doing a good job without being rewarded. Make sure you save some TL or Euro notes for tips at the end of your stay because the hard working staff really deserve and appreciate this.

Pedalos and canoes were free from the "Fora" watersports centre to the right of the beach but not advertised - just go and ask, but only when the sea is calm. They don't seem to mind how far you go or how long for but do provide free life jackets.

The local bus or "Dolmus" is great. Get the 105 or 206A across the road into Antalya (about 50 minutes to stop Dogu Garaji) - costs only about 2TL (£1) each way. From Dogu Garaji, it was only about 5 minutes walk into the centre of Antalya with harbour (boat trips galore), old town and bazaars.

Other Dolmus are 103 or 106 to the Festival (or Volks) Bazaar - a tourist market with masses of fake designer clothes, Turkish souvenirs etc.. Inside the Dolmus there is a TV screen with a satnav driven road map so you can see where you are at all times.

There were organised tours to the market for around 20 euros through the tour rep, but the Dolmus version was much more fun, and to experience local life! If you go to the markets or shops, don't forget to haggle - whatever price they quote, start by halving it!

A Migros Supermarket along the road opposite and just past Delphin Palace.

If you like playing Rummikub you'll be well at home - it seems to be the national sport!

Air conditioning was not working in April - too early in the season. This was not a problem as we slept with the balcony door slightly open for a slight breeze and sound of waves. We didn't see any bugs or biting insects at this time of year.

We had a 100% fantastic top top holiday. Thanks to all the staff at RW, especially our favourite waiter Mileh for teaching us Turkish, and Yasin in the Aquapark for entertaining our boys - you both made our stay so much more memorable and we will never forget you.

We'll be back soon!

My wife and I travelled to Royal Wings the day after our sons wedding,I didnt realise I was so stressed until the second day when I felt all the stress disappear. The check in was very quick and bellboy took our luggage to our room on the first floor,Not the biggest room we have ever stayed in but very nice none the less,We overlooked aquapark and water park at the rear of hotel.
What can I say about the food .........Absolutely beautiful. When one food outlet closed another one opened.Main restaurant although very busy was very good and snack bars were the best I have seen and I`ve stayed in many 5* hotels in the past.
Drink........Was always available and the staff didnt like to see your glass empty,They were so attentive ensuring you always were the top priority,
The weather was not good to us but thats no fault of the hotel.
